So what's the best terminal out there? I used to use terminator but I feel it's a bit bloated, I would just use the default terminal for XFCE4 but it's missing a lot of features I use, any suggestions?

I'm using urxvt right now. It's basically unusable without configuration though.
>>
Use ST from suckless. Its code is small and simple and most functionalities you'll want are either already built in or can be added trough patches.

>I would just use the default terminal for XFCE4 but it's missing a lot of features I use
out of curiosity, what features do you use that xfce4-terminal is missing?
>>
>>61853349
Yeah, I've tried urxvt a couple times but didn't have the time to config it, might try it again soon
>>61853360
Thank you.
>>
>>61853375
using shift and arrow keys to select text
>>
Xfce4 builds on the already excellent gnome terminal. I can't imagine any major features missing from it. Urxvt is okay, but to truly make the most of it you'd need knowledge of Perl, otherwise it has fewer features than xfce4/gnome terminal. The major draw is its lightness but those mentioned before are light enough in my opinion. St is barebones as well and in my experience I couldn't get the delete key working even after patching it, so I don't think it's worth it either.

seconding st, literally the only thing it doesn't (and can't without a major patch that doesn't currently exist) properly display images w3m/neofetch, ranger works fine though. fast as hell and tiny
>>
>>61853517
please enlightenly about this "stock" terminal
>>
>>61853360
>>61853564
I'm having trouble installing it and the README is no help, can I have some help from you guys?
>>
>>61853531
>>61853407
That's fair enough. Though surely xfce4 has some sort of method for selecting text with a keyboard? I use the mouse for that so I hadn't considered it.
>>
>>61853577
??? the basic terminal that comes preinstalled on your OS
>>
>>61853600
extract it
cd into st dir
install dependencies (?)
make
sudo make install

Off the top of my head
>>
>>61853564
Not OP, but how do you copy / paste by default in st? That was the only issue I had with it and it was a fatal one.
>>
>>61853327
Try guake.
>>
>>61853695
>trying to copy paste through intended methods in linux
just give the fuck up on this and cheat your ass off:

>use parcellite (or whatever clipboard manager) to keep your x selection and clipboard synchronized
>install xdotool and bind a keyboard combination to xdotool click 2: middle-clicking seems to be the one 'paste' command that works pretty much anywhere
>on console, use `xsel` (or $(xsel) if you like) when applicable
>if you use vim, install a version of vim with system clipboard features enabled and you can copy/paste from there using the system registers

sidestep all the bullshit
>>
>>61853655
Alright, have it installed
>>
>>61853880
eesh, shift+arrow keys doesnt work
>>
>bloated
stopped reading there. most of you wouldn't know bloated if it fucked you in the ass.
>>
>>61853922
Me-ow anon.
>>
>>61853695
You do shift+alt+v to paste and +c to copy.
>>
>>61853901
What program are you running? Also what do you use those keybinds for?
>>
>>61853901
Maybe you could use tmux instead and learn the copy mode, anon.

Try using it with w3m to display images, it's bugged sadly.
>>
>>61854041
Oh that I think you didn't properly use the term info that comes with the source code. Or maybe just read suckless page on St I think there's a patch to that.

Didn't do shit with it for years, so you probably would have to update the code to work with the current site.

Terminology. It is magical!

>>61853486
Gnome terminal is slow as shit.
>>
>>61853577
xterm. It comes with X11 and is the most portable and one of the most featurefull
>>
>>61853360
>>61853486
st is basically the opposite of bloated
there is no reason it needs to be configured from source and not a small file in your home directory
