Etcher is probably the example of what's wrong with modern software
It's quite literally a DD GUI, but it's 40 MB, takes up 300 MB of ram to idle, AND it's botnet.
>Inb4 Windows
>Inb4 Linux
>Inb4 MacOS
It's also comfortable. I like it, and I have 300MB available.
Brave
A bad browser even before we consider the adware that comes with it
>>61850773
The fuck is a DD?
>>61850789
Data destroyer. Are you new?
>>61850798
I don't store my dolphin porn on SD cards, so I don't have a need for it :^)
>>61850789
Don't know what OP referred to, but "dd" is an ancient Unix command line tool for copying files, which is mainly used to make images of drives since each drive is a file in Unix.
OP's pic seems like something like that.
>>61850773
Why would you use it when rufus exists?
Also, Etcher is mainly JS+CSS+HTML, so yeah it's trash.

it's built on top of Electron. Of course it's shit.

>disk image writer written atop a fucking browser engine
this is it, guys.
i have finally seen everything, there is no need for me to continue living.

>40MB program
>to do "cat < image > disk"
>>61850773
What do you expect? It's essentially the entire Chromium runtime to display 3 icons, 2 lines, some text and a button.
>>61850773
There's no rufus on linux and macOS and it does the job, that's fine by me.
>>61851432
This is what Macfags are talking about when they mention a "polished user experience".
>>61851528
macfags use disk utility or unetbootn
>>61850773
Microsoft Windows doesn't have this problem.
>>61851541
Macfags suck their boyfriend's dick and don't even know what those are.
>>61850824
cat is even easier:# cat distro.iso > /dev/sdd
>>61851579
real quality post faggot
>>61851720
go away noob
>>61851528
>Macfags
you're an idiot. macfags demand native apps. go to AppStore and look. non-native apps can't even get approved.
>>61851571
Can't you just do it in the terminal in Linux anyway?
>>61851499
Because they both have dd.
>>61852237
Why would anyone waste time with that when they can open Rufus with 2 clicks and select whatever file they want in a glance without having to memorize their entire directory and file list?
Proprietary file formats
Peer to peer gaming
DRM
Routers
>>61852567
>Routers
Wut
>>61852698
The generic ones from the cable companies
They're cheap slow and undeliverable as hell, everyone uses them and wonder why they have bad connections
>>61850773
Jesus it wouldn't even be that hard to write a GUI in tkinter for dd. What were they thinking?
>>61852740
Oh, yeah, the shitty modem/router/switch/AP combo shitboxes.
>>61851499
You don't need a GUI to image a dream drive. Back when I did rufus it was a fucking crapshoot whether or not it could boot, but every time I used dd it just werk'd. Thinking that every single fucking action on your computer needs a GUI is the worst Windowsism.
>>61852516
But it's literally not two clicks. With tab completion on most shells and ls you don't need to "memorize their entire directory and file list." You just showed that you are completely unqualified to speak about this, and should fuck off back to >>>/v/.
>>61852868
Delet dis nephew
>>61852296
>>61852805
>but muh cli shit
this is why no one takes linux seriously
>>61852923
>tab completion
Inferior in every way to a GUI file list. Fuck off retard.
>>61853961
Actually, only tech illiterates don't take Linux seriously.
Get with it.
>>61850773
>>61854103
>being this retarded.
While you're typing "Rufus zip download" or fumbling around to find the exe, I already typed what I want to do into my launcher and begun copying.
Dumb spic nigger, stay on Windows.
>>61851720
Now try doing that with sudo.
Reaaaly makes u think huh
