I work for a large tech company that has been pretty influential on some left political ideas, and rightfully so in most cases where laws were passed that actively discriminate against sexual orientation. However, I agree with the paper author 100% and i believe that he didn't say anything racist or sexist. The company I work for does the same stuff. There are special programs for women and minorities (really black only programs). A huge initiative that identifies under paid women and just gives them a pay raise (they have said that men have had their pay fixed too, but the program is specifically targeting women). For the curious what they'll do is sit you down at a computer and tell you to put your fingers on the F and J keys, and then they'll tell you to press F whenever either a picture of a white person or a word that's "good" flashes on screen and press J when a picture of a black person or a "bad" word flashes on screen. After a trial of that they'll switch it around to pressing F when a picture of a black person or a good word flashes and so on. These tests come in a thousand different forms but they're all essentially the same.
