Generally curious
How did /g/ learn how to use vim/emacs?

Basic vim is as easy as any other text editor.
But you just keep learning more and more things it can do.

too much free time
just diddle with them for a while like i do with chino every night
>>61839968
i absorbed vim through stroking my prostate and some experimenting, you should try it .. it works
>>61839968
$vimtutor, it's all you need to know
>>61839968
/g/ doesn't know emacs, this is a vim board
>>61839968
You just learn as you go. Both editors have a manual.

I followed the Emacs tutorial, read up on org-mode, magit, and the packages for the languages I use.
Then I just used it.
Either Vim or Emacs are definitely worth your time. Keep at it.
tried to give a emacs a try, but vim is much easier to pick up and go.
still working on plugins and such, but i like it for normal usage.

I learned how to use vim while doing projects in C, may as well kill two birds with one stone and learn C while you are at it. Do a couple projects in C and you will learn C, GCC, GBD, Valgrind, and VIM in no time.
>>61839968
>did vimtutor
>learned more in daily use
>installed emacs with evil-mode
>use vim on emacs now
haven't noticed any major differences
It's not that hard desu, just learn as you go and try to make use of editor features to do stuff. Eventually you'll be able to let the editor do a lot of the annoying repetitive stuff for you while you focus on tasks, and it's generally done in a way that you'll have an idea of how the editor is doing it, which makes it easy to use it for different kinds of things without worrying about it accidentally fucking things up; I have yet to have this peace of mind in any IDE.
Vim's keys are the most powerful and fun to use. Emacs is a bit obtuse, but its extension library is legendary, so I use it with Vim keys and various other garbage.

by using it

Emacs has a built in tutorial. Also the key combos make sense based on their function names. M-x for execute command C-x C-s execute save, C-n dowN C-p uP C-f Forward C-b Back.
