regardless of price, size, or intended use get the hd600 for every situation possible. doesn't matter what your budget is or whether you want something portable. They're the best and every headphone that measures better than them is ear rape treble or nigger bass. Also higher distortion is good. Planar magnetics are a meme even though I've never heard a planar magnetic headphone before, and I haven't heard the hd600 either.

Every anon that doesn't like the hd600s is also plebspotters, and I will look back weeks into archived threads for posts that really don't prove anything but make it look like hes samefagging. DiPolar is the antichrist of /hpg/ and I will repeatedly call him too poor to afford hd600s even though he has a few thousand dollars worth of stereo equipment.

Did I do it right?

Buy 50% off used and sell used. Add $200-300 and you start seeing some REALLY interesting options if you buy them used. HD800, LCD-2, Aeon, TH-X00, EM-U Teak. It'll take some waiting to find a great deal but it's worth it, and if you don't like them you just sell them for the same you bought them.

They are definitely not neutral. They are V-shaped as shit and their defining characteristic is that they kick hard, both in bass and treble. $700 without buying an amp you could look at an HD800 used, but you would want to audition that first. I don't know if you could get away with a magni 2 either on an HD800. Another option would be an Elear for $999 new if you can find it for $700 used. You could get away without a new amp for an elear. LCD-2 is another option but it's kinda meh with your amp
>>
>>62026836
I think my reply got eaten, so I'll just type it again real quick.

The defining characteristic of the TH-X00 is that it kicks hard, both in bass and treble. They are definitely not neutral. For $700 you could try looking at a used HD800, but idk how good they would be on your amp. Same thing goes for an LCD-2... an Elear would probably work but they are $999 new, if you could find them for $700 used then they would be great.

You could always just do the safe bet with a HD600 purchase though

$200 back when they first came out in 2012. They've been my daily drivers ever since. They're built pretty damn well for such a minimal design and keep on truckin' like a true bro. The earpads must be made out of unicorn farts and fairy dust because I've worn them every day for five years and they're still in great shape. Soundstage is amazing. Sound signature is dark but they EQ well.
>>

For some reason I can't bring myself to purchase them for $400 even though I know they'll just keep climbing. The lowest I've seen is like $350. I'd buy them but I don't need them at all, I just know I'd enjoy the hell out of them.

Hey I'm that anon. Surprising to see this post before going to sleep. I watched a few episodes and enjoyed it and I plan to finish it for sure just distracted the last few days. Thanks for the rec.

On topic: I'm starting to understand what people mean by the treble in the 990. I EQ d it as flat as I could and spent some time doing AB tests on my favorite songs. I can hear it when I do but if I leave my eq off for more than an hour I don't notice it anymore. The EQ improves bass dramatically, much more balanced low end. Have posted pics of my settings in a few threads.
Have a good night /hpg/ don't kill each other. We all like headphones.

Yeah I have a few better cans, I just want it for a collectors item and it's completely different from all the other stuff I have. At that point though might as well fork up the extra cash for an HD800.

I've tried an HD800. IMO MA900 is a better candidate for equalization because it's more comfortable. That's not to say the HD800 isn't comfortable. It's absurdly comfortable. The MA900 is simply more absurdly comfortable. There's absolutely nothing like it, feather-light with ginormous earpads.

Those have no bass. MA900 have very surprising bass response considering their completely open, earspeaker-like design. They also EQ to flat, Etymotic-like bass without audible distortion. I surmise that the gaps shown here likely completely remove seal issues from affecting bass response, so if you EQ the bass to flat it'll be flat, regardless if you have a weird head shape which normally causes full-sized headphones to not seal well.

People seem to be so shy about modding, but I'd be willing to bet a similar driver is used in the XB1000, and if you created a similar frame as the MA900 you could get pretty close results. The seal issues are probably what makes the XB1000 have insane bass. So I wonder if the XB1000 morphed out of the MA900? Maybe they were just like "fuck it, some people like bass, let's release this as a closed bass cannon".

People always talk about modding XB1000s but never do it.

>Do you have any experience with the MA300?
Nope. This isn't a great measurement, though. HD579 seem like the natural replacement for you.
>>
>>62027961
they look the same, even that outer ring in the middle. I bet you those giant tire muffs are because they noticed the bass potential of the MA900 driver, so they sealed it in. Otherwise, why would they pick such an odd design? It would probably be pretty easy to just swap the driver on the MA900 to test, and then if it sounds the same design a frame to hold the XB1000. Then you've got a cheap af way to make MA900s
>>
>>62027961
>>62028010
hmm, nevermind actually. I thought the XB1000 were cheapos like the JVC.

As far as I can tell XB1000 are also discontinued and are even more expensive than MA900 right now, but yeah, if you already own an XB1000 it might be a fun modding adventure waiting to happen.

The only other 70mm (besidez the z7) would be a Bluedio Vinyl Plus and you could rip the driver out which is also 70mm, but wireless, and then try to amp it. I wonder how that would sound..

I was always planning on opening my SZ1K and soldering two headphone jacks on it so you could do an active crossover, I never got around to it though.

That's not how you are supposed to do hearing tests. You set volume from low frequencies to be comfortable to listen to and leave it like that all the way until 20k.
Hearing loss is also related to genetics and diseases. I'm 27 and only hear up to 16k with slight tinnitus. I did listen to music pretty loud most of my younger life but I also suppose it may be related to my allergies and life long sneezing.
Or I just lost hearing lottery, who the fuck knows, either way shit sucks and I'm not getting it back.

Yeah, it's good idol trashery brings a lot of seiyuu awareness baggage with it.
These days I know a lot of seiyuu just because of the idols they voice.

Please rec me some in ear earbuds under 100. I don't care about any specifics as long as you tried them and liked them

Trying to counter the unwarranted HD600 recommendations I see.

Say I want a new pair of nice entry level(~$300) headphones. However I buy an IEM instead of an open back over ear headphone.
Say their sound quality(FR) is similar.
What am I sacrificing by buying the IEM?

Sure I could just go with the safe bet of a commonly suggested headphone but the portability of an IEM is pretty appealing. I don't think I would go with ety as I would prefer a multi-driver hybrid IEM.

>also less natural sound in general because all music is mixed for loudspeakers, open over ear headphones are a compromise but inserting the sound directly into your ear canal messes shit up

It's a nice thing to buy. Do I think you could get a good audio quality spending less? Yes for sure. It's not going to be as good as the blue yeti but still better than most.
You should check out the samson go mic. It's what I use and I like it. It goes ontop of your monitor like a webcam.
Web cam mics are also good.

Where should I buy some HD600s from if I'm in the US? I usually look at Massdrop for keyboards/audio gear/knives, but it looks like they've only sold the HD650s.

It's 150$ for yeti on sale right now.
the one you suggest is 80$.
i mean discord and voip in games are going to limit quality, no? if you have $1000 studio mic setup you will still sound the same if the game uses crappy for voice? plus if people on the other end use garbage headphones then they won't hear the difference.
can you post link to yours? there seems to be two versions.

you think it's good compared to headset mic?
>>
>>62038056
Depends on background noise
In a quiet room it's probably better.
If it's a loud room I would get a directional mic

Looking for anc iems because I study in busy environments a lot and I'm don't want to have the hassle of carrying around a pair of cans, and I just happen to own a Sony phone

Are the Sony MDR NC31 any good? Can get them for €/$35

Thanks bud, currently in the process of figuring out if my x compact supports usb audio device class 3.0 (had no idea such a thing existed) which the pistons need since they work over usb c. Gonna buy the pistons if my phone supports it (I literally own exclusively xiaomi iems currently, 3 pairs of pistons 3s btw lol), but don't think so

Not sure yet if I'll get used to a over the ear style for the mee m6 yet, but thanks
