As which minidisc players?

Cassette players look better. The range of interesting designs both from sony and other companies had a huge variety during the era where they were making cassette players. Minidisc players for the most part look similar and have the same form factor.

In general, laptop makers need to stop with the fucking shitty drop hinges. Even Lenovo for some reason went that way. Ports like Ethernet and power MUST be on the rear. I also don't get why the T430 has rear ethernet but the W530, which is a workstation, doesn't.

>>61996442
I don't know if that's the actual name but its when a laptop's hinge is back mounted instead of top mounted. When you open a back mounted hinge, the bottom of the display covers the rear base, making it impossible to put ports there. When you have top mounted and top axis moving hinges, the laptop screen doesn't interfere with the rear, meaning you can put ports on the back. Top mounted hinges are also a lot nicer when opening the laptop due to the axis.

pic 1/2, superior, more logical hinge placement, crucially too, allowing for batteries to extend out of the rear

pic 2/2

Shitty fucking style choice on business laptops with no upsides and only drawbacks. No ports on the rear possible and no rear extending batteries. Lenovo now does this to all their professional machines minus the 2 models in the P series.

Hm, you're not kidding. So what do you do if you want a bigger battery?

I suppose this style of hinge allows for more room within the screen casing. Except Lenovo still have this enormous bezel instead of putting a 16:10 screen in the space for some reason.
>>
>>61997043
With the modern ThinkPads I think, just think but not bothered to research, that the battery is bottom extending, meaning it props up the back of your machine putting it at an angle like pic related. Before, you had the option to do this too as you can see, this is a W530 with a top mounted hinge and this was a battery larger than the rear extending 9-cell. Modern ThinkPads though only have this downward extending option. Its pretty shit because a lot of seating positions are best with the laptop being minimally tilted.

>I suppose this style of hinge allows for more room within the screen casing

It doesn't really make any difference there, as you say modern ThinkPads still have inches of bezel top and bottom. This is neccesary though because the screen needs to line up with the rest of the machine when closed obviously. However, they could just put in a 16:10 display to cut down on some of the useless fucking dead space. I have no idea why a business machine is 16:9. The X260 you posted could easily house a 16:10 display but no other company than Apple seems to put in that ratio display in a laptop.
>>
>>61997156
Just to add, I just noticed that this machine has BOTH the 9-cell and the bottom one which is huge. Gives a total battery life of around close to 20 hours if you're conservative. The new ones just can't do this. Even the P series because their main battery is on the front left,

I've opened up the screen on my X260 before. The top is taken by antennas and cam+mic, the sides by antennas, hinge and plastic tabs and bottom by the hinge and the panel itself. There actually isn't that much space left.

>>
>>61998104
The webcam board is actually pretty large.
I guess they just didn't bother to make it smaller, but still, there isn't any free space left inside. I wonder how thin bezels laptops are made.
>>
>>61998193
That board can be shrunken down 10x the current size to be not much bigger than the camera module itself. That X60 I posted came out in 2006. Its been more than 10 years and for some reason bezels have gone backwards instead of at least staying the same.
>>
>>61998170
Not as aesthetic as n95. I mean look at that thin bezel on 95.

Idk but for some reason there really isn't much space left inside. You can look up teardown videos, the sides are pretty packed. The top could be better though.

>>
>>61999687
>>61997002
Since the hinge mechanism is dropped inside the case they can make it beefier than in the old design. I agree that this reduces space for potential ports and extensions but there are easy ways to remedy this by putting more universal ports on the side (needing to have a ethernet port on the back is autism), also the "slice" style of extended batteries is more convenient and esthetically pleasing.
