Why do some boards have detachable cables?

You can't use the board without a cable, and you would never transport the board without a cable, and you would always need to have the cable with the board. Why would you ever need to remove it?

I'm currently using a cherry brown 100% keyboard and looking for something smaller and a different switch. I've used cherry blues in the past and prefer it over brown, but they were too loud for my situation. What are some good 75% keyboards with linear or maybe mx clear switches?

I've been looking at the Vortex Race 3, but it has a huge shipping cost to EU from mechanicalkeyboards.com
>>
>>61920204
Tada68, unironically

Gateron tactiles and linears are better than cherry's, and you can get the tada in practically any meme switch you want including zealios

1. When carrying a kb, the cable either sticks out by 2-3cm or bends enough to get damaged over time (this is especially a problem for cramped bags, or on the flip side roomy bags where the on has the space to move around and possibly crush the cable).

2. And this is the main reason: if the cable ever gets damaged (see above, or maybe the usb port got fucked up, or whatever), or you want to replace it (even premium products sometimes cut corners on less essential features, or maybe you're just a ricer faggot), you're fucked. Imagine a terrible accident happens, but miraculously your $200 memeboard is completely unharmed - however, unfortunately, the cable worth about $5 got fucked and is now completely unusable. If it's not replaceable, your only choices are to open the keyboard and fuck about with resoldering a new one yourself, or replacing the entire keyboard.

I know nothing about mechanical keyboards and I bought this because it was only £19.99 on amazon prime. It's fucking great for the money in my opinion. But I'm guessing the keys are complete shit compared to expensive mechanical keyboards?

I/ guessing you all hate it, but tell me why.
>>
>>61920545
No sense in hating it for the price.

Do you know what brand the switches are? There's some shit out there that's just horrid, but e.g. outemu switches are really very good for the price (and can be found in some £20-£25 kbs).

Some anon even did a budget build with a £25 outemu board and like £30 PBT keycaps, for an extremely surprisingly passable board at just over £50.
>>
>>61920545
>>61920771

I have the same one. I believe they're cherry brand. Blue switches. The key caps aren't great but it's a decent keyboard.
>>
>>61920771
I have no idea when it comes to these keyboards, I do feel like the keys a a bit light feeling but nothing feels cheap, especially considering that it cost 19.99 delivered. I'm guessing expensive boards have keys with more thickness and more weight? similar to older tech like like c64's etc? Mine feel a bit lightweight, but they feel solid at the same time.
>>
>>61920913
take a keycap off and see what brand the switches are
>>
>>61920923
The switches are blue and they say CK.

No

>>61921010
Some no-name chinkshit then.

>>61920913
It's more the consistency, the smoothness, the quality and durability (e.g. will the start chattering in a year?) that make the switch. The actual weight is up to preference, premium cherry and clones come in a wide variety of weights.

Keycaps also make quite a difference to feel; thin cheap ABS keycaps will feel flimsy and ABS in general will develop shine within a few months of heavy use. Thick PBT like what you'd get, for example, on a $100 tada68 (or POM, just as good but much less common) will feel much more solid, and will last decades without the feel deteriorating.

O-rings are subjective, generally speaking they don't necessarily upgrade anything. Get them if you like them, but they won't make a shit switch better - they'll make it a shit switch with o-rings.

Theoretically speaking you'd need to solder on new switches to really improve it. That is obviously not worth it, it's a fucking £20 board.

>approved cheap chinkshit
Outemu switches. The uterus keyboard (sold as victsing/victech/tomoko/possibly others) is the go-to ultra-cheap board.

This is /g/, don't people solder in their sleep? I mean we're posting in a keyboard thread where people perform hundreds of solder connections just to build a custom board, and there are dozens of custom boards in here. What's five more to fix a cable once every 25 years?

tl;dr In the rare event that the cable is damaged but the keyboard isn't, de/soldering is not a big deal.

>>61921731
>>61921834
They don't have detachable extractors tho, they require a hammer and punch to remove (none are welded.). That's more effort than de/resoldering as you're fighting spring tension, alignment and hammer blows to get it back in. Also literally everything can still fire and eject without an extractor, pic related middle is famous for it. Strawman was a crib death I'm sorry anon. :(

Sorry.

There is regulation, it's called logical progression

Start with 100%/Fullsize
90% = Compact fullsize
80%/TKL = Remove numpad from fullsize
75% = Compact TKL
65% = Remove function row from 75%
60% = Remove function row and nav keys from TKL
sub-60% = memes

Firstly, there's only like tow or three manufacturers of PBT doubleshots in the first place, secondly they're all thin garbage, thirdly green is one of the least popular colours for keycaps.

If you actually use your keyboard often a full size keyboard is great. TKL, 60% and other meme layouts are for wannabe l33t h4xors and Linux ricers and other people who don't actually use their keyboard.

No. It's a noppoo choc mini with gateron blues. Plum uses the same tooling as noppoo and I'm not sure if they are a new name for the same company or they bought it from noppoo or what.
I love both keyboards in that picture I switch back and fourth constantly.
The magicforce up top has really nice PBT caps that feel great and outemu black switches and it's just wonderful but then I switch back to the noppoo and while they are much lighter I like the feeling of pushing through the click on the blue switch.
If I'm using the magicforce I think it's the best, if I'm using the noppoo I think it's the best.
Next I'm going to get something with gateron browns so I have one of each switch.

For me I never use the num pad. I'm a lefty but use my right hand for the mouse. In order to comfortably use the num pad it would have to be on the left side for me.
It saves on desk space which is pretty important when you literally live at your computer like I do or have more than one keyboard you like to use.
When I play vidya I need my mouse hand to be close to my keyboard hand. It is more comfortable, ergonomic, and improves my performance.
Aesthetics are another consideration but not one that I consider.
>>

If you can find a buckling spring keyboard with nkro they are fine for gaming but most buckling spring keyboards don't have nkro. I would get a keyboard with gateron blue switches. Anybody know of or can recommend a keyboard that is white with either a purple or multicolor backlight that can be purple? Light blue is also fine. And not in blue switches. The keyboard in my pic was great but had blue cherry switches and the clicking drives me nuts so I wanted like brown or red switches.

Either this:
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/xd75-custom-mechanical-keyboard-kit
It includes PCB and case (optionally switches), you'll need to buy LEDs and keycaps. Also, it ships in November. Good luck finding a set that includes a 3u space bar: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/top-printed-side-printed-dsa-pbt-keycap-caps-for-usb-wried-mechanical-keyboard-104-keys/32813738267.html like a 145 key version includes only one. Or uncool ones sold for ludicrous price each separately.

Or else you would need PCB and case from here: https://kprepublic.aliexpress.com/store/group/XD75/3034003_511574183.html
And similarly switches, LEDs and keycaps.

If there is another way to get these parts cheaper, I'd certainly love to know.

Lol, at least buy a new keyboard mate. It's been years. I personally am not impressed by your filco or your guns, and especially not your measly stack of what would appear to be $2000. I am worth 7mil. Foh

The chink usb connectors finally arrived in the mail and I got around to make my first coiled sleeved cable.
Need to refine my coiling technique, I just rolled it around a metal rod and heated it with a hair dryer for a couple minutes, but it's not bad for a first attempt. Now I just need some heatshrink

We don't like Logitech here.
Nobody has ever heard of Roccat.
Buy better shit.

Outemu purple, Kailh Copper and Jailhouse blues are also worth considering. I've heard that the Outemu ice purples are smooth and almost as tactile as Cherry clears.

What is the most vfm mechanical keyboard and why is it the ck104 ?
>suitable for LED fags with multiple LED modes
>sturdy build
>simple design
>loud af clicky knock-off blue switches that do their job more than enough,if u dont mind the sound that is (just use headphones)
>great typing quality for about 45$
>>
>>61932022
its actually better if you try it. Ortholinear boards are great if you place the keyboard directly in front of you, but if you have your mouse spaced on the right side with your board shifted to the left, the slight stagger works well for finger placement.

I've been typing with a non-flipped for 20 years, and no RSI or "ouchies". Pansies.

Just bought this for 42€... It's going to arrive on monday. How fucked am I?

Got it myself with blue switches. Overall it's a pretty standard keyboard with super ugly keycaps. Replace them if you can.

Where do you get keyboards with MOD switches?

What's the cheapest mechanical keyboard that isn't a waste of money?
>>
>>61947944
Depends what you define as "waste of money". Generally speaking the uterus keyboard (i-500) is considered one of the cheapest usable keyboards, at about $20-25 or so. But it's still nowhere near as good as e.g. a tada68 ($100, comes with gaterons and some of the best keycaps the market has to offer).
>>
>>61944272
It's a case and plate from sprit, keycaps from some german groupbuy and switch housings are clear zealio housings. Leds are from kbdfans.

You have to look for jailhoused blues I guess. I'm fairly confident that there are at most 10 boards out there with jailhoused aristoteles.
The idea is the same, but the feel completely different

replacing the keycaps for layouts like that usually requires spending alot more than normal
>>
>>61949049
the keys are all standard sizes except for the right CTRL, FN, ALT, and Shift keys. These are 1x1 (shift is 1x1.5) as opposed to 1x1.25 and 1x2 which would be standard.
>>
>>61949095
don't forget about profiles if you buy sculpted keycaps
>>
>>61949134
I looked it up. I can get everything I need from wasdkeyboard. I have bought caps from there already and while they're not top notch quality they're durable enough for me. It's gonna cost a bit more than just a standard set because I have to buy custom CTRL, FN, ALT, Shift, and Backspace (forgot to mention that earlier) but all in all it seems possible. I definitely don't want that gaymur font on my keyboard though.

"When the cable breaks, the keyboard is broken/useless unless it's detachable.
It's like having detachable wheel on a Lada. You never drive a Lada without wheels, but when a wheel breaks the Lada is broken.
It's also easier to move the keyboard around when the cable is detachable. For example, if you need to use your desk to make pancakes."

A Lada is a car, blini are a type of pancakes but I think he just meant regular pancakes (блины, pronounced "blini").
