Why does 16:9 video even exist when we have superior 4:3?

Side to side feels easier though. There's also curved monitors which bring the sides closer to you. At work I have two monitors side by side and I use them easily, but if one of them would be on top of the other it would be weird and uncomfortable.

I find it interesting that most UIs for productivity purposes work just as well or even better with 4:3 presentation. I like 16:9 but it's best for games and media consumption.
