Crazy idea, but could I set up a Raspberry Pi to stay at home and slowly collect packets and attempt to crack WPA? Or is it just going to take so long it's not worth it?

Researching, the Homehub 4 I'm detecting, unless they've changed the default password, will have a 10-digit hex value (0-9, a - f). This should help me focus my search, but naturally I would need to generate all possible iterations of that, then use that to crack the packets, correct?

Does that save me at all?

I should probably add a caveat in the OP next to that link, expressing that these aren't the opinions of the OP, /g/punk or /g/sec.

Thanks, hopefully I can set up Kali to automatically start capturing once power is applied.

I've just looked, and there are 1,099,511,627,776 possibilities if there are 16 characters and password is 10 length. I get the feeling that that is not going to be done quickly....Just generating myself a password list will take a while.

This might be a fools errand :\

well exactly.I'm guessing a wifi password will have a maximum double repeat (i.e. two repeated characters, so i'll never get 10 as) that should help cut down on the number of passwords. After 5 minutes I had a 8Gb file and the first section was all permutations of 8 or 9 a's.

>>61989037
to update this, looks like crunch is able to limit the repeated characters to any number you like. I limited it to two, but that still generated every password starting:
aabaabaabaa

I guess there's a limit to what you can do though. It's something. I'll just set the pi up to collect handshakes as much as it can.

You'll learn easy stuff, cables, transport protocols, IP addressing, ACK/SYN/FIN/RST/ICMP Packets. Firewalls, switches hubs. If you're good you can learn telecommunication protocols too.

Is closed hardware actually really a threat to the privacy making the software useless against the botnet or is it a meme.
What is the point of using 100% free open source linux if Intel is sending all my data ?
>>
>>61999783
Bruss you just answered your question.
>>
>>62000163
people would know if intel was sending you data to the nsa. they'd have to use your internet connection, and people would see that with wireshark and wonder what it was. they'd either have to send a lot of data so the NSA can tell if you're being a terrorist, or they'd have to do precomputation on the computer's end and send a yes or a no bit, but that precomputation wouldn't be feasible on just a hardware level
>>
>>62000193
>and people would see that with wireshark and wonder what it was.

According to public research, the ME has full access to the memory (without the CPU's knowledge), full access to the TCP/IP stack, can send and receive network packets even if the OS is protected by a firewall. In simple words, no, wireshark would not be able to capture traffic from it.

windows 10 telemetry is hardware? very interesting, i didn't know that
>>
>>62000589
Okay. When you say full access to the stack, you need to realise the layers of the stack are not processed entirely by the nic itself. to have full access to the stack is almost useless. all you need is access to the last layer; encapsulation as data moves down the stack means the packets at the last layer contain everything thast was sent through any other layer.

refer to diagram if i dont make sense. see how it gets bigger and bigger as it goes down? encapsulating the current layer + the previous layers.

the contents of your ram are almost inconsequental and trivial. if it has access to the ram, its not that scary. what is worrying, is access to the cpu registers; memory of the processer itself. it cant get inthere without its knowledge. it just doesnt work like that.

if its punching through your HOST based firewall, then its simply due to a partnership with microsoft to allow it. w10 is so locked down you need to enable ping responses in your fiurewall for fucks sake. its decently protected.

if its a network based firewall, its not punching through. theres no ifs or buts abnout this; if youre running a whitelist, and ME isnt on it, its not leaving the network.

Not really.

The thing is that everyone leaves a footprint. If you secure everything and leaves nothing in the open there is a void that sticks up like a sore thumb.

This idea is known for a long time, from electronic sub warfare. Subs were made silent and also sound absorbent. The oceans are however noisy and it was seen that subs could be detected simply by looking for voids in the noise picture.

It is just the same principle. If it is harmless then make it in the open.

What VPN is not shitty enough to be banned on 4chan? I'm not trying to evade bans but Opera VPN seems to be banned on 4chan.

I live in a country where you pay around 7 USD * 4.48 for 1GB per month. So I'm trying to save as much data quota as I can. Even if it means I have to resort to public WiFi.
>>
I joined #/g/punk to find yet another 4chan IRC channel dominated by leftist KEKS who would rather circlejerk over diversity and delusion in their retarded "safe-space".

When I joined I made the assertion that african countries are shitholes because of the inferior intelligence of people who live there (an assertion backed up by FACT). Of course, I immediatelly received the normal (((leftist))) triggered leftist response about how I'm an asshole. Of course I told them that facts do not care about their feelings, but they proceeded with the ad hominem responses that have come to be expected from this part of the community.

Shortly after this I was banned for saying transgender is a mental illness and that they are too weak and mentally unstable to join the military. I've been listening to a lot of conservative talk shows lately and I really have to say, Ben Shapiro was right, this country is going to shit because of leftism.
>>
>>62008650
it's not a matter of being shitty it's a matter of 4chan banning datacentre ip ranges or in the case of some ips banning self proclaimed proxy services

the shitty ones being ran from a home shop from some business connection are more likely to work
>>
>>62008789
Ah, that makes sense. Sorry, when I say shitty I meant that the ones that many 4chan users were using to evade their bans or something. I used to setup my own OpenVPN on an Amazon EC2 instance. It worked but I doubt that it's secure since I only cared about bypassing some of the restrictions in the apartment that I lived in.

I was once banned for using a proxy/VPN but I didn't even know when was that. I mean I haven't turned one on for a while since I haven't been using my smartphone too much.

I only remember that that day, I was using the hospital's public WiFi to post here. What was the calculation that led to me being banned? Did they know my IP was changing a few times? The WiFi here tend to disconnect the devices after a few mins or randomly. So maybe from my mobile carrier to the hospital's ISP back to back?

I could, but I imagine that could take a long time to generate. Though I guess less time than it would to try and crack the packets.

I've been testing out wifite and aircrack on my Pi. I have a wireless dongle, which seems to be OK with monitor mode etc (nothing complains anyway). But if i use wifite with the aircrack option it never catches a handshake. If i use the cowpatty option it instantly finds a handshake, but the file it writes is 0 bytes in size.

Anyone used it before? Or better to use aircrack directly? What I was hoping for is to be able to set it up so I can plug in the power and leave it running to collect and crack. Maybe I'm expecting too much.

I've so far got to:
(?=.*\d).{5}(?=.*[a-f]).{5}

But that has some corner cases that don't work (e.g. 5 letters followed by 5 numbers doesn't work), but I'm going on the basis that I'll have 5 numbers and 5 letters.

But once I transfer that to the command line with:
crunch 10 10 abcdef0123456789 -d 2 | egrep '(?=.*\d).{5}(?=.*[a-z]).{5}' > pass.txt

I'm getting 0 output. I've tested it with my own:
echo 12345abcde | egrep '(?=.*\d).{5}(?=.*[a-z]).{5}' > test.txt

But test.txt remains empty.

If you want to make money and you aren't thick, they are.

There are plenty of other universities with reputable graduate programs. Some are even better. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Is this bait or are you actually retarded?

Is CCNA Security a meme?
>>
>>62022147
I wasn't the guy you were arguing with, just wanted to know some good programs.
>>
>>62022210
Just search for them on any university ranking. There are good universities outside the frequently mentioned elite schools (some of which aren't even that good for most CS programs compared to places like CMU or Berkeley).
>>
>>62022229
PSYCH I was an anon baiting you all along and now that you've dropped your guard, I consider my psyops successful. Never drop your guard, not even for bobs and vagena.
>>
>>62022249
I've been had.
>>
>>62022073
I am the guy you are arguing with.
First off, you're making the assumption that I was limiting; I wasn't.
However, why not aim high?
Secondly, of course there are other good universities that aren't in the top 10; there are many in London, for instance.
Next time, leave out the supposition and just ask in a civil and educated manner to elucidate upon my post; that is if you are as academic as you purport.
>>
>>62022257
I played you like a fiddle that's been dropped into a tub of warm margarine. Until next time, lainon.
>>
>>62022265
>why not aim high
When did I imply that you shouldn't?
Ivies and Oxbridge aren't even the best universities for graduate CS. I'd much rather go to CMU than Dartmouth.
>top 10
You don't even need to have been to a top 10 university to make money in your field. PhD programs don't really work like that anyway.
You look for the specialization that interests you and the most relevant professors in that specialty, then you make a choice.
Some university that isn't usually ranked in the top 10 might offer one of the best graduate programs in the world for a particular branch of CS.

Anyone else into computer forensics?

People throwing terms round, which is such a huge scope. Got to be more specific anons.
>>
>>62023171
Considering how vast infosec is I thought computer forensics was specific enough lol.

You know, the DFIR stuff.

>When did I imply that you shouldn't?
Then why take umbrage in the first place?
It just seems like you're doing the usual 4chan stereotype of being faux-offended and belligerent about even the most unassuming post or meme.
>Ivies and Oxbridge aren't even the best universities for graduate CS.
That's true, but it'll still look good and a CV and former alumni might favour you.
>You don't even need to have been to a top 10 university to make money in your field.
True again, but that wasn't in contention.
>PhD programs don't really work like that anyway.
This wasn't in contention either.
>You look for the specialization that interests you and the most relevant professors in that specialty, then you make a choice.
True.
>Some university that isn't usually ranked in the top 10 might offer one of the best graduate programs in the world for a particular branch of CS.
That's true, but it'll still likely be a highly ranked institution.

Anyone else feel totally lost and lacking focus when it comes to cyb? I can't decide on what to work on one minute I'm doing black hat python the next I'm deciding to learn C, the next I'm doing wargames I fee like this lack of focus is stalling me... any suggestions on where I should put my energy ?
>>
>>62023663
Get a job in it; you'll stop caring about this off hours
>>
>>62023841
Not a chance, really it just makes it worse because you have to get distracted by more things. Oh you wanted to reverse engineer that firmware you dumped over the weekend? Too bad you have to spend all night studying how to interact with X framework so you can bypass the auth flow in the morning.
>>
Has anyone taken CSA+? What was it like?

>>62024114

No seriously, do what >>62023841 said.

You'll be doing it all day and working with people who are more knowledgeable than you. You're learning will be faster paced.

Do I really need a degree for this shit or just certs?

Going to college would be a big financial burden (not to mention time/attention draining) and I refuse to get cucked by loans. Only other option would be military.
>>
>>62025011
Would also like to know this. Almost done fighting for Israel and want to get into cyber security. I am in comm as the equivalent of a geek squad tech. Should I use the GI bill or just use the rest of my time in for free certs?

How do I make an ftp server on collective computers.org?

Is it really that hard to find out?
>>
>>62025011
>>62025111
IT side likes certs, programming side likes proof of competency (projects).

Colleges have mostly shit programs for cybersec, mostly just learning to use the tools like metasploit. Some have good programs though like RIT. It's like what programming was 5-10 years ago. Show you can do the work (because so many faggots can't) and you'll be in a good position.
