This is true. It does. The best games run on a shit PC. You can emulate games/play most good games in WINE, although I'd be lying if I said I played much more than Team Fortress 2 and Quake these days.

I used to do professional video editing and there are absolutely ZERO tolerable goddamned video editors for GNu/Linux, let ALONE competent enough NLEs to do professional quality work. As for photo software, I switched to KRITA full time recently for my artfagging and while it's a little assbackwards it's fine for art. Now photo manipulation is another story. Photoshop is industry standard for a reason, and the fact I hate Adobeshit is why I don't dabble in these fields anymore. People who try to pass this topic off as a non-issue are goddamned fools.

tl;dr Windows is shit but there are plenty of reasons why we still have to rely on it in the corporate world. Honestly, my best advice is to buy a used Mac and isolate it from anything but explicit work activities if you're absolutely required to use industry standard software (and before someone calls me an Apple faggot, I have never owned a Mac in my life and don't plan to start.) Here's to hoping that GNU/Linux gets competent software in these fields someday. I'm a writefag so I could use some 20 year old piece of shit laptop running NetBSD if I wanted to, but a lot of people can't say the same thing. If you really want to solve these problems you would stop bitching on imageboards and go out to create competent alternatives/contribute to existing projects.

Its the opposite. Linux doesn't give me the freedom to work with the tools i want to work with. Its not me that has to change. I just have to use another OS for these tools, which i do. Houdini, Maya and Nuke run better on Linux so i use both.
