Come on /g/. You have to admit that Vivaldi is a better chromium fork than Brave and supports extensions.
>>
I mainly used vivaldi for the last year, really solid experience, I like the side pop-up thing. Now I'm using ff nightly though, vivaldi got a little slower the last 2 patches or so, and firefox improved speed a lot.
>>
>>61991252
They have quite different development focuses.

Maybe you should start a browser general if you just want to have a space for your pointless flamewars.
>>
>>61991252
can it sort bookmarks in folders alphabetically via right-click?
>>
>>61991328
>/fwg/ - Flamewar General
I support this idea, you're a genius!
DO IT, DO IT!
>>
>>61991252
Opera >Vivaldi > IE6 > Brave
>>
>>61991343
Yes it can and moar...
>>
>>61991252
Both are good alternatives, but overall I still prefer just using ungoogled chromium.

I really did the customization on Vivaldi, though.
>>
>>61991328
So? the focus is different, but that does not change they use the same base, but in execution Vivaldi is the better browser. More features by default and extension support out of the box.
>>
>>61991252
brave isnt a chromium fork, you dumb faggot
>>
>>61991560
>is the better browser
Based on your ill defined metric (for powerusers?), yes. Brave has some bullshit blockchain add revenue mission statetement so if you cared about the browser that was, says, better for the future of the web, then you could argue that brave was the better browser.
I'm surprised we don't see more copy-paste philisophical arguments in the brave shill threads like in the GNU ones actually.
>>
>>61991659
>brave isnt a chromium fork
Brave is based on muon which is based on electron framework which is based on chromium. Do you understand, dumb faggot?
>>
>>61991748
Brave is the better browser on mobile. On desktop is still far away from being that. Vivaldi customizability give it the edge. Extension support is a bonus since you can actually use ublock origin and other great plugins. Brave on the other hand cannot compete with chromium.

WOW look at all these chromium botnets! holy shit everything is a chrome fork now!

kill yourself faggot
>>
Vivaldi is closed source
Brave isnt

Dont be a cucklord, go foss.
>>
>>61991873
Way to ignore the content of the post you replied to.

>>61991902
I see you are getting all defensive because you think this thread is shitting on your chromium and by association your fave browser. That isn't what's happening here. In fact you were the first one to bring up botnets. Congratulations on bringing down the general quality of discussion here.
>>
>>61991902
They are. You proved my point. Those apps are actually running on a browser essentially. Text editor in a browser, a note app in a browser, a chat app in a browser, a torrent app in a browser, an email client in a browser; all running separately. RIP your RAM, faggot.
>>
>>61991902
You reached to reach then reach again.
>Chromium botnets
Chrome is considered botnet, not chromium.
>Everything is chrome
Ever further off.
None of which dispelled "based on chromium".
Is manjaro something different than gnu/linux?
>>
>>61991924
Why? The core engine of both of them is open source (and not much fun to hack on I can assure you). And I trust the devs of vivaldi more than the ones for brave.
>>
>>61991955
>>61991941
>>61991928
thats a lot of fluff text for something very basic: are you saying discord, wordpress, atom, etc. are forks of chromium?

yes or no
>>
>>61991972
I Don't know much about all those, is atom a browser?
Is it built off of a browser core?
is it just a plugin?
Browser built off of a browser core is built off of a browser core.
Plugin for browser is just a plugin that requires the browser core.

>Dev and CEO of Brave is inventor of Java Code and Co-Founder of Firefox

Yeah, guess they dont know how to build a decent browser. How would they?
>>
>>61991994
>MUH BROWSER CORE
yea you exposed yourself. shut the fuck up faggot.
>>
>>61992016
I'm not worried about their technical chops you moron.
>>
>>61991994
>turns discussion comparing two browsers into an ontological debate on what "fork" means.
Maybe you could take it to a new thread?
>>
>>61992027
Sit the fuck down shut the fuck up.
All you've done was attempt to build a straw man because you were ass blasted about being wrong on the internet.
Stop being a whiny cunt and own up to the bullshit you do for once in your life.
IS MANJARO built from linux?
Is brave built from chromium, it's that fucking simple you brainlett.
No amount of diversion will convince anyone of your bullshit.
>>
>>61991955
chromium still phones home to google though
see for yourself and monitor your network
>>
>>61992096
Does vivaldi?
I haven't used chromium in a while.
>>
>>61992115
idk
never used it
>>
>>61992083
original post: brave & vivaldi are chromium forks because they use electron

discord, wordpress, atom, and many others use electron

therefore, they are forks of chromium?

answer: no. now if you want to keep pretending brave is a fork, then you have to prove it uses a "browser core" as you say. go ahead.
>>
>>61992148
>Start with browser, end with browser.
>Start with Browser, end with chat program
Done.
>>
>>61991972
The desktop client use chromium, to be more specific the core. The all run on a browser in a technical level in the desktop. So yes, all these clients are forks of chromium.
>>
>>61992212
wrong. they dont "run on a browser" they use a rendering engine. a browser is a program, not a function.
>>
>>61992241
that came from the code of a browser called chromium.
>>
>>61992241
Say it with me; using a bloated browser engine to make a desktop apps was a bad idea. Electron apps are the same as running separate versions of chromium in the desktop.
>>
>>61991523
not working as expected.

iirc they're looking for someone to help with a Window binary if anyone wants to assist. The current one is half a year old.

>>

>>

Brave still is a chromium fork in the base.
>>

>>
>>61993115
tried using it, but the way it handles bookmarks wasn't to my liking.
>>

>>

Might as well use Chrome instead.

I don't even know what's the idea behind vivaldi ?
"Remember when Opera was the best browser but we change it into a shit chromium fork. Here is an other shity chromium fork so you can cry more"

At least Brave have something like the BraveAds and co.

Any way firefox based browser are the best <3
>>
>>61991924
>open source meme again
Vivaldi is open source. They don't release source for every single version as far as I know, but they release it from time to time for major versions.
https://vivaldi.com/source/

Obviously, you can't contribute to it directly. But you can still download and change it however you like.

If anything's missing, do feel free to point it out.
>>
>3-clause BSD license
Go figure. Why does it still say "proprietary freeware" on Wikipedia and still list the license as "Vivaldi" in Portage?
>>
>>62005762
Why does Wikipedia matter? If anything, it's wrong or outdated. There was a time when Vivaldi started out where they weren't opensourcing their stuff. Now they are, and have been for a while, as you can see.

You're free to go edit the article though. That's how Wikipedia works, surely you know about that too.
>>
>>61991552
I'm using ungoogled chromium but I'm worried the devs' github has been dead for months.
>>
>>62005883
>Why does Wikipedia matter?
Because that's usually the first or second thing people look at when they want information about a subject. It's important that Wikipedia has up-to-date information otherwise people might get misinformation and start shouting it at people who know even less.
>>
>>62006074
Guess what's the first result if you Google or use any other search engine with the keywords "vivaldi open source".
No one cares about Wikipedia, I have no clue why you're making a big deal out of it. Literally no one goes to Wikipedia if they want to find out anything about something.
>>
I dumpped vivaldi because it doesnt clear cache and history on exit. Thats poor security for those that need it. Also no private mode. If they implement those things I'd try it again
>>
>>61992096
People say this but never post proof other then that one time that got quickly resolved
>>
>>62007756
You can clear cache and history yourself. Its super esy now that you can access history in the sidebar. Also you can install some privacy extensions in the chrome web store. There is also incognito mode just like in the regular chromium browser.
>>
>>62005969
Easy, change to Vivaldi. You will not regret it with the number of feats it offers. With some extensiosn you can get more privacy.
>>
Bless Vivaldi! Glorious chromium based master race!
