Should I switch to Irssi? I used weechat for years but I'm considering switching clients.

weechat has better dcc. Irssi has better everything else.
>>
Well, I was wondering the inverse: I've started using IRC and learned some irssi, but I've read people saying weechat is superior in every way. I'm almost comfortable with perl5, so it doesn't really matter if weechat supports extensions in many languages, but damn if irssi's config file isn't cryptic, mutt's is a model of clarity in comparison.

there is literally no reason to not use hexchat
>>
>>61878945
How do I run that on a headless server?

Use ircII with AtlantiS or PhoEniX desu.
>>

Dunno, irssi is really simple and well documented but I've never used weechat
>>

Never used anything but irssi.

You're not supposed to edit irssi's config file directly. Use /set variable value from irssi, e.g. /set nick faggot.

Loading scripts is easy as fuck, too: /script load nameofscript. And if you want to autoload them just create an autoload dir in .config/irssi/scripts and ln -s the script to it.

irssi fucking rules.

What? Run ZNC on your server and connect with hexchat.
>>
>>61877318
It's masked for a reason.
>>
Who the hell cares? It's just an IRC client, just use something that works.
>>
If you're going to use something command line based, how different could the two be.

Both presumably support connecting to servers, typing words in channels, logging. What else do you need from irc you are running on a headless server or whatever other niche reason you have for not using a gui client

Irssi power user here. I've used Irssi for the past few years because it just works, and has sane defaults (and doesn't look like a clown vomited all over it). I tried switching to weechat because of the multiple scripting languages it supports, but ended up trying to make it look and behave more like Irssi. I also found that weechat is slower when parsing 1k lines per second, which is a must for me. Irssi does this directly, whereas weechat takes several seconds to return the data.
