i got baited by amd back in 2004 and built a pc that lasted 4 years. my pentium is going strong for almost 10.
maybe amd quality is better now, but in australia where temperatures swing wildly and it's dusty as fuck everywhere amd just burns out. ati cards had the same problems, ran hot. nvida never gave me issues.
