Is Bulova good or garbage?
>>
>>61842784
Modern bulova has a few acceptable pieces. Mostly mallcore shit though.

Vintage accutrons are great though.

>>
>>61842784
Vintage Bulova has some very interesting pieces. They were an American brand, and they made some of the watches our soldiers went to war with.

Now it's part of citizen. They're fine, if unremarkable.
>>
>>61842807
As long as it's the 38mm, it's okay. Has an (elabore if I'm not mistaken) 2892-A2 in it which is nice.
>>
>>61842800
What about Movado? I don't like the looks personally, they seem like overpriced crap.
>>
>>61842839
>they seem like overpriced crap.
Exactly.
>>
>>61842820
Afaik hamilton, and other swatch brands, use something like an modified elabore for most of their watches. Like elabore base 2824 with incabloc instead of etachocs (2892 only uses incabloc I think.) But I don't know all the specifics.

Yea I feel the same way. After owning a few mid range Seikos this year I plan to save up and get my first swiss piece. Deciding between a Speedmaster and a datejust. The 1861 is fine, if a bit technically dated. It doesn't hack, has a 21,600bph beat rate and is cam actuated (though at least it doesn't use a horizontal clutch like a 7750).

Can't speak to that proxy service as I've always used Buyee.

Those are all reasonably attainable except the 1675 is outrageously expensive like most vintage Rolexes. I already have two of them. I'd probably switch the Constellation for a VC or JLC dress watch if the Constellation didn't have sentimental value. As much as I like crazy haute horlogerie stuff, I see stuff like that more as museum pieces or curiosities than anything I would actually want to buy or wear.

there are zero references to China.

>Upon his arrival, Biver set about creating a new flagship collection that was unveiled in Basel in April 2005, with the Hublot "Big Bang" chronograph. It was an immediate success and orders increased threefold in one year. A few months later, in November 2005, the Big Bang chronograph was awarded internationally, receiving the "2005 Design Prize" in the "Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix", the "Sports Watch Prize" at the "Watch of the Year" ceremony in Japan, and the Middle Eastern Prize for the "Best Oversized Watch" at the Editor’s Choice "Watch of the Year" in Bahrain.
so awards from 1x Switzerland, 1x Japan and 2x Middle East.
No mention of China.

http://luxurysociety.com/en/articles/2011/09/the-decline-of-conspicuous-consumption-in-china/

The thing about *conspicuous* consumption is that it has to be visible. And that made watches huge.

Recently I was looking for a new watch and asked about the sizes (as in: huuuge). He told me it was the result of Chinese demands but sizes were about to return to normality soon.

I will have to put off buying a new watch a few more years yet.

Do we believe that the ratio of circumference to width is highly variable?

Of course it is highly variable.

My wrist width of 6cm is fairly large compared to my pedestrian 7" circumference. I have very flat wrists.

But width is what determines if watches fit visually.

The bezel can unlock and be rotated to set the time.

But for winding the entire caseback is basically part of the springbarrel (1:48 you can see the spring, and the two red horns used as PR indicators) so you just grab hold of the back and twist to wind it.
>>
so who has the absolute finest finishing?

Duffour? Urban Jurgensen? Voutillainen? Lange? Laurent Ferrier? Journe?

(btw i can't spell all these foreign names)
>>
>>61854413
iktf, not being able to speak proper French is suffering when you are in a watch store. And the question is hard to answer because most manufacturers' finishing depends on the actual watch model. The nicest finishing I ever saw was on a Patek minute repeater and it was a Ladies model. But the Calatrava has a pretty average finishing for the price. Inb4 Grand Seiko btw.

>>61855103
Which part? I suppose anyone could make it so that you rotate the case back to wind the mainspring.

But in terms of rotating the bezel to set the watch, that's based on the freak design itself. That movement isn't moving a minute hand, it's moving its entire self, as a minute hand, around that fixed internal ring gear. But that fixed gear is actually attached to the bezel, which allows you to manipulate the time when you unlock it by pulling up the little "diavolo" plate at the bottom of the face.

I just looked more into the Homos lineup. I guess I like the Metro, the Tetra and the Lambda but it kind of bothers me that there are no central-seconds models. Also immediately at the main page I'm greeted by a nu-male beard.

Seamasters are obviously not diving watches are you retarded? It's meant for wearing on a yacht, they were supposed to be dress watches with some water resistance in case you splashed them.

>>61857428
It still looks goofy, vintage collectors do all this agonizing about the watch being all original with every little detail exactly like the day the watch left the factory but then they throw out the original bracelet.

Would it be so hard to replace the multi function crown with an equally multi function bezel?
>>
>>61857815
It would certainly be a lot harder than just sticking with what we got already. Which is if why someone did it I'm sure it would be quite expensive.

That being said I'm sure it could be done.

Most haute horlogerie stuff has enormous ugly cases that are basically just an afterthought to fit the movement, they're huge platinum or gold hockey pucks. They're more curiosities than anything practical and I can't imagine anybody actually wearing them in the real world, but maybe I just don't know enough billionaires.

Not all of us have the same taste anon, I bet that's why you're the only one with two big skelleton watches (one being 50mm) on your dream list. I just don't see myself wearing something like that. While I like some skelleton watches, those are just way too extravagant
Also being expensive is not the only thing that makes a watch a dream watch, at least for me it needs a unique but coherent design (having a unique design while not being ugly for the sake of being different) and be rare enough or been out of production for like decades to be a dream watch.
>>
>>61859879
Expensive is a big part of dream watches. Things that you can afford aren't really dreams, they're budgetary considerations.

My problem with Paul is he only really thinks in terms of resale value. Then there is his circlejerk of specific brands and models. The constant repetitive prattling of the Explorer ii POLAR and the Speedmaster MOTFM grinds on me. He speaks the truth sometimes but I find myself with more nausea than inspiration.
