PSU requirements are always intentionally inflated to accommodate people with shit timebomb PSUs that can't actually deliver the advertised wattage. If I recall correctly, the GTX670 I bought ages ago "required" a 600W unit or lager.

How will AMD fans make the price to performance argument when you have to spend an extra $100 on a 1000w PS?

High wattage PSU's are usually only recommended because some of the power supplies people use are no name chinese garbage. My buddy is still running hit main build off the same 460w platinum rated Seasonic PSU he bought years ago. It's powered his C2Q/gtx 295 build back in the day and it's powering his R5-1600/GTX 1080 build now. All companies go overkill with their PSU recommendation so that no one blows up their PSU and people complain.

450watts, the pci-e slot is another 75watts.
Consider that the target market for VEGA will likely be OC'ed 115x i7/x99/x299/oc'ed Ryzen 7 or OC'ed Threarippah. - so 450watts + 200watts for CPU + ~50 watts for sundries and you're at 800watts load.

1000watt PSU isn't a bad suggestion.
VEGA is a shit card though.
