Is Deepin really a Chinese botnet like some say it is, or not, and it's just another /g/ meme? I'm leaning towards the latter at this point.
I think people have looked at it and found no evidence of it. It's a nice DE, but I've heard the distro itself leaves a lot to be desired.

it is free as in freedom, so if it is botnet - they choose the worst license for that stuff.
I've used the distro myself. Some aspects of the system and support will be in Chinese. So unless you can read and understand Chinese, I don't recommend it.

Honestly, the design is great, but the overall usability and UX is pretty bad, wouldn't recommend it
just use elementary lol

go to bed kevin
Deepin is one of those companies that cares more about their homeland than they do about America. Apparently they sell server and business solutions that occupy a nice niche in China. This means that they make money off businesses, and don't need to sell data. Plus, it's GPL'd, so if something eas fishy it'll been found by now.
If you do plan on using it, I would recommend using the manjaro version. Just keep in mind that a lot of the ricing options you would of had with other distros are harder with Deepin, and that systemd is required for pulseaudio and shit. Also, Deepin hardcodes a lot of their programs, so it'll clash. Oh, and their file manager is shit, use something else.

great design comes with great UX. If UX is bad - the design is also bad.
I would even argue that it's not that good looking. It looks like some kind of cheap Chinese rip-off...oh, wait, it is Chinese!
