So how long until it's illegal for a browser to not display ads?

congrats, no copyrighted material was used illegally, this shit is defunct

Adblock lists won't get hosted in america, problem solved
>>
>>61861320
Considering how cucked america is I wouldn't doubt it if they actually implemented a law to block this.
Sucks to be an amerifat living in a country run by corporations
>>
>>61861249
Never. The DMCA does not apply to this case.

The Supreme Court passed a ruling last year that companies have no legal right to stop an owner from modifying the hardware or software of their purchased device. While this was brought about by phones and consoles, it applies to everything under the sun.

Hence,
You can't stop me from modifying the hosts file.

Ad companies do not own the rights to a domain name much less a reference to a domain name stored in a database that is not even theirs. Under DMCA filing a false takedown notice is perjury which is an *actual* crime.

So how do we block that asshole company?

Windows 10 already ignores certain domains in the hosts file. It would be no problem for Microsoft to continue adding to that whitelist.

I think even if you set aside the problems with using the DMCA this way it still wouldn't be legal because it seems to violate the first amendment (free speech). They're basically trying to prevent the easylist developers from writing their company/domain name in the blocklist.

A name is not copyrightable, it's just a reference to something. You can trademark a name but the DMCA does not protect those and this is not really a trademark violation.

>>61861788
You made an assertion that bought hardware either is now in some cases or likely will be in other cases only usable under a purchased license and the "owner" has no rights.

I said, refer to line 2, which stated:
>the protection to maintain and/or modify your hardware
Invalidating your bullshit.

Now go kill yourself I have unimportant time wasting shit to do before bed.
>>
>>61861541
>Windows 10
hahaha
>>
>>61861819
>the protection to maintain and/or modify your hardware
But if it's not yours that protection doesn't apply, which was the entire point, which you therefore never invalidated.

>deprecated software
hahaha

>>61861819
>I told that poster to check line two of the post I had just made in reply.
Still has nothing to do with not being able to count.
>>
>>61861586
If the decision is the one I think it is, it's strictly about patent exhaustion on first sale, not the DMCA.
>>
>>61861568
Get the fuck out of here, you unironic fascist.
>>
>>61861396
They're arguing that their domain is an "effective anti-circumvention measure", which means the DMCA applies. It comes down to whether blocking an anti-ad-blocker domain classifies as circumventing an anti-circumvention measure.
>>
>>61862024
Where did you get the idea that I approve of that?

So from the gist of it, Admiral is upset because an ad-blocking list is blocking a domain on their site, which is used for users to pay. And it's because of this that they're filing the DMCA. But the domain can be bypassed by disabling javascript? Sounds like they're the stupid ones. Does anyone else think this will hold up at all?
>>
>>61861249
I know i will get flamed for saying this but can someone submit this to slashdot?
idk whats /g/'s opinion of slashdot, i think that most of them have a good head on their shoulder, and articles posted on slashdot has a tendency to well 'slashdot'

Im just surprised i havent heard about this from slashdot first

How would they enforce this?
>>
>>61865659
Just like they currently enforce copyrights: opportunistically.
