What's the easiest way to remove "#43" from all folder names recursively in a folder? the 43 can be any number
>>

I am using 2 monitors, one tv and one computer monitor.

my computer monitor is connected hdmi to hdmi and works great

my tv is connected display port to hdmi.

I can get video but I get no sound.

If i connect display port to hdmi to my monitor I get no video and no sound.

When I go into my sound playback I can see my monitor when connected via hdmi. but my TV does not come up through the display port

It says nothing is plugged in for any of my display ports.

How do I get sound, I updated my graphics card drivers but i can't get the display ports to work.

Also not quite as important but the display on my tv won't pick up unless I have my tv on first. When I had my old computer I could turn my computer on and turn on the tv when I needed it as a second monitor. (this was hdmi to hdmi though)

I'm assuming I need drivers but I can't find any and I updated my graphics card drivers but nothing is working.

im not familiar with your specific distro, and the DE doesnt matter this is mostly a kernel thing. ill give you kind of a generic walkthru, should work on most distros

first, identify the module name for the hardware device using
lspci -k
or lsmod

find the module name for your bluetooth device.

next, you need to blacklist the device in your kernel.

find a file named /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist or /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf or something similar. this should be in your modprobe.d directory.

add an entry to the file like this:
blacklist mod_name

and reboot.

you can also
rmmod module_name

to delete it permanently

if that doesnt work i suggest googling it for your distro

How do you remove a kernel driver with DevCon in x64 Win10? I've tried using PnPutil, and it lets me delete OEMs, but doesn't remove the kernel driver from the driver list. I can confirm this if I perform a driver query in CMD.

According to Speccy my SSD runs at 50C/122F

Pretty sure this shouldn't be happening but how damaging could it actually be?

I have the SSD in this little pocket almost on the outside of the main inside of the case where there's no fiddling to try and plug stuff in and it is very easy access, but then this obviously doesn't get much airflow so I could move it to a tray if this is bad for it?

Pic related kinda shows where the SSD is, it is kinda hard to explain in both words and pictures

Talked to a Dell rep, said the laptop has an empty slot for another harddrive, but didnt tell me it was an M.2 slot, only for SSD's, which a TB would be like $300.

Can anyone here recommend a good/cheaper maybe 500gb M.2 SSD?

Or, would it be possible to download and run steam games from a USB3.0 external harddrive well enough? So I could then put the bulk of my games on that and the more intensive stuff like FO4, etc, on the machine's SSD? Thanks for any help

How do I make my GPU shut the fuck up? It's got a passive mode and when I set it to kick in around 65C, when playing light games it constantly ramps up and down like a fucking retard from 0% to 25%, even with a relatively high hysteresis. It normally wouldn't bother me, but it doesn't have any smoothing on the ramp, so when it goes from 0% to 25% it sounds like a plane taking off for a split second, then is silent again.

If I set a stupidly high hysteresis of like 10C, it means when I'm playing an intensive game it will get to its highest fan speed then never ever shut the fuck up. If I set it to come out of passive mode at a lower temperature, it does the same thing when idling at the desktop. I can't win.

Is there any way with Afterburner to have the hysteresis be different at different points in the graph? Or do I need to just disable the passive mode completely?

WiFi is not the internet. WiFi is how you talk to your internet connection.

Think of the internet like a bunch of people in a country club who can talk to each other. Membership is limited and expensive so you can't get in. But you can pay someone who is in that country club and he'll pass your messages along. He's your internet service provider. Now how do you talk to him? Well you have to call him on his phone. Maybe your phone is a house phone with a wire. (Wired connection between computer and internet provider.) Maybe your phone is a cell phone. (WiFi connection).

I find it easiest to learn on a case-by-case basis. If i come across a new issue, I spend time looking up online how to do it through the terminal first, and then if that's not possible through some GUI program. It's better than just cracking open a book on terminal commands and hoping to memorize them

delete windows.
use nothing but linux, you will adjust and once you are proficient you will likely feel that it is far superior to a gui.
once you are good you basically get low-level control over the entire os with the command line.
this is my autism speaking but i think of it like wizardry. commands are like spells and once you know how to cast these spells you can make real world results with it. the trick is spending the time to learn the correct invocations for what you want to accomplish.

so basically time. just keep practicing and using linux and you will become a terminal wizard eventually

absolutely. even on mobile.

>Is the only way to get a virus is to accidentally install it yourself?
absolutely not

the 'install yourself virus' is whats known as a trojan.

worms can infect you by taking advantage of vulnerable services via networking

and browser exploits will affect vulnerabilities in browsers often leading to privilege escalation and persistence (meaning it uses administrative rights to basically install itself somewhere on your machine)

when visiting websites the most common attack vectors for browser exploitation are via javascript and flash.

if you disable both of these your chances of a browser exploit become very very tiny

So basically I have a problem with my computer's monitor.
Usually, I put my computer in sleep mode, and recently when it "wakes up" my monitor started going nuts. It turns on for a split second (and you can see the desktop), then turns off for like 2 seconds (this repeats for an indefinite/infinite amount of times). This is all accompanied by an electric noise right before monitor tries to turn on.
This doesn't seem to happen when I turn off and on my PC normally (no sleep mode).
Also I noticed that the high pitched noise occurs when I turn on my monitor by pressing the power button (on the monitor).
Tried it with HDMI and VGA, same thing.
Can the problem be the power adapter or is my monitor dying?

Is there a way to make Windows render a space bigger than my monitor?

I'm trying to play some older games that don't properly support changing your FOV, I need to be able to zoom the screen in (in effect reducing the FOV). I'm able to do this using Windows Borderless Gaming, by making the game run at a resolution bigger than my monitor, then centering it, but it's kind of a messed up solution as it introduces input delay and impacts FPS. When I force a custom resolution bigger than my monitors native in the Nvidia control panel, it obviously just scales it to fit.

Is there another way to make the space being rendered by the GPU bigger than your screen, so I can run games in full screen mode like this? Kind of like when you plug a laptop into a TV and the scaling is messed up and cuts off the edges of the screen, thats basically what I'm trying to achieve. I'm on an Nvidia GPU if it matters.

Pic related is an example if there's any confusion, the top being how it is, and the bottom being how I want it. Ty anons.

while i agree with the statement, i disagree on a certain specific point; people around the age of 28 grew up having to tell computers what they wanted them to do, not having the computer do everything for them.

people who grew up needing to know how to do low level networking and memory debugging just to get a freaking copy of doom to work right on lan, or configure a custom bootloader just to make Ultima VII run properly are ahead of the game when compared to most millenials who are so used to a gui that when it comes to the terminal, where the real power is, 99% of them are clueless and cant do anything unless if somebody programs it for them first

Some guys download the Android source code and compiles it for a certain hardware. It might include added/removed software, custom kernel configuration, custom other config and so on. Custom ROMs must be installed with a custom "recovery" ROM software (which is separate from Android). To install a custom recovery you might need unlocked bootloader.

>If I splice an ethernet cable and hook it up to two computers, do they get half the bandwidth?
Ethernet used to handle multiple devices on the same cable (like any other bus) but the mutual arbitration collision avoiding protocal thingy isn't supported at higher speeds. So even if your NICs support that shit still you speed would be limited to 10mbit or some shit.

I'm poor but want to be a computer science dude
Is this a good plan
Buy cheap laptop
Learn some stuff
Save files to cloud
Save up some money
Return computer (hopefully for full discount) and buy newer/better one

I'm kinda depressed so I could easily see my life never improving ever if I do nothing
My life is shit but I'm hoping it's easy to exploit return policies like that.

You can just create a new user and copy all of your files across to the new user's home folder. Make sure that you copy them using the new user's account so that you don't get file ownership problems.
Games should recognise this and you should retain your saves and configs.

You need to restart your PC, before the computer boots into windows you need to press a certain key (this depends on your motherboard) and then you will be able to select which device to boot from.

You boot into the OS installed on your USB stick and follow the instructions from there.
Usually an installer will pop up or there is a desktop icon to click.

to anyone familiar with xfwm themes I have a couple questions. So I'm making theme because I couldn't find anything minimal enough and to my liking out there so I've been working on pic related.

first of all, that little white 3 pixel thing to the right is constantly there and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove it unless I add a border which is not something I want to do. second, is there any way to add some sort of preface to the titlebar? for example in my i3 setup on my laptop I have things setup as "> title" because I like the way it looks. I know I could add it straight to the theme files by drawing it in but that feels too hacky to me and I'd rather add it into the title string instead.

Are HGST He6 HDDs supposed to be really fucking loud?
I recently got a bunch of 6TBs in "like new" condition (<20 starts) and there are two issues on all of them: clicks on idle every few seconds and extremely loud seeks. Not even my 10yo samsungs make that much noise and vibration.
Smart is fine and HGST tool does not detect any issues, during long linear operations they are quiet enough.
