What does /g/ think of Brave?

I saw it on /pol/ recently and don't know how to feel about it.

Slow as fuck but has a lot of potential.

Which distro are you using? Debian works fine for me.
>>
Garbage one-sided 'compromise' with advertising scum.
ZERO TOLERANCE.
IceCat + Privacy addons are superior in every way.
>>
>>61837083
I heard Mozilla was cucked too
>>
>>61837028
Why would I use it when I can just block all ads?
>>
>>61837062
OpenBSD for my server / laptop and Fedora for shit that doesn't run on BSD.
>>
Are you a right wing retard?

Does the browser you're currently using hurt your feelings?

Try Brave today!
>>
>>61837104
Anon has a point. However, what would you recommend? FF is only just now recovering with the cis white male in charge of dev. Waterfox? Something else?
>>

I just compile my own Chromium
>>
>>61837161
GNU IceCat or a de-googled Chromium are your freest options.
>>
>>61837178
Used to do that when I was still on FreeBSD. Took half a day, but was worth it.

Somehow my laziness and getting a job got a hold of me. I settled for OpenBSD, which has excellent up-to-date packages.
>>
>doesn't let me block site elements on demand

fucking dropped
>>
I use it on mobile because fast and no-nonsense.
>>
>>61837308
No ads either.
>>
>>61837236
I have it build on my server and push the finished product to my laptop, so the build time isn't very painful. It would take about 30 hours to build on my laptop if I tried doing that
>>
Will someone add Brave to the installgentoo wiki?
>>
>>61837028
Been using it, works fine and I haven't experienced any slowness. However I've been having a some trouble copy and pasting in it for some reason and also the tab icon of a website often won't update. That's it really, everything works great otherwise.
>>
>>61837308
It's garbage on mobile, or at least iOS.

Seems decent enough on browser.

shitty chrome clone with a shitty adblocker integrated. it's bad on phones and it's even worse on desktop.

How ridiculous they are aside, they literally blacklist people for wrongthink.
>>
>>61841506
right, but firefox with extensions is way better than brave right now if you're looking for the objectively best browser that isn't chrome. if you're motivated for political reasons and can't do firefox either, use brave i guess.

Firefox is actually defaulting to 64-bit on Windows now, since non-Flash plugins are dead and Flash has a hard EOL in under three years. FF57 is a major rewrite/overhaul with a lot of performance and security plugins.
>>
>>61841534
GNU Icecat is Firefox ESR with extra privacy and no progressive nagware on the start page.

REEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>61837028
Just started using desktop last night, phone for a while.

Phone gripes: the lack of Google syncing is sucky ATM. Though it's a nice kind of spring cleaning, making me reevaluate what sites/passwords I actually need.

Desktop, the adblocking is effective enough but not as good as ublock origin. You can add your own filters but not filter lists. Also the extensions that come with which can't be conventionally removed is uncool. Definitely don't care to have Pinterest aito-added to my extensions.
>>

The god of Abraham is cancer no matter what larp you build around it.
The state shouldn't even recognize marriage at all much less offer them gibs, let alone demand I offer them gibs. Keep your larp in your larp house.

I'd rather use FF Nightly for technical merits.

Give actual good browser suggestions though.

No brave, it's just a retarded chrome.
No opera, chink spyware
No chrome, google
No firefox, mozilla
No OS-limited browsers like safari and edge (although they're nice from what I've seen)
>>
>>61842728
i, too, would like to know.

what's your opinion on vivaldi, or the firefox variations (icecat, etc)?
>>
>>61842728
Lynx
>>
>>61842822
I used to like what I've seen from vivaldi. But feature creep is absolutely real, and not something browsers should ever succumb to.
Firefox variations are much better than the chromium-based browsers, but majority of them don't actually deal with Firefox's problems and instead are just trying to fulfill a very niche group of legacy firefox users. Which also stumbles into another problem, very few of them have the resources to then also develop a mobile platform.

>>
I bought their Basic Attention Token (BAT) a few days ago. I think it's an attempt to compromise on online advertising.
If you don't like ads, just turn on the adblocker and enjoy your clean browsing experience. But if you want to support specific sites you can use the BAT system to give them revenue.
If I read their paper correctly you can also earn BAT for enabling ads, which can be traded for Ether or Bitcoin in the exchanges.
>>
>>61842921
I never liked the chrome/chromium based browsers until I tried vivaldi. It's now my browser. I dont like the lack of a drop down bookmark menu or go button but I'm learning to deal. I do agree with the feature creep.

That's the whole reason for the ungoogled project.

Sadly it was a short lived project without proper funding or a dev team.(university student project)

Wasnt brave the browser with the hardcoded adware ? Why would i install such a piece of shit
>>
>>61845614
No, the dev team is going with a retarded "only approved extensions" policy, and they've approved something like ten so far. When pressed, they point people to a page telling you to compile the browser yourself with your extensions added to the list. At one point Eich said he wanted to add userscript support, though, so it's supposedly planned.

I stopped using it because it's broken af.
Bookmarked folders do not register the first selection because of some conflict with the tabs bar.
First couple of tabs open will randomly become unresponsive/unable to close.
Shut down if too many tabs are open.
Honestly I wanted to try it longer, but this is just too much bullshit. Also, hearing that the CEO plans to monetize data once they get 7mil users is a dealbreaker. Back to using my autistic Pale Moon.
