Hey guys, my 4tb external HDD is crapping out. When I plug it in, it manages to load 2 out of the 3 partitions, and the third one freezes the computer (can't open other windows, internet pages won't load, etc). Is there any way I can disable the partition that is giving me trouble before it freezes my computer?
Pic related, it's the piece of shit from a piece of shit company I am never ever buying from again.

Boot in linux and give it a shot.
Also, this is why we make backups.

I'll try that on my friend's computer. In the meantime, is there anything else I can try? Maybe something in safe mode or a command...

chkdsk /r you fucking noob. but get data off it first.

Already tried chkdsk and diskpart, it just gets stuck forever until the HDD stops trying to load the partition that is fucked and Windows gives the "a USB device could not be recognized" error. It opens the other 2 partitions just fine, but when it's trying to load the last one it hangs

Tried opening on Ubuntu, doesn't even detect it. Now it's opening on Windows but it just says the entire HDD is unallocated and I can't initialize it because of an I/O error
If you don't need your data (which you shouldn't, because you need to have backups), try offsetting the wrong partition by a few megabytes. I had a similar problem, and it turned out I couldn't use the first few megabytes of my drive. If you want to play it safe, make a backup of your other two partitions, then rebuild MBR (or whatever you need) (using e.g. GParted on Linux), and only thereafter do this trick. There is no guarantee this would work, but worth a try.
