When sending rockets and satellites becomes cheap enough, will we have a competing interconnected computer network to today's internet? What have we learned so far?
The first problem was giving too much power to DNS registrars.
We already have satellite internet and it's slow as balls. The latency kills it because physics.

the new network wouldn't be for watching netflix, but text.
what goes on here?
>>61936712
all i can think of is the svalbard seed vault
>>61936712
hitler's secret second bunker
>>61936160
Why don't we use lasers instead of radio?
>>61936712
rogue nazi state with nukes
>>61936842
Why don't we use <wave> instead of <wave> but first one is overall worse for our application
>>61936842
radio is radial, light is point to point. it's pretty hard to aim a laser correctly.
>>61936857
>Why don't we use <wave> instead of <wave>
Woah you're so smart dude :')
>but first one is overall worse for our application
How so?
>>61936862
>it's pretty hard to aim a laser correctly.
No it isn't.
They can successfully point a laser at a small reflector on the moon, for example.
>>61936877
>clouds
also wont help with latency
>>61936842
Radio waves move at light speed and so do lasers you fucking retard.
>>61936906
now find a way to make lasers dodge space dust
iirc radio waves move at lightspeed anyway
>>61936922
Lasers are faster by nature. That's why one is a wave and the other is a straight line.
It's the same reason DC is faster than AC.
What happened to stupid ideas like using balloons or drones to provide cheap internet to remote locations?
Did everyone figure out how stupid it was?
>>61936712
There's a spaceport up there. Been up there launching sounding rockets once. Fucking colder than death.
>>61936934
Where do you think the moon is if not in space?
>>61936960
>What happened to stupid ideas like using balloons or drones to provide cheap internet to remote locations?
They're still going, apparently.
>>61936922
Oh yeah I forgot
Then why don't we just use terrestrial radio internet in place of satellite internet?
>>61936953
>DC is faster than AC.
I thought it was the other way around?
Or is that because AC generally uses higher voltages?
>>61936953
>both travel at the speed of light
>speed of light is fastest known speed
>E=MC squared
>"b-but lazerz r teh fastestest!!"
What did he mean by this post?

Flat earther's btfo.

Curvature of the earth.
Besides, you get a much better signal through glass fiber than through air.
>>61937014
Not the laser guy but
>speed of light is always the same
Is equally retarded.
>>61937084
In this context it might as well be. The atmosphere doesn't slow it down enough to matter.

>Greenland
>>61936160
New large-scale satellite internet plans call for very low orbits which will generally have lower latency than terrestrial connections.
>>61937516
Greenland has a smaller capacity link than Svalbard
Note to self: move to Svalbard
>>61936117
We need some kind of low orbit system to keep the latency down. That is the problem with satellite at the moment.
>>61936712
Science. It's Svalbard.
>>61937069
The earth doesn't curve, silly
>>61936960
Why's it stupid? I want free internet
>>61937010
I don't know what the fuck he's talking about but AC is used for transfering voltages over longer distances with less loss. That's its primary use. It has nothing to do with speed as far as I know.
