Is svchost equivalent to systemd?
>>
>>61862202
It's the service host process, previously in Windows multiple services would be run by a single service host for some sort of performance reasons, but it hasn't been necessary in a decade so they gave each service its own service host in 10.
>>
>>61862256
>so they gave each service its own service host in 10.

Sounds like Indian coding to me, desu. Poo and inefficient under the hood.

Enjoy your botnet.
>>
>>61862318
How so? When one service host contains multiple services, a crash can take out multiple services at once instead of just the one that crashed. The only negative is slightly higher resource usage (to a degree that was only relevant on hardware from 15 years ago) and a more cluttered process list.

Use the processes tab to actually see what the hosts are doing. Then go into services and disable that of which you fully understand you don't need.

Good luck!

Because those aren't windows services you imbecile, a fresh install will do nothing about that. Open run, type in services.msc and disable shit that you deem unworthy of ever running again.

Going into services and clicking disable and restarting is pretty easy desu
Although they can always make it easier by adding more option toggles to the Windows Install screen under some 'advanced options' setting to normfags don't fuck up their computer like they usually do.

You cannot disable those session-generated services from services.msc. It throws an error about an incorrect parameter if you try and disable them. You have to dig in the registry to disable them.

:^) Oh, what to do with all these extra resources!
>>
>>61862146
I don't know.

I only have my browser, GPU drivers, and audio drivers(which Windows installed automatically) as the only programs installed, and I tried to disable as many services as I possibly could, but I STILL have 47 svchost.exe processes. Fucking 90 in total.

I remember Windows 7 only had around 40 or so running processes every time I checked.
>>
>>61862146
I think the problem is that it installs those programs by default for you, many of which you literally cannot disable.
>>
>>61870153
Previous versions of Windows had lower svchost process counts because a single svchost would run multiple services.

You disgust me.
>>
>>61868597
*That* is the efficient way of doing it. It's faster, safer and probably easier to implement than letting the same process run all services. Stop acting like and edgy 13yo faggot and accept the fact that you don't know jack shit.
>>
>>61868597
It's slightly less efficient (less than a few MiB of "wasted" memory) but it means that one service crashing doesn't cause other services to crash. The original system was designed in the late 90s for late 90s hardware, so it was necessary to group them together regardless of what negative effects it had.
>>
>>61870302
Actually, the faster, safer and easier way of doing it is to not HAVE that many services in the first place, regardless of what process they're running in.
>>
>>61870173
Windows is designed primarily for normalfags, so the model of bundling everything and letting you decide what to remove works better than bundling nothing and letting you decide what to add.

>you literally cannot disable.
I haven't found a non-system critical process that I can't kill.

>>
>>61870337
Which would be fair enough, if they didn't bundle some truly retarded shit with Windows that not even 2-5% of the userbase knows about. The idea is sound in theory, but they couldn't even do that right. Look at the default drivers that are included which take up anywhere from 5-10 gigabytes of space depending on your installation. It's all really obscure shit for 20 year old HP printers that nobody even uses anymore, and outdated GPU drivers for all vendors that your system is going to automatically replace with a newer one before it even finishes booting, if you have a working internet connection.

They include a ton of shit that genuinely nobody uses or cares about, and fail to include a lot of important shit that WOULD be beneficial for the users. At least they have a somewhat competent antimalware program and a browser in Win10, despite both being piles of trash.

>I haven't found a non-system critical process that I can't kill.
I don't have a Win10 VM on hand at the moment, but I'm fairly sure they added a lot of "critical" processes compared to the ones Win7 had, and changed a lot of them to be "critical" too like Windows Defender, the Task Scheduler and a bunch of other shit. You can still "disable" them by manually renaming their executables/DLLs or some by using the CLI service manager, but it's a far less ideal situation than it was on Win7.

i'm sure there's countless more worthless/straight up malicious services that are started and impossible to stop/prevent from startup
as if any of this shit is required let alone wanted by even a tenth of the pc userbase
