If you want help:
>Assemble parts list

>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

Upgrading my pc soon for more extensive gaming (aiming at 60 fps maxed out at 1440p)

Currently running a 970gtx with i5 6600k, 16gb ram 650w psu and the h110m-a mobo. Also want to up my screen resolution from 1920x1080 to 1440p 2560x1440 and was thinking of getting a 1070 from EVGA. Not sure about what exact monitor to get (would prefer if it was under 300 usd though not sure if there are any with gsync or freesync). Another question i had is why dont you recommend i5 as CPU? I got it august last year and it still seems to serve me well

>>
>>62003662
>Why aren't you recommending i5?
Not OP, but since most people don't only play games or use programs that get more out of having higher clock speeds than thread/core count.
Also probably the same reason why it's recommended to get 16gb ram now, since if you want to do anything while playing a game (like having a browser open, or playing music) it won't have as much of an impact on fps as when you have an i5.

Though if you do only play games and consume media, an i5 could be a better option.

I'm not really into 1440p gaming so I don't know much about monitors.
But your cpu will deffinetly not be a bottleneck, I'd say look at some 1440p benchmarks of the 1070 since they generally try to push their system as hard as possible.

If you don't have time for that though, a 1070 is usually said to be the current sweet spot for 1440p.
So you might not hit 60 fps at highest settings all the time, if that's what you're going for or higher than 60fps (like 100hz or 144hz which should be possible I think with your i5) I would recommend the 1080.
>>
>>62001828
If you're so dumb to consider each and every other processor as a good CPU, you should prolly kys.
>>
>>62003740
its okay if you still have it , but an upgrade is reccomended , if you buy it , dont spend more than like 70$~100$ on it , 200$ gets you an R5 1600 wich is pretty much the best chip perf/$ wise to date

Prebuilts will always skimp somewhere. It might seem like you're getting a good deal on the CPU + GPU but what you'll miss is the garbage low speed RAM, unrated fire hazard PSUs, and bad mobos. Plus they can pretty much just throw refurb parts in there and not tell you.

If you just want to run at stock speeds, the Wraith coolers (if included with your particular CPU) are just fine

The ever-popular Hyper 212 EVO is a little bit better, but you'll need to get a mounting adapter from Cooler Master's website; ditto for for a lot of other coolers in that range

Noctua makes an AM4-compatible version of their 120mm single-fan/tower cooler, but then you'll have to pay Noctua prices

I imagine this is a really dumb question, how do I choose which graphic card I buy once I have the gpu model down, there are different brands (msi, asus, strix...).
The most expensive is about 125% the price of the cheapest so it's not like there is no difference to my budget.

The only difference between them will be cooling (usually just the number of fans) and clock speeds (either the base speed or a common OC'd speed). Any major brand will generally be alright, just check reviews as usual.

>>62006195
guaranteed tinnitus
>>
>>62006149
if you have to ask this, the extra juice the different OCs get are probably irrelevant to you, so the only considerations you need to worry about are:
Do you want two fans or three, and will it fit in my case?
Do you like the design?

this is of course assuming you filter out all the shitty literally who brands
>>
>>62006149
the differences are

1050 and 1050ti are the only cards worth it if you have 200 bucks or less to spend. 570/580 are impossible to find and if you do they are vastly overpriced. 1060s can be found for 220 but desu if I was spending that much I'd pay another 40 to get the 6gb version.

Then you got the 560 which is worse than the 1050 and then meme cards like the 1030 and 550.

The used market? Maybe. But at least locally, prices are fucked there too for me. I'd rather buy new at that point.

I think the only question is if the ~15% increase in performance from the 1050 2GB to the 1050ti 4GB is worth the $35-40 price increase.

I'm gonna pickup one soon if the 570 prices don't correct themselves by next month. I prefer AMD GPUs but I can't stand using my integrated graphics anymore.

First, there's this neat little website called pcpartpicker.com that let's you mix and match parts according to your budget. So you can get whatever you want! It also shows you if your selected parts are compatible or not, so you know if you're making a mistake. Once you've got everything in the build, use the url above and post it here!

Until then, don't ask us for help, faggot.

Ordering things at Newegg Canada and my PST fee is exactly 0$. I hear they use UPS as shipper so will they they knock on my door asking for a huge brokage fee? Only two out 9 of my items are shipped from the USA.

Do you plan to overclock a lot? If no, then you don't need a aftermarket CPU cooler. The stock one will do.
Make sure your RAM is on the QVL
Do you need a full tower? It seems like a mid tower will suit your build.
The rest looks fine.

Unless you absolutely want something, you can usually pay a little extra to get it from canada and save on shipping from the US

should i replace the fan on my 212 evo or get a new cooker all together? the fans getting loud as hell
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GBz3TH

I posted yesterday already and made some changes. The PSU is from my old PC.
Are the HDD and SSD a good choice?
I looked at Radeon GPUs and they were really expensive. Is there a comparable Nvidia card or a well priced upgrade that would be worth it?
For RAM I don't think I need 16GB. Is there a better choice for 8GB?
My budget is basically at its limit.
>>
>>62008426
Do you need the H7? Won't stock do just fine? You could use the money you save to buy faster RAM. Make sure it is on the QVL.
>>
>>62008400

UPS brokerage fees only applies if you buy things outside of Canada, so you shouldn't have to worry about getting your ass reamed by it.
>>
>>62008451
Fans get loud for a reason. The fans one the evo are clip on. Unclip them and then clean them and see if they are quieter.
>>
>>62008462
Get the 1060 6GB or just downgrade to the 1050 ti. Getting a 1060 3GB one will just bottleneck your card.
>>
>>62008470
i tried it before, also with the 212 is the bracket transferable to a new fan or is it riveted on?
>>
>>62008451
Slap a Noctua fan on that heat sink and witness the magic
>>
>>62008495
Transferable. In fact if you will have the stuff the 212 came with, it should have another fan bracket in there because the 212 has the option to mount 2 fans (one back and one front).

Let's say you have a car. Fancy sports car. Capable of 120mph easy. But the speed limit is 55mph. Or the tires aren't rated for 120mph. Or the engine has parts in it that will explode if you try to reach max speed because of concessions that allowed you to pay less for the vehicle.

Building a workstation to future proof myself for heavy duty video editing, 3D and graphic design work down the line.

>Ryzen Threadripper 1920X -
(Skimping for now, I'll upgrade the part for something meatier when 7nm is out)
>MSI Gaming Pro Carbon Mobo -
3D printing support means I can make it gaudy as fuck.
Dark Base Pro 900 Case -
SilverStone 1100W Power Supply -

I plan on skimping on RAM, Storage and GPU.
RAM, I was planning on getting 8gb of the cheapest shit I can get and waiting for that plant to be built next year so prices come back down.
Graphics wise, I'll recycle my RX480.

I don't know a lot about storage since I was going to recycle an SSD to cut costs short term. Would it be worth throwing
an NVMe drive in there? Are there benefits to raid 0'ing them?

Anyway here is a good site that has benchmarks for the 1060 3GB and one of the cards they compare it to is 1050ti. So look for the games you normally play and compare.

Why do the Ryzen lines have so little PCIE express lanes?
I was thinking of getting the 1600x but it only has 16. I looked at the 1700x and saw 24. I plan to get a 1080ti along with other PCIE cards like a wireless/bluetooth card but with the 1600x i couldn't use the 1080ti to it's full potential.
Should i go with the 1700x or 7700K?

QVL = Qualified Vendor List. It should be found under support on your motherboard webpage. Ryzen is iffy in RAM selection so some models might not perform as well. It is written in the OP.
>>
>>62008731
"Qualified Vendor List"
basically, it's a list of RAM that AMD guarantees will work with Ryzen because they tested it
This has mostly been a formality with previous processors and architectures (both AMD and Intel), but Ryzen is very particular about what kinds or RAM it works well with for......reasons
It's gotten better since launch with BIOS updates, but you're still best sticking to something on the list

Because of infinity fabric which is RAM dependent.

So what's the plan? Please don't laugh at or mock me, I genuinely want to learn more about computers and how to build stuff. To be honest, I don't care about running the latest games on Super Maximum Ultra Supreme GX Turbo Plus™ levels of graphics, I just want an upgrade to help me run the games I play a little better, and also something that'll ensure I can play Fortnite decently. I'm okay with medium settings, sometimes medium low depending on the game as long as I can get a decent framerate. 60FPS is ideal but I'm okay with 30, I've been playing on toasters for most of my life so I have low standards. At any rate, could you give me the information I need or at the very least steer me in the right direction so I can get what I need?

If you wanted to learn you would have read the OP.

There's a lengthy wiki article covering the selection of parts and then combining them for the final product.
There's also a website where you can mix and match parts until you bang something together and it catches most incompatibility issues.

When you do all that you can post the part list you came up with here and receive feedback.

It will work at the speed listed on the QVL otherwise that is just on the mobo manufacturer to fix.

What's the best GPU for me if I just want a video card for my Ryzen system and maybe league of legends?
>>
Anon from >>62008942 here. So I checked the wiki, went to the pcpartpicker site and my APU wasn't on there. How am I supposed to know what GPUs my toaster is compatible with? Is it possible to install a graphics card and make it take the GPU load off of my APU?

Somebody please respond, I just want to be able to run Fortnite and play with my friend, websites say I meet the minimum requirements but I have a feeling it's a jape. I don't want to end up buying a game I can't run, and I can't afford to build a new PC yet, but I have a feeling that if I get a decent enough GPU I won't have to worry about building, I can just slowly upgrade my toaster into a less toasty toaster that can play my games a little better
