Looking into expanding my storage capabilities (music, movies, series, pictures/photos).
I'm not really looking for a NAS because I only have one computer and sure, I have a 4K TV but I don't want to spend that much money on a NAS.
Any 4 bay enclosure recommendation?
I'm new to RAID and know very little, but I'm thinking three or four 4TB HGST HDDs in RAID 1 or 5?
>/g/ is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site
Just buy a cardboard box and some SATA cables, you can figure it out from there.

Okay I guess.
Do you have an old laptop?

I have a T520 that I never use and haven't even opened up to clean or upgrade.
I was planning on selling it to a friend in India though.
It just werkz
Though I'd suggest sticking to software RAID through your OS instead of whatever embedded shit your drivebox comes with

Model name?
Heard Raid 5 isn't supported though.
Maybe I'll bite the bullet and update to Windows 10 and use Storage Spaces then.

Stay away from enclosures. For the price of an enclosure, you can buy a used Dell Optiplex and put at least 5 drives in it.

Seconding Orico, their boxes are nice (though not super cheap, many cost more than the typical computer case).
Also, use Linux mdadm for establishing the actual RAID5, like most NAS boxes do, it's great. Or Ceph like enterprise storage. Maybe BTRFS or ZFS.
Fuck Windows for this, it's a disaster regardless if proprietary Intel shit RAID or Microsoft RAID or whatever else.

That says $290.
An Orico 5 bay hotswap enclosure isn't super cheap, but it's still less than half at ~$130.

Sounds good until the power supply fails, and you not only lose your hardware, you lose your data because the proprietary method that the enclosure uses to store your data.

I live on Sweden so nah.
Ebay has them, but I really don't want a second desktop build in my room just for a couple of drives.
>>62023103
Yeah no, I'm looking for a small external e closure, not a second big desktop computer just for storage.

So you're used to being cucked
Go ahead and make whatever mistake you want. Some migrant is going to be sleeping in your bed in a year anyway.

Nice one. You sure got me!

> orico is chink shit
They're chink but not shit. Orico makes basically only good devices.
