Can confirm Germans are based. Used DT880s and DT990s for years now. Easy to replace cups, easy to replace drivers, comfy as fuck and aesthetic. Only flaw was expensive (for me) and highs a little too high for my liking.

I use K702's but I don't know how the HD 555's sound so I can't tell you if they're better. The problem I have with 702's though is that you might get a bad cord that has a loose connection, which is what happened to me. Makes me think that they aren't really as great of quality as is touted.

I've been using AKG on-ears for over a decade now, K26P, K404p, K414p, and currently the K450. They were all great, albeit with some design flaws that make them wear out in 1-2 years.

Their Y40 is an utter fucking joke though, stay away from that. I had a Y40 and a K450 compared side to side a few months back, and the Y40 has complete ass sound quality.

Their higher-end headphones may be better, I dunno.
