If you got some nice studio monitors that would be the ultimate setup. I'm a relentless shill for the PreSonus Eris E5 studio monitors (more clinical and flat than KRK Rokkit). Even the most expensive headphones have waaaayyy too much variance between different head positions and sloppiness in FR curves to take seriously. Only good headphones are >=$1000 custom in-ear monitors. Eris E5 speakers are only $300 for a new pair. Even in a poorly suited room, they're way better for mixing than headphones. Studio monitors work best with an external interface with TRS or XLR balanced outputs.

Ayy, its been almost two months since I've posted. Finally went in on the monitor mount and large mousepad memes. Also upgraded my CRT from a Durabrand to a mid-90s Sony Trinitron. Still not a PVM but definitely a bit of an improvement over what I had. Switched out my slim PS2 for a fat one, HDD for that is in the mail now. Got a Rift from the sale, its pretty neat. Other than that I just bought a lot of media and other junk. R8, h8, thanks m8.

My experience is that horns are more focussed than silk dome, which makes positioning your speakers more of a pain. The quality of the high frequencies depends on the tweeter being used. A good slik dome tweeter can sound as good as a horn and vice versa.

The only real benefit I could see is that horns are typically more efficient, but that's not really an issue with all the high powered amps that are available nowadays.

I would suggest the MacBook Pro and the 4k Dell monitor if you can get them for the same price as the 5k iMac. That way you have a mobile rig and a desktop setup. That seems like the best option unless you do more heavy work, then get the iMac because it generally has better thermals.

What CPU? If you have at least a quad Sandy or Ivy Bridge, keep PC and just add new GPU, especially if you have four RAM slots. Many of the Sandy and Ivy bridge desktops support 32GB of RAM.

If your machine is 1st gen Core i or older, definitely upgrade.

Just get a machine like >>61934935 and upgrade PSU and plop in your 1060. You'll get the same experience as a new PC and you'll save a fuck ton of shekels. Get something that's at least quad i5 25xx/35xx. These machines go for ~$80-$120 USD on eBay.

Ryzen is nice if you edit 4K multitrack video, but won't really give you much for gayming over Sandy/Ivy Bridge i5 or i7.

Case in point, my Sandy Bridge quad laptop can easily handle 100+ botnet browser tabs and two or three VMs on 32GB of RAM while still having tons of CPU headroom

I don't see why I would need monitors since I don't mix or master music. I prefer good "fun" sounding passive speakers. Passive speakers also allow you more control over your audio chain. If an amp in a monitor stops working, you will have to swap out the monitors. If my amp would stop working, I could just swap out the amp and keep using the same speakers.

I currently use a Schiit Modi 2 Uber and a Yamaha CA-410.

If you're handy with a screwdriver and a soldering iron, it shouldn't matter.

The reason I picked my setup is because it was the absolute best quality per audio per dollar. One of the best kept secrets in audio is that mid-entry level monitors are an amazing bargain. I'd be hard-pressed to beat the performance of my setup with DIY speakers. I love being able to nitpick other people's mixes with my studio monitors. desu, I rarely actually do mixes with my setup.

I will say that your speakers do seem pretty damn amazing, but I could never justify spending that much on a pair. I didn't realize that your speakers were also 5-inchers. They seem like they would also work pretty damn well in a small room. I just prefer a front-facing reflex port, so I don't have to put them as far away fron the wall.

I guess they've totally changed their naming scheme since then.

NEC's highest end graphics displays used to be part of the "90 Series" and had model names like 2090UXi, 2490WUXi, etc. Mine is the 2090UXi. Despite being old an 4:3 it's arguably better than most brand new IPS displays because it has an ATW polarizer which is almost unheard of nowadays.

TN is totally ass senpai, you won't be happy with it. Frame tearing isn't too much of a problem at 144Hz desu and personally I rather have better color reproduction and viewing angles than a marginal improvement to smoothness at an already smooth 144Hz.

I have a 13" right now and it's a bit cramped and underspecced but still usable. Not sure if I should get the iMac and keep the 13" or get the 15" and no iMac. It's hard to say. I don't think I really need the extra horsepower over the 15" but the iMac has such a beautiful display etc and I already have a 13"...
