I think after all the reviews and guides on how to mod them, I'm really liking what I'm hearing about the m1060 rev2 headphones. Just ordered a pair that should arrive next week. Going to do a follow-up post with my impressions before and after I mod them. Ordering some Ori pads from ZMF because I prefer lambskin to pleather but other than that, these are looking like my gateway into mid-fi purgatory hell for the foreseeable future.

Well, it's a relatively unknown model. I don't think I've seen measurements for it. Speculation says it sounds the same as MSR7 but who knows for sure. Also I think it has some strange fuckery with the built in DAC which means you have to plug it in to USB instead of regular analog.

headphones that are very difficult for anyone looking at you to notice they're there. sound quality isnt as important

id like them rather cheap
>>
>>61975453
>>61976515
In case it isn't obvious from reading the link, you'd want to use file menu => Import Frequency Response to import the frequency response of the DT880, set the house curve as the frequency response of the HD600 then automatically EQ to the house curve.
>>
>>61975453
>>61976515
Also, this will provide a rough simulation, but probably not a perfectly accurate simulation, since this technique cannot simulate how a different headphone would interact, resonance wise, with your unique ears.

Honestly not for this pair. Users said they had less of the harsh treble beyers are famous for, and the lows are pronounced (but not as strong as I would usually like for some EDM). This convinced me to pick them up over the older model.

Hearing is largely subjective and dependent on one's ear, though.

You can only really go by what you hear when you listen to a headphone. A graph isn't a tell-all for one's experience.

Not too much more expensive is relative, really. If HD600 is too much then I agree with the HD579, although it's a very minor upgrade; it's basically an HD598 with better bass extension.

>>
>>61977519
>I bought an amp for my 598 and it broke in less than a fucking week.
Magni2 -> great amp, no dac.
DAC-X6 -> good dac and amp, but high impedance output disqualifies it for <100ohm. Good for HD600, but not flexible enough for other headphones.
Fulla2 -> great dac, decent amp, but at the higher volume it will distort (not enough power) with the HD600. A popular upgrade path is to throw a Magni2 in.
>>61977443
Incidentally, your two replies are both to me. Pointless hate is pointless.
>>
>>61977443
Idol music is super loud and compressed though, isn't it? I love me some idols (though mostly for the cute girl aspect) but when it comes to comparing sound between lo-fi and hi-fi setups, I feel like idol music's improvements are quite modest. Meanwhile I've got classical recordings where I can max out my Vali 2 and not be uncomfortable. I doubt there are many recordings where my amp would be insufficient but I could imagine unamped HD 600 being insufficient for some listeners.

>>61977519
You fucked up. I also am an anime poster. Go to hell. Nah I got nothing. You don't NEED to spend more than $100 on an amp unless you're bored and want shit to play around with. For $99 I think the Schiit Fulla 2 is cool, I demo'd it and upgraded to chase after meme audiophile gains. I definitely think it's adequate but don't take my word for it, research on your own and see what you think
>>

>idol music compressed
Depends on which. Without replaygain, idolm@ster and love live stay at around -20dB in the spectrum visualization of foobar2k, with
peaks at around -10dB. Pretty decently mastered; they know their shit.
>max my vali2 with classical
Sure, classical tends to have crazy wide dynamic range, so you'll need your gain high.
>unamped HD600 insufficient
Its lower-than-most sensitivity should make volume relatively lower, and actually helps it not suck due to source not providing enough power. The gain (and of course the power for it not to distort at a higher volume) of an amp is definitely desirable for music with great DR.

7.1 headphones are a scam. Best results doing virtual surround on software. Get real headphones, ideally open. I suggest HD600, HD579, HD558 or SHP9500S, depending on what your budget allows. Get a separate mic, as for some reason the value per price of headphones that include one tends to be way lower.
>>61983345
Ground loop. Best to use a digital out (eg: optical or coax spdif) from the TV rather than analog. Curiosity: Why are you connecting your tv line out to computer?

Unnecessary conversion, anon. Adds latency and degrades quality.
Try to get a digital out from your tv, rather than analog. Or connect TV to usb dac+amp line in" if it has one (eg: a fulla 2's) to bypass the dac.

I've been thinking about going digital instead, but I don't know if the digital output of my motherboard
can work as a line in also.

I tried connecting the TV analog to the dac directly though a line out on the back and making it take
input instead. It works, but the signal does not go through the amp, so the audio is very low and muffled.
>>

>>

MA900 is comfier, but discontinued and harder to get. Price has gone up to $300+, with a few good deals periodically. It has a very warm sound, so almost the opposite of the 880.

>noise from a frontal loudspeaker
>frontal
The key word here is frontal. The sound of a frontal loudspeaker is not relevant here. See: http://hauptmikrofon.de/theile/1986-3_Standardization-of-studio-headphones_JAES-1986.pdf
>A study of recent work on the properties of spatial hearing shows that the free-field equalization applied to headphones cannot produce good results. A more satisfactory equalization is obtained by reference to the diffuse field...
Headphones do not present spectral properties similar to that of frontal speakers.
Free-field (frontal) equalization in headphones produces linear distortions referred to in the above study as "tone color defects." Therefore, HD600's accuracy relative to frontal speakers is completely irrelevant in terms of its perceived neutrality.

Well designed dacs sound the same, regardless of whether they're Delta signature, fpga or multibit.

I give credit to schiit for offering great products as a whole but the multibit thing is a meme.

As someone who is regularly exposed to top of the line chord fpga dacs and overbuilt Delta sigma equivalents I have never heard a difference between both of those and a properly line out from a TV. Seriously.

"Many of the scams I've described do have a factual basic in science, but the effects are so infinitesimal that they can't possibly make audible differences. I often see "believers" proclaim that science has not yet found a way to measure what they are convinced they can hear. In truth, it's quite the other way around. We can easily measure jitter that's 120 dB below the music, which is a typical amount and is about 1,000 times softer than could be audible. Likewise for distortion, frequency response, and noise, especially when you factor in the ear's susceptibility to masking. Many audiophiles truly believe they hear a change in quality, even when none can possibly exist."

"Like the Emperor's New Clothes, many people let themselves be conned into believing that a higher truth exists, even if they cannot hear it. There is no disputing that hearing can be improved with practice and that you can learn to recognize detail, but that's not the same as imagining something that doesn't exist at all. And, logically speaking, just because a large number of people believe something does not alone make it true."
>>
The bottom-line is this:

Multibit isn't inherently better, it just uses a different method of processing the signal. It shouldn't cost more than delta-sigma converters. It should cost the same, but it doesn't currently. Until it drops in price (which it probably never will) it's not worth it.

The only exception to this general rule I can imagine would be someone planning to purchase an NFB-11 from audio-gd. Instead of paying 350$ + international shipping and another 35$ tax, you could just order a modi multibit with a magni 2 for 350 and achieve an equally good setup without the shipping or taxes, and you'd be buying American, and you can return/replace/exchange your products for other ones easily because Schiit has decent support for US customers.

However, if you were to argue to just go with the basic magni/modi schiit stack in place of the multibit then I would disagree, because the basic schiit stack IS measurably inferior to the NFB-11 sabreDAC from audio-gd, as most 'nons in /hpg/ and elsewhere will attest. So the real question is, is it measurably better, or merely equal to, the multibit schiit stack? Because if it's the same, then one should just go with Schiit.

Guys they're $37, come on. That's walmart earbud prices. Although looking at the FR on the superlux I would probably suggest those over the philips. They look insane for the price.

Can someone link me to a list of like $100-$300 IEMs to consider? I don't like the innerifelity list.

Is there any cheaper alternative to the Bose QC 35 that sounds as good? I literally tried all the overear headphones they had at my local store and nothing sounded as good with my phone. I'm only gonna use the phone, no amp.

Yamaha eph-20, assuming you don't mind a lack of mobile controls. They provide adequate bass to my ear but your perception may vary.

They're great headphones man, they are the definitive commute/flying headphone and their sound is not bad at all.
I would suggest IEMs if they're an option. Plenty of great $80-150 IEMs that will give probably better isolation and comparable sound.
I just suggested a close friend of mine the Simgot EN700 because they're gorgeous and I felt the sound was one that is easy to like from reviews. I use the Sony XBA-H1 on my commute(public bus) and they're awesome too.
As far as direct competitors to the QC35 there are many but they are all priced the same. Sony https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CQXGM5K?aaxitk=6ZcvFVMdgxMiiOqizBuu7w
Sennheiser

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PXC-550-Wireless-Cancelling/dp/B01E3XLNA0

Also take a look at the ATH-MSR7NC and this headphone(it has good reviews)

Good luck

Random reminder all headphones are the same after EQ.
Just grab a couple pcspeakers from old pc towers, stick them together with a makeshift headband, a little EQ and it's gonna sound just like an LCD-2, if not better.

It's more expensive than the delta-signma variants of the SAME DAC.

Bose has the best NC out there. Only thing close is Sony MDR-1000X.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look into those and see if I can test them somewhere. I was really close to just buying the QC35 the other day because I really liked their sound.

QC35 is the best NC you will get. Sennheiser NC is not as good.
>>
>>61987503
>than the delta-signma variants of the SAME DAC.
The other modis are not the same dac, they're totally different, that's the point. Only the case is the same.
But there's literally a shitload of DACs out there that are delta sigma and cost more than a modi multibit.
>>
>>61987603
WTF?
Look into mdr-7506 and mdr-cd900st if you really want a sony.

The 7502 is gobshite.

Get an Oppo PM3 if you can afford it. An NAD HP50 if you can bear the ugly headband design. AKG K545 is also good.
