Stupid question

I'm using an EVGA 400 PSU to power my rig, the fan is fairly loud all time but I havent seen any problems other than the noise.

Should I upgrade to a psu with higher wattage?
Will my pc survive with the one I'm currently using?

What would you upgrade first here
>>
>>62022056
>no SSD

that's a retardedly cheap upgrade for the performance you'll get.
>>
>>62022068
well if i put a ssd on this,,,do i have to re-install windows on it or what's the purpose ?
or leave my OS on the HDD and install important softwares such as Photoshop on the ssd ????
>>
>>62022107
The biggest benefit an SSD can provide is to your OS.

So yes ideally you would reinstall windows on it.

If you have a USB flash drive with the windows ISO a reinstall takes about 15-25 minutes.
>>
>>62022138
i see....but isn't that effecting the boot ups only ?
im totally fine with it but i believe it when ppl say that it really differs
i will save money first then upgrade more than that and throw this old hdd away

what really concerns me is that i don't know much about hardwares but i tought that i bought something decent with these dual chanel 2x4 gigs now it shows me this 1066MHz and i think that 1066MHz might be too slow ?
because i was about to upgrade to 16GB
>4 x 4 gig
since i use photoshop alot with raw files, no jpgs

and if someone's still reading, lol....
why is my motherboard "shit" according to /g/
that never care to explain why
>>
>>62022246
Your OS does EVERYTHING

yes it speeds up your boot process, but it also speeds up your web browser, file system, etc. Anything that is tied into the OS directly and is installed on the root drive will be sped up.

Bulk storage (movies, pictures, music, word documents, pdfs, larger games, etc) should still be kept on your HDD.

But your most commonly used programs and applications should be on the SSD and you will see significant improvements in basic use. Just general desktop use is heavily helped by an SSD.
>>
>>62022246
1066mhz is the speed before the DDR doubling, the actual speed of your RAM is 2133Mhz, which is normal. You might see 1-2% improvements by getting faster RAM.

And unless you're regularly needing more RAM, you wont see any performance improvements by adding more.
>>
>>62022281
>>62022306
thank you first of all, i seem to understand little bite more !

>>62022306
im editing tons of raw & tiff images on photoshop actually...the convert&save process is not the end of the world...the time is really decent but i tought if i upgrade the performance and speed would increase...

so should i incest in SSD or more Rams in this case ?
>>
>>62022421
Both RAM and an SSD would probably do you a favor.

Photoshop running on an SSD is generally a much smoother experience, and having more RAM is always useful if you're working on large RAW files.

indeed I am. I encode a lot of video and do a lot of video editing overall, so the RAM and core/threads really help.

also nice to be able to encode, watch my anime in 1080p, have 20+ firefox tabs open, and a game of some sort minimized in the background without slow down. Step up over my 6700k. Encoding would lock all 8 threads so much, I couldn't use the PC for anything.

My main rig, and has been for about 6 months since i sold my last one.

Had 2gb, but one of the ram slots suddenly stopped working...
>>
since we have so many triple screen faggots here, is anyone getting random stutters / framedrops (but only periodically) with 3 screens enabled? I have a feeling windows has an issue with 3 screens. Or the issue is the screen above my main screen. Trying to figure out which one it is.
>>
>>62023232
your graphics card could be trying to idle but with triple screen it can't fully idle due to power requirements so it drops clock and then raises again. that's my best guess
>>
>>62023194
nah. Those are old Xeons, still on ddr3. They use more power, pump out more heat, and I'd have to settle with paying stupid money for a used dual socket board which I can only pray isn't broken/breaking in a way I can't see
>>62023206
Why don't you like big monitors? I'm not blind at all, I just like big monitors so long as the resolution doesn't become blurry. 27" is the absolute largest I can go before noticing blur at 1080p. And 32" 1440p kicks ass. You should try it. I'm getting a 32" 4K monitor soon though. Going to replace the 27" 1080p as my multi-use monitor.
>>
>>62023265

it's more about games really, where it shouldn't idle at all
On the desktop there are 0 issues from what I can tell

>>
>>62023284
do you have to look up to read things with a 32inch?
>>
>>62023232
like the other guy said id try disabling your power saving features. Though ive never had any problems like that from triple monitors
>>
>>62023284
>32" 4k

so you're going from 81 pixels per inch to 137 PPI

Enjoy your GUI scaling you dumb faggot.
>>
>>62023006
If you've installed all the updates, yes. There's a long list of updates to avoid that add botnet.
>>
>>62023303
you mean move my eyes up? Of course. Then again, my view distance isn't optimal with this screen. I'm closer than I'd like to be but eh, finding a desk to handle what I want exactly is nigh impossible.
>>62023310
Stay mad friend.
>>
>>62023346
>Stay mad friend.
you'll be pretty mad when you finally upgrade and realize your OS is garbage for anything but native GUI scale. and since you wouldn't be able to read any text at 137PPI without GUI scaling, you'll be having all sorts of fun.

Enjoy.

About a month ago I posted the speccy for a PC I built entirely out of parts from the trash, and someone replied saying I should get a GeForce 8 series or something to make it perfect but I insist on keeping it genuine, meaning only parts from the garbage. A couple days ago I ended up finding a 7300LE in the garbage so I installed it and the system runs like a dream for 2000-2007 gaming now. Only problem was the heatsink fan was completely fucked so I replaced the heatsink altogether and placed the fan from an old amd system under it to keep it cool. Pretty good temperatures, never got above 65ºC. I also have 2.5GBs of RAM, not 3
