Crazy idea, but could I set up a Raspberry Pi to stay at home and slowly collect packets and attempt to crack WPA? Or is it just going to take so long it's not worth it?

When you say full access to the stack, you need to realise the layers of the stack are not processed entirely by the nic itself. to have full access to the stack is almost useless. all you need is access to the last layer; encapsulation as data moves down the stack means the packets at the last layer contain everything thast was sent through any other layer.

The thing is that everyone leaves a footprint. If you secure everything and leaves nothing in the open there is a void that sticks up like a sore thumb.

This idea is known for a long time, from electronic sub warfare. Subs were made silent and also sound absorbent. The oceans are however noisy and it was seen that subs could be detected simply by looking for voids in the noise picture.

I've been testing out wifite and aircrack on my Pi. I have a wireless dongle, which seems to be OK with monitor mode etc (nothing complains anyway). But if i use wifite with the aircrack option it never catches a handshake. If i use the cowpatty option it instantly finds a handshake, but the file it writes is 0 bytes in size.

Anyone used it before? Or better to use aircrack directly? What I was hoping for is to be able to set it up so I can plug in the power and leave it running to collect and crack. Maybe I'm expecting too much.
