What is /g/'s opinion about the google WiFi router. It doesn't split the said for 2.4ghz and 5ghz. There isn't any custom firmware to my knowledge.
I can get a set of 3 for $197 from eBay.
House wifi coverage is fine, but Netflix rates itself at 33mbps. I have 900mbps service. (Can speed test at land at 800-900mbps) So it won't switch to 4k mode at all.
Is this something I should get?

Are you a transexual, minority, or child?

Not at the moment.

Seems legit to me.

So you are a white American male?
Runs /g/entoo, can't be that bad.
Still,
>putting botnet devices in your home
>allowing botnet devices to control all your communications

What you should get is a fucking ethernet cable

Your not going to get positive answers here but I bought the 3pack and it worked well for me.
I had a good single wifi router + 2 access points to extend the network. I hated having to switch between the three APs.
Now I get full signal all over the house, and it never drops as it switchs between each Google AP. Devices will stay on 5ghz primarily, and drop to 2.4 if your far away. It happens without you noticing.
ASUS makes the hardware and its solid. I've been using DDWRT based routers for years, and its nice not playing around with buggy releases of software. The google software works and is updated regularly with new features. IFTTT integration is a nice plus. Since its tied to the cloud I can control the network while away from home, just as I would at home - including rebooting individual APs.
Now all that said the point of mesh is to increase range without dealing with manually connecting to each AP. Its not about getting more speed, then a single router, but 33mpbs is way slower then the speeds I see on netflix off the Google setup. I only have a 100mb service, but the Google kit will max that out. Internal speed tests between APs show I can push around 600 to 800mbps.
If you don't need the range consider a more powerful single router.

Not OP, but does it have static IPs and DMZ?
>>62040912
>hated switching between APs
thats because you had a shit setup
roaming should be seamless if setup properly. you should never have to manually do it
>>62042756
its a meme. youre buying presetup mesh access points. asking does it have a static doesnt make sense. thats between you and your isp.

do you own or rent?
If you own, then make a wiring project for he house. Ethernet in every room. use proper conduit for the main vertical run. Research Plenum cable and make sure you follow local code.
If you really want to jazz it up, run fiber in the main conduit. Some thernet switches for each floor.
You just increased the value and saleability of your house and gained a valuable skill and learned how to comply with building codes. Now start a home ethernet wiring company.
