With Intel moving away from bing bus and IPC looking like it'll not increase significantly any time soon, is the 7700K going to be the last good gaming CPU ever?

Coffee Lake S is using the same old ringbus and cache. It's not going to be a disaster like Skylake-X. Hopefully.

Skylake-X is going to be shit forever, too. Can't fix that mesh and cache changes won't ever be optimized for.

You have the ability to see into the future and all you use it for to shitpost on your favourite Chinese cartoon website? Pathetic

It'll get optimised for because ringbus is shit for scale-ability and the monolithic die meme is dead

I was going off of this where Piledriver gets massacred at stock. And of course the 2500K is the overclocking king so that wouldn't help FX.

Also GameGPU is generally an unreliable site, at least for newer games. There are numerous examples of newer games where their benchmarks were vastly different than every other reviewer.

HEDT has always been a scam since the motherboards are rarer and therefore more expensive even as the platform gets older. Also people tend to keep them longer probably, it's why the market is being flooded with LGA 1366 mobos now. Good luck trying to find X79 or first gen 2011 boards at a decent price in good condition. Threadripper will be just as bad.

Any game older than 3 years - it wont matter, any modern cpu is good enough. Any brand new games will be developed with multithreading in mind, especially now that Intel is going moar coares too.

So basically you just have this awkward small group of games where the 7700k is better.

There's usually more motherboard leaks before a launch. If they're releasing this soon it means it's rushed way too soon, also mobo manufacturers will be unhappy because they can't sell remaining Z270 stock due to it not being compatible with CL. This would be a bigger disaster than Skylake-X

The 8700K is literally just a 7700K with six cores. None of the bingmesh and cache changes for Skylake-X. We've already seen leaks of it overclocked to 5GHz. Even the 7800X overclocks to 4.8GHz, and that has several disadvantages in design dragging it down, since the changes made increased heat and power draw. Changes that the 8700K won't have. There's literally no reason to think that it won't be around the same as the 7700K in terms of overclocking ability.

It's going to be the best gaming CPU on the market bar none, with all the single thread performance and 50% more cores, so not a stuttering piece of trash as soon as you start doing anything in the background.
>>
>>61801838
it is obviously rushed. ryzen is on a roll. intel is trying to halt it. I'm expecting expensive cpus.
>>
>>61801922

>>
>>61801922
>six cores
Dunno man 6850k is kinda shit
7800X is also shit
>>
>>61802021
The 6850K is shit because Broadwell is a bad architecture. The four core parts didn't overclock for shit either. The 7800X has poor gaming performance due to the aforementioned changes, which the 8700K won't have. But Skylake-X is a very good overclocker, when you can keep that increased power draw under control.
>>
>>61796070
>for shitter games that run on a single thread, yeah, it is.
Then absolutly none. Your post makes no sense in 2017.
You're talking like we're still in 2004
>>
>>61801922
Hitting an eng.sample at 5 GHz doesn't mean a whole lot when most 7700K's couldn't even hit 5 GHz, and they are better binned for high clockspeeds.
>>
>>61802374
>and they are better binned for high clockspeeds

As you're clearly an Intel insider, please explain the difference in the binning process between the 7700K and 8700K.
>>
>>61796145
Pun intended?
>>61796070
This. Any game not heavily multithreaded is either doomed, or more realistically can run fine on any cheap ryzen part. Single threaded performance will always be important but now there is more merit in how many cores you can jam in there. "gaming" CPUS haven't been a thing for like 5 years. A 2500k is good enough.

Industry insider here
Theres a reason Ryzen and Threadripper have amazing price/performance: AMD cut corners wherever they could. By Q3 2018 35%+ of Ryzen CPUs will be dead. With Vega flopping HARD AMD will not have the resources to honor the warranties. AMD will release no new products in 2018. By 2019 AMD will file for bankruptcy.
Expect shareholders to dump AMD stock as soon as Vega releases. Insiders know this. How? They orchestrated it. After Bulldozer major shareholders and insiders knew AMD wasn't going to survive the decade. Nvidia's AI play is poised to leave AMD in the dust.
Lisa Su's sole purpose at AMD was to give these majority shareholders an easy way to cash out of a dead company. She did exactly that. On Su's first day as CEO, she went to the GPU engineers and told them there was only word that should be in their head: cryptomining. Optimizing their GPUs for mining gave AMD the extra time/money they needed to throw together the biggest tech scam of the 21st century: Ryzen.
Lisa Su is a mastermind, however, after the Federal investigations in 2020, she will never work in tech again.

This pasta sure is stale already.
>>
>>61802648
Pentium G4560 literally can't take advantage of anything higher than a 1060 before it bottlenecks 100% of the time. DF did tests at 4k with the Titan and it stutters like crazy even if the average framerate is high. It's not meant for high end gaming, it's meant for 1080p and a midrange GPU.
>>
>>61802441
1.4V+ was perfectly fine on air with Skylake.

>>61802443
No, you're just an ill-informed moron spouting your """""expert""""" opinion based on nothing. The 7800X is already hitting similar speeds to the 7700K. You can buy pre-binned 4.9GHz ones from several retailers, with 4.8GHz being an achievable figure on all of them. This is despite all the disadvantages it has in terms of achitecture (and so heat and power draw), which the 8700K won't have. 7800X clock speeds are a baseline for the 8700K, with more extremely likely.

Time to take your head out of the sand and pay attention to what's happening around you, anon. Near-5GHz hexa cores are happening right now.

>Any game older than 3 years - it wont matter, any modern cpu is good enough
Getting pretty tired of this meme, go download Company of Heroes (2006), install the FOV unlocker and try to get more than 40FPS with the map zoomed even half the way out. There are a billion demanding titles out there that are still heavily CPU bound. I've got a 1080Ti and still get shit framerate in games like Skyrim, Civ 5, Red Orchestra 2 etc.

>>61796024
No, 8700K is probably going to surpass it, especially in the future when games are going to use more and more cores. It's the same shit with 2 extra cores, if Intel manages to make it decent enough to hit the same clocks, it will be straight-up superior.
>>
>>61803893
Yeah, i7s don't.
>>
>>61804273
A lot of it is the iPhone effect. Before Ryzen, everyone said i5's were good for gaming, and i7's great. Now you have those same people saying i5's are unplayable and even i7's are bad at games. It's just like how people are happy with their iPhone until a new one comes out, and suddenly your phone is way too slow and you just have to upgrade. People who were previously happy with their hardware suddenly hate it because something better is out.
>>
>>61803677
What the hell is the point of spending $500+ on any of the 4 core Intel processors right now if you still have an Ivy Bridge or later platform? Even if you are using something old as shit like a 3960X it's still a top tier processor, the market has been so stagnant.
