The lord thy god in heaven hath given me his blessing to lead ye wretched sinners away from the ignorant lies and injustice of these cursed blasphemers so that you need not languish in torment for hearing the foul cacophanies of your heathen 'phones.

I'm here to tell you boys that the way out of the bottle is clear, and that the true path into righteousness and eternal life points to itself. And that truth, o' my blessed brothers, is the Sennheiser HD600. Now go, go and thank the mighty father who sheds the blood of his only son that you might be shown his mercy for gifting thee with such a majestic and awesome way to receive his rapture.

Hello hpg, I am looking for a DAC to power my X2s, could you help me find one?
Budget: $300-350
Location: USA
>Source: The DAC
>Type of Headphone Driven: The Fidelio X2s
I also would like to know if this could drive a microphone as well, as that would be a plus. Or would i drive that through a pre-amp, or other device? Thank you!
>>
>>62040671
>I also would like to know if this could drive a microphone as well
DAC's don't power microphones, phantom power does. You might also be thinking of an ADC. You might also want to look into studies of blind tests done between dacs and then see how you feel.

Your budget is insane high, overkill for X2, and would better afford you new headphones like the HD600.
Anyway, I understand you have no DAC/AMP right now, and I suggest Schiit Fulla 2 ($99).
That's a usb2 DAC+Amp, and it's overkill for the X2 already: Possibly all you're going to ever need.

That's the amp's job.

It's just a massive waste of space and time, and possibly quality if you don't reencode it properly

Only the people who haven't tested enough headphones actually hate a brand, most brands produce both good and bad headphones.

Yeah I'm not seeing the audiophoolery.
>>
>>62042159
Like Schiit, they have cheaper stuff that seems to perform well. However, that doesn't mean they don't cater to audiophools.
>>
>>62042034
I wouldn't call myself a fanboy of the company, but one of the founders of schiit worked for sae, sumo, and created the gas ampzilla. Those 3 companies are extremely anti-snakeoil and those amps are absolutely indestructible. They were one of the few brands that could drive apogee divas (speakers that dropped into 0.25 ohm and never went past 3 ohms) without shitting the bed.

I've also noticed that while schiit offers some products that may not have improved sound quality over baseline offerings, they're pretty explicit when mentioning that it may not make any difference in their descriptions. They're fairly transparent about the circuit designs too.

I'd hardly call them a snake oil company considering their business philosophy and pedigree.
>>
can someone tell me how FR graphs deal with the fact that measurement equipment has its own FR? doesn't this create and endless loop of calibration equipment?
>>
>>62042100
Personally I think amps change sound a bit but DACs hardly make a difference. Maybe a $9000 DAC really does sound different, but who fucking cares.

Just pick up whatever, I think the Modi 2 is a fine DAC. Worry more about your amplifier and headphones.
>>
>>62042170
They sell snake oil. Whether or not they label it as such is a different story.
>>
>>62042126
Who meets your standard? FiiO?

It is factitious to say Lake cater to audiophools when their model descriptions contain no subjective material at all.
>>
>>62042202
"When we say “this is the only headphone amp you may ever need,” we mean it. Magni 2 builds on the performance of Magni, with even more refined sound and versatility, while Magni 2 Uber is now a complete desktop control center with preamp capability and even more power."
>>
>>62042222
Fiio caters to audiophools as well, with their pushing of the balanced meme. Even if they label their snake oil as such, they're still selling snake oil.
>>62042242
They sell snake oil. Even if they label their snake oil as such, they're still selling snake oil.
>>
>>62042242
Exactly. You can't even say their higher end offerings are snake oil, they're just over-engineered (multibit dacs and microprocessor controlled integrated amps).
>>
>But I heard from an anonymous dude on the intarwebs all DACs sound the same! You’re bullshitting us!
>If it’s your experience that all DACs sound the same, that’s cool. There’s a DAC in your iPhone or Android phone, so you can use that one and save some cash.
It's funny because your favorite company disagrees with you.
>>
>>62042260
There's a difference between over engineered and snake oil.
>>
>>62042303
If there is no audible difference, and people are buying it under the pretense that there is, then it is snake oil.
>>62042292
Schiit do this sort of strange acknowledgement that they're selling overpriced shit to gullible retards, but in the end, they still do that.
>>
>>62042303
Yeah, companies you like make overengineered products and companies you don't make snail oil.
>>
>>62042311
Aren't you also under the pretense that literally every amp more expensive than the Magni sounds equal or worse?
>>
>>62042332
Doesn't have to be a Magni. Can be an O2 or something else that measures audibly transparent. Cost has nothing to do with it - measurements do.
>>
>>62039080
Anons would the ATH-M40x be a good set of cans for my phone and laptop both at home and the gym?
>>
>>62042337
You think the O2 is perfectly engineered?
>>
>>62042374
I think it's engineered well enough that the human ear is unable to sense the flaws.
>>
>>62042316
you're totally missing the point.
>Mark Levinson
>Krell
>Benchmark
>Atma-sphere
>Bryson

What do these companies have in common? They create products that objectively perform better than almost anything else but whether that's audible or not is up to question because our ears aren't accurate enough to discern it. That being said, these products aren't snakoil examples because on an engineering level they offer superior performance and reliability.
Snake oil examples:
>audioquest
>Kimber
>Monster cables
>Bybee

These companies are snake oil because they offer products that offer little/no measurable difference compared to standard equivalents and sell them at a premium under the notion that they'll make a huge difference in your setup.
>>

Alright, but in terms of the sheer power of bass, which one is better? I honestly don't care about looks, they just have to be portable, closed-back, emphasis on PORTABLE, and enough bass to sound like you have two subwoofers attached to your head. I don't seem to understand why everyone here loves to pay $1000+ for open back headphones that have the least bass as possible.

Sony's XB series may also be worth looking into. We buy headphones with less bass because most of us aren't melanated to the same extent as you.

You don't need to buy Sennheiser brand. Any adapter will do. When purchasing 1/4" to 3.5mm adapters, ALWAYS purchase ones with this kind of design: https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-MHE-100-5-Right-Angle-Headphone-Adaptor/dp/B000068O6B/

Just posting this for my dt990 bros again. I've found to significantly improve on the headphone. The bass quality improves the most IMO but the treble too. Remember to give it a chance your brain takes a bit to get used to a new sound. This is why you need some time with a new headphone before you really like it.
Also it's important to drive them properly. I've been told I'm wrong so it's just my opinion but whatever. If you think it sounds shitty on your weak amp try a dacx6 they're only $65.

HD600 sound waaaaaay too closed, altho imaging is good, I don't need AKG or HD800 levels but it can be at least DT880 or HD598 levels.
>the more the better! Bring these melanin levels up!
I am not trying to shitpost and I own HD600 myself and like them a lot but that sub bass is non existent. Melanin levels is when you overdo it like on X2, but HD600 has no sub bass extension but instead an insane roll off, it should at least roll off less sharply like on HD800.
>comfort
>akg
>lol.
HD600 cups are too damn small! Smallest of all their open back offerings and it really annoys the shit out of me and some people, HD598 has none of this problem nor it grips hard, same for AKG and it's headband fixates nicely.
>semi balance of neutrality
>No comment.
HD600 has too sharp of a bass rolloff and a bump in upper treble. DESU no headphone is fully neutral but there are some that deviate less. I give that K712 has weird bumps and dips in upper mid range but that's not the same like X2, it deviates but not in a horrible way and seriously if I had to chose other mid-fi pair of headphones it will be them because it's fun but not too much, unlike X2.

>HD600 sound waaaaaay too closed, altho imaging is good
To me it seems just right. It's like sitting on the front row of a concert, rather than all the way back.
It actually didn't bother me at all coming from HD598, which exaggerates soundstage.
Then again, my closed set, the HD380 Pro, sounds a bit narrow to me but alright; I'm not too bothered by the soundstage when using it.
>HD600 cups are too damn small! Smallest of all their open back offerings and it really annoys the shit out of me and some people
Ears fit, without touching, but there's narrow margin. Sometimes it takes some readjusting. HD598 do look the same but somehow manage to seem Just Right.
>HD600 has too sharp of a bass rolloff and a bump in upper treble.
HD600's treble is seriously good, so that's definitely not an issue.
Some bass rolloff is expected on open, dynamic headphones, and HD600 has quite the strong bass considering that. It's flaw would be that it favors upper bass a little too much.
Overall, the HD600 is about the most neutral you can get (if your target is harman) and well-balanced, as to how it does everything well and nothing actually badly. I would say this is precisely why it gets recommended so much.

Are you:
>in a loud environment
>within 3 steps of another person
If neither, then you should be looking at open.

I like my Beyer DT 770 a lot and ATH-M50/40X is a safe recommendation here but if I was thinking about spending ~$300 for home listening I'd lean toward an open set

For some reason I figured open would be a bit louder than 3 steps, but if not then I guess open works as well since I'll just be listening to them in my office at home.

HD600 matches diffuse field more closely than harman. Harman is a preference curve anyways.

Depends on the headphone, HE400i leak a lot more than HD600's. At listening level I can hear the HE400i's from probably 30-40ft. away in a quiet environment.

HD600 are the obvious (highest value/money) choice at your budget, but if for some reason you want to go cheaper, the HD579 (at around half HD600's price) is seriously good.

ATH-R70X. Similar to the HD 600s without its shitty headband. So fucking comfy

Anyone have any suggestions? It seems like the V-moda Crossfire 2 are less bassy than the first model so that seems like the ones to go for, but is there anything else I should look at?

The HD600 is a major upgrade and the 598 sounds shitty to me now, but I keep them around as an alternative set / for nostalgia.

I've had my monoprice desktop amp for a year, and a dual arm gas-spring mount for about 10 months.

Both are doing fine.

Though I agree for things you regularly handle I wouldn't trust it to last more than a year.

The first three might be reachable at $100 on sales or as second hand. The latter will typically be below $100, if you can find it. Unfortunately, it's been replaced by the worse HD559, which you should avoid.

Audio Technica's headphones with this wing system don't stay in place on your head unless your head is enormous. It's an ergonomically poor design.

Sennheiser HD600, obviously. They're literally the most neutral full-sized headphones at any price and they're extremely comfortable, with spacious, soft earpads and customizeable clamp.

Hey guys. I want to buy some used headphones from other country in EU and I offered seller to pay via PayPal so it will be more or less safe for me and him. He answered he will accept payment only via PayPal Friends and Family program but as I understand it means that transaction will be just a gift without any responsibilities from his end. Also he wrote me "People refund-scam through paypal if not paid via family and friends.".
Is he paranoiac or he just wants to get my monies without shipping me the headphones?
