I have no reason to think that it's founder (who used so sell peoples data) can somehow break the privacy policy and start to spy on you.
Also, they help with fundings to a lot of free software. So they look like the good guys overall.

Yandex is botnet. It's even less ethical than Google.
Also, even if they don't want to - they have to spy on you, because Russian laws are very hostile towards any kind of privacy.
Also, if you are russian - search results are useless because they are very biased based on Yandex Direct which is their Adwords. I guess it's not that bad if you live in a country where Yandex has a weak connection yet.
So there is no reason to support them.

Search for anything and there's probably a bang for it. Besides the common !yt for youtube and !w for wikipedia there's also some very neat ones like !deb for debian packages and you can even search the 4chan /g/ catalog with !4chg.
