is it a faux pas to use <hr> while contributing to an open source project? With that it works perfectly, but I wonder if they'll go apeshit on me for using that.

They don't have any classes with a functioning border-bottom attrib that doesn't fuck with the layout of what I'm working on, and I'd rather not edit their scss.

I finally made the switch to linux and am amazed at the whole paradigm. I've always known about open-source and the philosophy & shit, but actually living it by using the stuff as your daily driver really makes it real to me.

I wanna get deeper into it, and I'm also a fresh (well, since May) BSEE grad looking for a job so I figure I could use a few projects to bolster my experience while I keep searching.

I'd love to start with making a Raspberry Pi into an emulator console, but I've only used Arduino before. What's the cheapest and best route/Pi version to doing this?

>The USB-eth module in Linux makes the computer running it a variation of an Ethernet device that uses USB as the physical medium. Not very, I don't have a thermostat, but it's only 70 degrees outside and my friend across the hall has his HDDs running nearly 10 degrees cooler in similar temperatures.

>Does your case have good airflow to the drive bay?
There's a few cables near it but they shouldn't be blocking it that much and it has the front intake fan directly next to it on the other side. I found an old speccy screenshot from just under a year ago and the same setup is running the same HDDs nearly 10 degrees cooler, and my room was probably hotter then too. The airflow shouldn't be an issue unless my front intake is dying on me without me noticing.

Pagefile is 99% obsolete. The one good reason for it is that your applications will start crashing once you hit your memory limit otherwise. Put your pagefile on a spinning disk, if you have one. The slowness of the spinning disk will give you time to shut down processes that are leaking memory before your system becomes unresponsive. As for size... 8GB or 16GB maybe should be good enough.

I'm looking at the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 Mini ITX OC 3GB atm as oppose to the dual fan because its $40 cheaper.

they have the same speeds but i don't undder stand this,

>1531 MHz in Gaming Mode

what the fuck is gaming mode? do i have to turn that on myself?

Now. What's the difference between paid proxies and free ones? there's many sites that can detect that I'm using a proxy, if I bought one does that mean i'll get an dedicated IP which will result in sites not knowing I'm using a proxy?
>>
>>61881978
Your paypal email alone would work just fine
>>
>>61881986

The proxies usually have a set IP, doesn't matter if free or bought. That means they will still detect that you are using a proxy. I use a paid proxy (perfect privacy) for some stuff, yet I can't use them on 4chan because the available proxy's IP's are blocked on here. But when I use/need a proxy, I also get good up/downspeeds, which is relevant for me. I don't need them for shitposting.

>What's the difference between paid proxies and free ones?
Both of them want money. Paid ones ask it up front while the free ones track you and sell the data to whoever offers the most. Also I woudnt recommend logging into facebook or similar site with them, there's no way to know if they're going to steal your account or not.
>>
>>61882135
Depends on the VPN
You will need to pay for a VPN that is worth anything

>>
>>61882135
The most common means of detecting proxies is to have a list of their IPs. If you set up your own VPN(or proxy), it obviously won't be on such a list, and therefore won't be detected. If you rent a VPS(like $5 a month for a cheap one that should be sufficient as long as you don't intend to download tons of stuff through it), you can easily find tutorials on how to set up a VPN.

>>
>>61882462
Pirating an antivirus is generally a pretty poor idea. Doing so will almost always require you whitelist whatever crack you used to pirate it, so you're taking on faith that there's nothing malicious in there. And anyway there are plenty of free antiviruses out there that work just fine. I've used AVG, Avast, and recently moved to Bitdefender. I find Bitdefender to be pretty good besides the fact that it does seem to get a decent amount of false positives, and there was a day or two when it slowed the FUCK out of my web browser due to a buggy update or something (that was quickly sorted by a new update after, until then I just had to disable protection while launching my browser and then re-enable immediately after and continue browsing.) I think Avast used to be really good but it's gotten a lot more bloated and naggy recently so I'm not sure if I'd recommend it anymore. Can't remember why I moved from AVG but I think it's still a solid option.

yes, they (may) contain parts of memory (in the case of hiberfil and a hibernated swap, ALL memory)
passwords and encryption keys are stored in memory when they're needed, so if you're concerned about swap space being accessible, you should encrypt it (if you use hibernate) or erase it upon shutdown (if not using hibernate)

I did this because I realized I have not had contact to humans for 4 years again now. So I thought I should get a smartphone to at least simulate the contact. I tried out What's App but noone is writing and it's been three weeks.

What can I do to have messages which are adressed to me and be able to send messages to other people? Should I file a bug report? I don't care which messenger to use. I'm sitting on my tech like an ape in a spaceship and am ashamed.

Situation: Dual screen setup, using the right display as main monitor
Problem: when using said right display for videogames, sometimes i accidentally swipe to the left and click on the left display, minimizing the game without wanting to.
How do i completely lock my cursor to my main display to avoid this happening ingame?

generally speaking, and this may be a bit out of date:
cheaper cases are awful to build in, the interior is usually very low quality or unfinished, on cheap cases you might find sharp cuts for cable routing whereas on slightly more expensive ones you'll find that they're both deburred or have rubber grommets to protect the cables
cheap cases tend to suck for expandability (harddrives, fans, etc), while good cases don't always have this what they tend to do better is quality of life stuff like harddrive trays you can remove without tools, fan bays with integrated dust filters, etc
cheap cases are either ridiculously heavy (steel sheet metal) or more commonly these days incredibly light and flimsy (aluminium)
expensive cases can have some premium features like built in sound dampening (which may be a downside as they tend to also be steel)

basically, the cheapest bottom of the barrel stuff is only ever for something you want to put your components into once and then never touch again, the more expensive you'll go the more quality of life features that will make removing/changing components, cleaning the case, etc, much nicer, but there's generally diminishing returns, past about $100-150 ish the only thing you're paying for is cases designed for water cooling or full tower cases (water cooling again), exceptions are for small form factor cases which are ridiculously expensive regardless of quality

as for,
>Why aren't all cases large with room for extra shit?
simply put nobody wants or needs a full tower case (pic related), even mid-sized cases with lots of hdd bays are absolutely ridiculously huge for the typical normie that would only be used to a prebuilt that has room for a single hdd or two

almost forgot to mention, years back the argument for more expensive cases was that they had more fan slots but these days even the cheapest case will (usually) have enough slots for fans if you're not doing any ridiculous overclocking and don't have housefire tier gpus, but if you happen to want to put a super power hungry cpu/gpu in the case you might want to get something which has at least a side panel fan so you can put an intake right next to your gpu, and having a rear exhaust as well as a top exhaust works wonders for cooling large tower cpu heatsinks but just a strong single rear exhaust fan works fine for most situations

You do realize that you're not supposed to boot from the driver disk, right? Drivers are something you install in the operating system.

That's just complete bullshit. It's not broken and I can't even remember the last time it crashed.

I don't understand why I sometimes get a slow connection when doing batch transfers.
I normally get 5-10 MB/s, but sometimes I get a slow connection. It's not uncommon for me to start a batch transfer and then come back to it in the morning and find that it's been stuck all night on one file that somehow only got a 10KB/s connection.
If I want my transfers to complete in a reasonable time, I have to sit and babysit it, and manually cancel slow connections and re-try.
This mostly happens with FTP because it always opens a new connection for every file, but I occasionally have the issue with sftp/scp as well.

Hi /g/
I know windows is looked down here but I've got a question.
I'm about to install windows 7 ultimate so I can fix my current copy of windows and use more than 16GB of RAM. The only thing is I want to install a pirated copy I have flashed onto a USB. Can Pirated copies of windows have ransomware? Keyloggers embedded? backdoors? How can I tell if mine is safe? Thanks.

like on any other PC.
First, you install Windows, then you install your other OSes.

Just make sure that features like secureboot is turned off in the BIOS before installing. If it didn't come with a keyboard, you'll need one to hit F2 or DEL.

For all your USB installation needs from ISOs, there's Rufus... it's worked perfectly with all OS and boot disks i've thrown at it...
>>
>>61884361
Couldn't you just.. ask them? they most likely have nothing to hide, even if they torrent unethically.

if not, for whatever reason, you could install a bandwidth monitor and sync it up with your own device. doesn't show up anywhere unless you specifically search for it.

download the iso and check the sha 256 sum and compare it with the one that (hopefully) microsoft has on their website. If it's the same as the one displayed by microsoft then you can be sure that no one tampered with your image.
You can also try to get the right iso from the microsoft website, no idea if they offer the ultimate version for download just like that tho.
>>
>>61885080
it already has windows 10 on it, and i already tried rufus.
iso burned to usb just fine, then i tried booting from it in the bios, the usb flashes so i know it's being read, then it stops flashing and boots to internal hdd instead.
>>
Im dealing with a old PC.
Classic underscore flashing but the HDD is fine, even with no HDD it will happen.
What could it be?

I'm sharing some tv shows with a friend. Does compressing and extracting(from his side) reduce the quality of the video in any way using 7z?

no, but if they had a decent codec to begin with, 7z would get you a negative compression rate.

i keep all my music on an external harddrive (in an auto-generated itunes folder), so should i (or even can i) choose this external harddrive to be the installation destination folder?
thanks
>>
>>61885178
Thanks but it's one of those ISOs that has multiple windows installs on it, unless theres a way to figure it out. Am I better off just getting a W7 ultimate 64bit from tpb and just checking that sum? I should mention I've used the ISO i've been talking about before on two different computers and they dont seem comprimised in any way so maybe im just being paranoid about putting it on my "main" computer.
>>
how do i activate win 8?
>>
>>61885657
>Am I better off just getting a W7 ultimate 64bit from tpb and just checking that sum?
if you want to make sure its okay then yes. But it will be useless unless you have the actual real sha 256 sum from m$. And I can't seem to find any right now. I think microsoft at least offers isos for their older regular versions but i don't know if they do the same for ultimate.

Its more "potential" and cheaper but stronger low and mid end GPUs, but right now is not enough to cover the casual market demand.
Better than GDDR5 and GDDR5X indeed, but there is not enough so its expensive which makes it useless.

Well i guess they are using DDR6 first, which should be faster and cheaper.

Have you done MD5/sha checksum check on your downloaded ISO?

it's likely that secureboot or other features (like the so-called "boot sector virus protection") are inhibiting the USB boot process.

In order to turn those off, you need to enter the BIOS... you might need to press F2 or alt+F2 instead of DEL if your tablet is a lenovo or similar. Also try F10, as this is common on some lenovo, dell and HP hardware.

Even though it looks like it immediately boots to windows or whatever, the BIOS will be there in one form or another.

secureboot is usually only there to prevent you from installing anything else than Windows, and is extremely common on tablet hardware... however, the feature also usually display the symptoms you get if it's enabled... It tries to read the media, reads it as an install media that's not on a hard drive (usually by reading certain boot headers) and secureboot then halts the device.
>>
>>61885838
It uses less power(which means the GPU itself can use more), and it offers more bandwidth. So it's a pretty big improvement in memory technology.
>>
>>61885444
Some older boards won't boot at all if there's a USB drive inserted... this also goes for external hard drives.

It may also be a symptom of a flat BIOS battery (or Dallas module if it's that old)

See if you can get hold of a motherboard speaker or a PCI or ISA diagnostic module (aka. a POST card)... the latter one will be able to thell you more or less exactly where, when and what is failing, while listeining to beep codes from a speaker is somewhat less exact. Both options are very cheap... BIOS speakers can be found for around 10 cents a piece, while POST cards go for $2-3

>>
>>61884403

Full screening the application usually locks it to one screen
>>
>>61886516
doesnt work with source games apparently
you can easily click outside of the screen if you swipe the mouse a bit fast
>>
>>61886431
Make sure you have the game in fullscreen mode. This seems obvious but often times people have the "borderless window" option enabled in the game settings and this happens. If it's fullscreen your cursor stays locked so long as you don't press the windows key.

I do this myself and it works fine.
