well you can (on 14393 i believe) but you got to compromise between updates(and you won't get even the most critical ones) and telemetry

As a person who uses windows & linux (distro depends on the "mood"/hardware compatibility) roughly the same equally, it's not really worth to hard-tweak it

Even if you lightly tweak your telemetry settings, you(my measured case)only give like 1mb a month, but yeah it depends on many factors.

Hard-tweaking your W10 is definitely possible, but you'd have to use 14393/LTSB or another version preferably without anniversary update. Also after installing creator's update i'm like 95% sure you can't fully disable telemetry, it's a worthless update but that's another story.

lets get real for a moment. You install windows 10 in about 45 minutes and for most linuxes its about the same but remember. Biggest base linuxes are about 1 gigabytes or 2 while windows 10 can be more than 5 gigabytes of data. And what happens when you open them. On the linux there are about 2 functional buttons, 3 are nonfunctional and in those two buttons there are some pictures to play with. Maybe slide down or up. On windows though, you feel like a god. Its professional its fast, its all functional. You have a godlike user interface. The thing that the linux does not have. You have those two buttons in the linux, but you still search google for codes to write in terminal. Linux is free because its not worth a penny. Nobody would sell a paper without taking the money. Just not sure why people still buy android while windows phone does 10 times more. Trust me. When you work with windows you know some genius ground breaker dedicated himself to give you an operational os

WSL sucks, every time I run bash it decides to open a handle to some file and refuse to let go of it - I have to stop the lxss service (which can only be done from kernel mode) to be able to delete the file, and then I have to reboot the operating system anyway as trying to run bash afterwards just yields an 0x80070005 error until I do so.

Neat idea, terribly executed.
>>
>>62010984
ebin now i can run all my linux programs that were optimized for the linux kernel on a kernel that isn't linux that takes a full second to fork a process with a terminal that isn't vt100 compliant so escape codes must be converted and programs can't properly read arrow keys, selection and copy pasting is a chore, customizing is painful and the font rendering is atrocious with a fucked up windows manager that doesn't let me tile my fucking windows how i want. all i have to do is download this 4gb install image and spend 30 minutes installing it, 2 reboots, 1 hour of configuration, 1 reboot, and leave it on to update because 90% of the shit on the install image is outdated and hundreds of zero days patches were published while it was installing. then when i can finally boot to desktop, i have to leave it alone for 20 minutes so that disk io finally reach only 90%, the average windows io usage. then I just have to """""disable telemetry""""" and a bunch of services I don't use, reboot again, update, reboot again, then finally can read a guide to know how to install WLS, reboot again. IO now averages 85% so I just need to leave the computer alone for 10 minutes instead of 20 after having logged on, and it boots in only 3 minutes. i can know fully appreciate the power of ubuntu of being unable to interact with the windows subsystem.

>Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Automatic Spying Cannot Be Stopped
On the Home edition.

Here's Microsoft's response to the retard who made a twitter rant after he misconfigured the telemetry policy and claimed that Windows actually ignores the settings.
>Microsoft responded late Monday night with a statement explaining: "Enterprise users are able to configure the necessary settings to achieve zero emissions and we provide guidance and actual script to configure their systems. We don't recommend turning off the settings as it disrupts user experiences and security.
>"We give our customers a number of choices to help manage telemetry settings for an enterprise environment and how to confirm these settings."

And here's a quote from the official documentation:
>You can configure telemetry at the Security level, turn off Windows Defender telemetry and MSRT reporting, and turn off all other connections to Microsoft network endpoints as described in this article to help _prevent Windows from sending any data to Microsoft_.

The point is that it's not cygwin, which was what the post claimed.

>>62016925
Windows doesn't decide to update. It tells you that it needs to reboot and then you reboot whenever you want. Unless you're using the Home edition.

With Windows + WSL I can easily run all applications I care about. With Linux + Wine I can't.
>>
>>62017227
>Can you edit Linux files?
Within Linux? Yes.
From Windows? Yes, but it's going to fuck up the linux permission metadata and break stuff if the application you're editing it completely overwrites the file instead of just writing the contents, which is what many text editors do.
>>
>>62017249
What applications are you running that you can't use Wine for?

See above.

>How does it work with the Windows filesystem?
All drives are available as /mnt/drive_letter

>What about networking? How does the Linux version of netwroking work with Windows?
You mean network file shares or networking in general? It mostly just works. Network shares weren't available until recently.
>>
>>62017385
Sadly no support for FUSE it seems. I would love to be able to use sshfs.
>>
>>62017309
heh, basically wsl completely bypasses the win2k driver which powers windows in general in favour of the linux driver which is basically a driver which translates linux syscalls into NT syscalls not Windows as the NT kernel was designed to be modular and was gonna incluide a *nix subsystem BSD and win2k and some other shit, so yes all networking file access and so on works, and you do basically boot linux in windows, it is not a virtual system and has access to hardware directly, i personally installed Arch linux and it works very well so far also managed to install i3gaps and direct it to a windows version of xorg server though ALSA doesnt work yet and its incredibly slow like extremely slow but MS's goal for now is not performance but full compatibility

It's not the most pleasant experience but it does work.
It's mainly due to applications seeing it as a local drive and then trying to do disk io intensive work with it.
For example a git integration for explorer might make you wait 10 seconds every time you open a folder.

What do you use PhotoShop for?

Are you concerned about your professional work being tied to a single, proprietary medium? Do you own the works you create if you don't own the program? Do you think it's too hard to use other programs, and what does it say about your skill level?

I also use several other programs for which the alternatives are all at least slighty worse. No reason to change what already works.

>Are you concerned about your professional work being tied to a single, proprietary medium?
No.

>Do you own the works you create if you don't own the program?
Don't care.

>Do you think it's too hard to use other programs
It's been a while since I've used other programs for the same purpose but I do believe that there's plenty of things that are easier or more straightforward to do in Photoshop compared to some alternatives.
>and what does it say about your skill level
