NGU-AA is not optimized for any specific kind of content, so it might not look as good with this one very specific type of content, but it looks quite nice with all sorts of content. I've seen some RAVU images which seem to suggest that RAVU has rather high ringing artifacts with "normal" content. So I'm not convinced yet that RAVU is overall a competitor to NGU-AA and NNEDI3. But we'll see. I'm not opposed to add RAVU to madVR (if the license allows it), provided it provides true value. Right now I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to create an NGU variant which is optimized for the same type of content RAVU was optimized for, to make it a fair comparison.

lol, sounds like he was thrown off by the fact that NGU-AA pixel shifts to the top left :^) (RAVU introduces no shift)

Now, since I'm using winblows because muh gaymez, I'm kinda confused about the windows installation. There are three different options (I think) and I have no idea what to do with either of them.

TL;DR - How to install MPV on Windows 10?
>>

>>

you should use the github one and extract in a folder, that's literally it

I just use shinchiro's builds. I dont install them or anything. Copy folder to program files (give it permissions to modify folder, or copy to any other folder), right click video - chose mpv as default program. Done.

nobody forces the mpv devs, including bjin, to release their code under lgpl. if they do, they're practically asking for their code to be used by other devs, including closed source devs. that's what they seemingly *want*. so there's no reason for anybody to be angry with madshi, in case he decides to use ravu.

if you want devs who use mpv to also be forced to open their own source code, then you don't use lgpl, but gpl. but mpv recently switched from gpl to lgpl, so obviously they're more than fine with closed source devs using their code. so who're you to object then?

this is a tutorial for creating optimized custom resolutions. i'm not even sure if this is possible in linux at all? this kind of stuff is highly complicated. normal users didn't ever do this kind of stuff before. the new madvr version seems to make it much easier than it was before, so finally normal users can try their luck with it, too.

actually, i believe mpv windows users will be able to create custom resolutions in madvr and they should work with mpv, too! :) so basically all the work madshi did isn't limited to madvr, but could also benefit users of other media players. windows, only, though.

so which part of the lgpl did i not understand? please enlighten me! thanks...

1. Try out the other opengl-backends (try opengl-backend=win first, if that doesn't work try opengl-backend=dxinterop)

They also went overboard on the anti-aliasing, only have PGS subs, and didn't encode the 60fps endings in 60fps. But no doubt they're in the top two.
>>
>>61959813
A quick rundown:
- Ordered chapters are more powerful
- Ordered chapters have well-defined smenatics
- Ordered chapters are in widespread use
- Ordered chapters are supported in all major video players
- Linked files are more limited
- Linked files require the video player to scan all other files in the same directory (slow!)
- Linked files are buggy and/or not well implemented (you can easily get the MPC-HC demuxer to crash using them, btw)
- Linked files are used by absolutely nobody except kuchikirukia, who only uses them so he can troll the mpv bug tracker
>>

Seriously I am a foss addict but recent refactoring made mpv unstable. Interpolation is still problematic after so many years, it works on madVR since day one. I kinda hate the "let madVR decide" first approach of madVR but it is rock solid on my system. And since youtube-dl works with mpc-hc, I will not use mpv until a stable ra and vulkan or d3d renderer.

Even Windows 7 with the platform update should have a working Direct3D 11.1 runtime. ANGLE requires 9_3 for dumb mode (GLES 2.0,) 10_1 for non-dumb mode (GLES 3.0,) and 11_0 for full support.

>>61962875
If you have to use angle-flip=no to prevent BSoDs or crashes when you switch to fullscreen mode, it's a known AMD driver bug that they will probably never fix for legacy cards. If you are on Windows 10, you should check whether the Movies & TV app works in fullscreen mode. If it crashes too, it's a driver bug. If it works, it's an mpv bug.

Oversample and linear tscale produce >0.5 in vsync jitter and produce dropped frames. Default one produce <0.1 vsync jitter and works but I prefer oversample/smoothmotion. I thought oversample was faster but it seems it doesn't on my switchable laptop.

my nvidia gpu rejects all possible options
>>
>>61963432
there are 2 different numbers:

1) the refresh rate listed by windows itself when you try to switch refresh rates via display control panel.

2) the actual refresh rate which calculates from pixel clock etc.

e.g. you have 23 for 1) and 23.976 for 2). or you have 59 for 1) and 59.940 for 2). in the same way you should be able to create 47 for 1) and 47.952 for 2), using the madvr custom mode tool.

i don't know why windows lists "23" instead of "23.976". doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's just the way it is. so the right mode for you would be "47", because that should be 47.952, while when you create a "48" mode, you'll probably start out with 48.000hz.
>>
>>61963691
Don't use recommended option!
>>
>>61963570
cool! but does it run 23p/24p content smoothly? many computer monitors always run at 60hz internally, even if you feed them 72hz. you need to double check that you get smooth playback at 72hz, e.g. using a 24p movie with a smooth camera pan.
>>
>>61963570
Did you have to reboot?
I tested three times but with gpu reset only.
>>
>>61963713
I tried all the options not just the recommended and they all are failed because my gpu rejects all of them for some unknown reasons.

Grab one of those files, you can change the FPS to anything you want with `--fps 48 --no-correct-pts`. I recommend also combining it with `--no-config` and perhaps `--video-sync=display-vdrop`.

Well, seems like there is a problem with madvr's customres utility because I made a 48hz profile with nvidia control panel with no problem.

What the actual fuck? Windows users have to reboot to add a new resolution?!

Meanwhile on linux you just run “xrandr --mode <whatever you want>”. There's even an mpv script to do it for you :^)
>>
>>61963876
I am wondering this too.

>I'm not opposed to add RAVU to madVR (if the license allows it)
Is it possible to license RAVU in a "may be used with everything except madshi software, lmao" license.
>>
>>61964528
In your pic for example, you're playing a 23.976 Hz file on a 72.000 Hz monitor so you'll get one duplicate frame every ~40 seconds. DS would allow mpv to speed the video up by 0.1% to eliminate this.
>>
>>61953294
Use linux.
>>
>>61964531
It's a bit too late for that, RAVU is already licensed under the LGPLv3. So even if you make the license more restrictive now, madshi could still use it under the terms of the LGPLv3. You can't “revoke” a free software license.
>>
>>61964539
Wait, i dont follow. What kind of sync do i need now?
>>
So, I updated a bunch of my shit (linux rolling release) including mpv (from git) and now mpv isn't stopping the display from powering down after a certain amount of time.

In other words:
>play movie
>15 minutes in, screen turns off with movie still playing
>have to wave mouse around to wake it up again
>repeat every 15 minutes

Is anyone else getting this with the current mpv? Is something else on my system broken? Any ideas for where to begin diagnosing this?

video-sync=display-resample

DS as in

I give mpv to normies now since it just werks. They don't have to fiddle with any settings or understand how it works.
