Anybody have any info on if this HDD can be recovered? I had a pump failure and it got wet in the resulting leak while it was running. I'm assuming the board and connector is fried, but can't I just replace those? All of the rest of the HDD is sealed and should be fine, right?

Yeah. Board's dead, but the main connectors look functional.

Water and electronics don't mix, take a lesson from this.

Any idea where I could go about getting a replacement board? Is it cheaper just to get a new HDD and have somebody just recover the data?

Use the serial numbers on the front to find a new controller. Ebay or directly from supplier's websites. You could even buy the same HDD and use that board to replace it.

You could also get a kit to setup a messy connection to just get your data copied to another storage device if you don't actually need the drive.

You'll have to compare rates on everything and pick what you think is best. I don't know the quotes off-hand, but it's just the above plus labor if you get it done professionally.

If you can find a matching model number and firmware version controller you can just swap it out yourself but there's no guarantee that will work by itself. Depending on how important the data is I would just recommend sending it in to a recovery shop, there's no point taking chances with it and whatever you do.

Do not open the chassis itself up as you can get dust inside with can cause more damage and on top of that if you do send it to a recovery specialist they will charge you more for trying to work on an already opened drive.

I was nevee going to open the chasis, but at a previous job doing server build ups I got used to taking the board off of defective drives for separate recycling and when I saw this I figured it seemed easy enough that I knew somebody would do it.

I figured something like that. I bought a new pcb for it using the number and revision on the back. Some research turned up doing a bios transfer swap for the firmware. Is this necessary to do or is this irrelevant because im getting the same pcb?

Just restore from backups and buy a new one.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
