Who here uses a TV tuner for their /tv/ needs? How many hoops did you need to jump through for a working setup?
More importantly, why didn't they take off in the same way graphics cards did, even before people began mass cord-cutting?

>why didn't they take off in the same way graphics cards did
People have a hard enough time plugging the fucking cable box in

I have no need for the poison of the masses.

I'm in weebland and got installed a pair of famous PT3 tuners for my recording use. 8 tuners at the same time, niglets.
>>
I have one that i bought 10+ years ago. I specifically looked for one that supported dtv and it still works. The tuner could be faster but it's not that big of a problem. It also has FM radio tuner that I sometimes use.

One problem with them is that the technologies used to transmit and decode signals varies between countries and even inside those countries. A tv card that is designed for EU terrestrial doesn't work in US or for cable networks in EU.

Even in prebuilt piles of crap which most would buy, why?

2004 - 2010 i use to use a standalone analog only ati tv turner. then in 2010 i upgraded to a hauppauge 1600 digital / hd turner. the ati card worked exceptionally well. especially in linux. worked out of the box when i got it with tvtime. the hauppauge was a little bit more tricky with linux. only played well with mythtv but i didn't really want to use mythtv. so i ended up going back to windows and used it with media center. media center might be as bloat as mythtv, but at least i could use it as a standalone window if i wanted to.

now i don't even care about tv. got rid of cable which is what i had back then and now just stream using hulu and netflix.
