Gimmick, or....?
>>62011787
It has already flopped
It's way too much money to what amounts to like 4 hours of fun
Get the Rift for half the price
>>62011787
It's almost a "$299" but not really since Oculus is still a bit cheaper (but motion controllers are separate on Rift).
>>62011787
2.0 drops in a matter of weeks
>>62011787
I still want to buy one, but I don't have the money right now, also I live in Europe where the cheapest price is 899 euros.
Still seems like fun when you have friends.

Sauce?
I have the Vive I'd like to sell it asap.

>you have friends
No one has friends on /g/

i watched a video of the new Valve controllers, and the guy went about a September announcement that was top secret blabla
In a way, I think they are just going to repackage the thing:
include the new strap+headphones
include the new controllers

i found it

Tech that should never had normies/gamurs as target group consumers.
VR is great for science, research and education. Universities/Hospitals/Companies would have been the main consumers.
If the price doesn't drop then yes

I didn't find it to be a gimmick, from a hardware standpoint it is a solid start overall despite being rushed. Software wise there are a few games I boot it up for every once in a blue moon but it will be a while yet until really good titles are released.
The stock head strap was awful it should have shipped with the deluxe audio strap you can tell they rushed it out the door but at least put some afterthought by making it somewhat modular for future upgrades (replaceable head mount and foam face plates and additional USB3.0 port).
The wireless controller wrist straps were garbage that could easily snap as well was surprised that they didn't learn from the Wii, replaced them immediately with Wii straps.
The stock Vive controller is fairly bulky and the tactile grip buttons really suck.
That being said I've tried the deluxe audio strap which was a huge improvement in comfort for me as well as reduced setup time since I don't have to fumble with headphones. I have much better quality headphones but after using it for a while ergonomics becomes more important to me and their sound quality isn't bad.
Knuckles controllers should be a huge improvement over the stock vive wands. And TPcast should make it more comfortable to spin around and sit on a chair without worrying about tangling the cable albeit at the cost of having to recharge more bloody batteries, I hope it comes with a cable to charge and play though that seems pointless since the controllers would run out around the same time and you cannot play with the controllers wired.
I wish HTC managed to figure out how to get the stereo cameras working or partnered with leapmotion to integrate their hand tracking stereo camera into the HMD, that way you could use the HMD plugged into power without the motion controllers until everything is charged again.

>Get the Rift
Ok Zuckerburg
>>62012093
kek, this looks like shit. they're so far away from making this appealing to a large market.
>>62011892
Fuck off kike
>>62012090
I think they are also replacing the lighthouses with a model thats smaller and cheaper to make.
My friend and I have one. Echo Arena is by far the most addictive game for it. (We have Oculus)

How viable is VR if you don't have much space?
>>62012499
some games only require you to stand or sit in a single spot but most need at least 1.5 x 2 meters
2.5x2.5 is ideal
>>62012499
how much space we talking roughly? for most titles with some form of artificial locomotion you should be fine if you have enough space to take one step in any direction from the centre of the playspace.

Motion controllers are not separate on the rift
