Why the shit isn't x64 applications standard yet? Why does x32 still exist? It's not like you can't run x64 apps on x32 systems

Really discharged my capacitors.

Thanks for your valuable input, friend
Mac os is doesn't have such problem

>it's not like you can't run x64 apps on x32 systems
but it's exactly like this, retard
>apps
My tablet came with win10 x86 because muh 2GB RAM.
>>61866442
Oh, but you can.
qemu :^)

Most applications don't need it
thats why linux is dropping 32bit support too
>>61866453
What's the difference between an application and a program?
>>61867248
linux isn't dropping 32bit support
>>61866874
that's running a 64 bit application on a 64 bit system emulated on a 32 bit system, not running a 64 bit application on a 32 bit system.
>>61867237
This. Anything that can actually benefit from being 64 bit has been for a long time, you don't need every fucking program to be 64 bit just to appease your autism.
>>61866135
because not every application needs more than 4GiB of memory, besides 64 bit pointers unnecessarily use memory

How the hell are you supposed to play classic games on modern hardware if they dropped 32bit support, hmm? It's bad enough that 16bit is gone in x64bit Win 7+. Not everyone wants to keep several pcs setup & working just to play several generations of games. That takes space and a lot of people don't got it to spare. Plus most programs don't need 4GB+ to function (ex :office, web browser, antivirus, etc) If they ever do then something is really fucked with them. God, I remember 2001ish when a full install of windows, productivity software, games, etc all used under 4GB of space and ran on hardware that is crammed inside a smart phone of today.

if windows programs went 64bit earlier, at this point 32bit-only things would be at least 10 years old, making the barrier for emulating a 32bit cpu for them much more feasable

linux has a solution for that
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X32_ABI
an ABI that uses 32bit pointers, but is for amd64, so can use the full functionality of them
the perfect compromise for programs that don't need >4G ram (which is still most of them)
similar techniques have been used in some non-x86 systems for ages

Cherry trail atoms have 32 bit uefi. Have fun getting anything to work on that piece of shit, it's a nightmare.
