I have pic related laying around (Acer aspire one 751).
I was thinking of putting some loonix on it to use as a basic browsing device (lubuntu is the first option currently).

Does anyone have a better recommendation for a lightweight OS? Also how much of a pain in the ass is it to get it working?

Specs:
>Atom Z520
>1Gb RAM
>160Gb HDD
>US15W chipset
>Intel GMA 500 GPU

And no I'm not planning on getting more RAM for this POS...

Puppy Linux (Deb/Ubuntu based)

Arch with i3 or even Arch with X & a terminal only.

It's too weak. I suggest you get rid of it. I used to have a 2gb acer netbook and it was an awful experience. Web browsers and websites are too bloated nowadays.

Bullshit. Just don't watch YT videos at 1080p and you'll be fine. Most phones even have 2gb or less and they can handle webpages just fine.

Try android on it (remix OS), if a chinkphone with even lower specs can play youtube and browse pajeet javascripted webpages so this thing may do.

I'll check it out, but I didn't hear good things about it.

If only I used it would be fine, but I was planning on giving it to my dad who's a tech tard so if a terminal pops up he'd probably have a heart attack... That's why I wanted to plop lubuntu on it since it has a GUI, is relatively stable and low maintenance..

I tried it on one of my other machines and it's really nice! But I don't think the atom can handle it... Also remix still has a lot of compatibility problems.

My project got roadblocked since its shitty charger bit the turd. Gonna get a spare from a neighbor tomorrow.

Is chromiumOS even an option? If not on this machine then where can I get a image in general?
