I'm trying to use my laptop monitor and keyboard for gamming using the power of my actual rig.
Furthest I've gotten is steam/NVidia in house game streaming.
looking for low latency and good performance.
Thanks m8s.

That's it. You're there.
Now just improve your home network.

Could I do something with an Ethernet cable?
I'm not understanding. Why you wouldn't just move the games to the desktop HDD, or an external?

as in direct connection between laptop and rig

I use my laptop as my main PC, cuz I have to move a lot.
Also my laptop monitor and kb is better

You'll still need the software to pass the game one way and the inputs back the other. What you can do with ethernet cables is keep the computers connected to the LAN by cable instead of WiFi. Beyond that it's up to the settings in the game streaming software.

Oh, you mean taking the network part of this out of the equation. I have no idea how that will work. You need to get or make a crossover cable. Then on each computer you have to manually assign two different local IPs (like 192.168.whatever.whatever) on the same subnet (255.255.255.0 works). They should then recognize each other as being on a network.
I have NO CLUE whether streaming software will accept this network.

Just get a switch.
