So far, I've spent upwards of $350 on mechanical keyboards. But then, I got a ThinkPad with the modern fag keyboard and it turns out, I actually prefer its scissors switches to the mechanicals I have.

I've tried Gateron Blues, Gateron Reds, Cherrry Blues, Cherry Reds, Cherry Browns, Outemu Blues. But at the end of the day, I just want to type on my chinkpad keyboard which you can pick up for literally $50 or less.

Explain this meme, /g/.
>>
Try HHK first then let's talk.
>>
yes, it is just an overpriced consumerist meme
>buy my key caps!
>buy my LED's!

the retards just eat it up and try to convince other people they are the greatest thing ever

I bought 3 microsoft comfort curve 2000s like 5 years ago. I will never buy another keyboard.
>>
>>61779722

The cherry boards are a meme, and the Topre boards are good but overprices.

I type fastest of on my x230 but the hands start to hurt near the end of the day; pain I don't get on my Topre. Honestly though, I'd be happy with a Microsoft keyboard or an old Dell.

>I got a ThinkPad with the modern fag keyboard and it turns out, I actually prefer its scissors switches to the mechanicals I have
Fucking this. I noticed I always prefer my thinkpad if I have to type for a longer period of time.

On top of that mechanicals are loud as a motherfucker. Autists say it's >muh feel or >muh clickyness, but I just find it annoying.
>>
>>61779927
Literally this. No mechanical keyboard I've ever used comes close to the feel and comfiness of a ThinkPad keyboard, whether it's the classic or the modern one. Someone convince me that Topre can actually beat this. Might actually sell all my mechs to cut my losses.

honestly i prefer typing on my t430 keyboard to my mechanical keyboard but as far as desktop keyboards go i prefer to have a mechanical keyboard or if it has to be a rubber dome i'd want an old dell keyboard

Try find one of these somewhere? They look pretty damn comfy.

Big time meme. I had to do some online exams for work on their computers and they had these cheapo HP rubber dome keyboards. It was like typing on a cloud. My wpm and accuracy were way up. I'm going to sell my Filco and order one of these from Amazon. 12 bucks!
>>
>>61779722
You asked the same fucking question in /mkg/ 3 minutes before making this unnecessary thread. If you have to ask random people why you have a natural preference to something beyond their control, you may have autism. Kys yourself to death, fagtron.
>>
>>61781149
/mkg/ is obviously going to be incredibly biased since they are finacially and emotionally investing in mechanicals.
>>
>>61781123
Been using a 10 buck HP rubberdome for six years.
It's fucking perfect.
>>

is this a meme?

>I can't deal with people having critical discussion of my precious $700 worth of computer keyboards, the post
sucks to be that autistically insecure about your purchase
>>
I also feel it's fucking bullshit desu.
As long as the keys are reliable and consistent enough, it's just fine.

See >>61781175. There's obviously going to be selection bias with the /mkg/ demographic. Use your brain you fucking muppet. Being this defensive and offended by critical discussion about keyboards of all things is literally a sign of autism.
>>
Buy good ones because they last a long time and are durable. The communities are a meme, not the keyboards. I had a shotty chunk xarmor from like 2011 until just a month ago when I spilled my drink on it. After cleaning it still works like new but I bought a ducky to replace it and it's a backup now
>>
Yeah, I honestly felt a bit duped into it. While mechanical keyboards surely feels good, more compact layouts to choose, and seems more sturdy/durable than the membrane counterpart, it doesn't really justify much ($65: Masterkeys Pro M) than just spending $10 on a normal membrane keyboard that's good enough (ex: Logitech K120).

It's your fault for spending like a retard.

The only keyboards with a right to exist are the Microsoft ergonomic keyboards, Kinesis Advantage and Ergodox.

The money is not the problem. The only reason why I made this thread is to get a discussion going without /mkg/'s selection bias, which is exactly what I go. The only whining I see is mechfags going into full defence mode.
>>
>>61781956
what do you want to discuss though?
you enjoy the feel of your chinkpad keyboard
very well so what?
you wanted the meme explained?
the answer is simple personal preference

Mechanical are more durable and will last longer.

Rubber dome keyboards break frequently and the keys require variable force to register inputs which will only increase over time.

The rubber domes at my work are legit shit for registering inputs when typing fast. I constantly have to edit keystrokes due to the keys simply not registering the input unless you press it completely until it's flush with the board.

This is simply not the case with a mechanical.

As far as I am aware most rubber dome come in ABS plastic, while with mechanical you can choose different caps depending on what kind of texture you want. For instance I would argue PBT keycaps are objectionably better due to their coarse texture therefore more friction for gaming/typing.

It's simple really though, they register inputs more reliably and with less travel time.

They're more durable and they feel good.
>>
>>61779927
I have an x230 and a Steelseries 6Gv2. While the feel is somewhat better on the x230, I'm more prone to errors on it and it causes more strain longterm. Also I can't punch it like I regularly do with my 6Gv2
>>
>>61779722
I use a thinkpad keyboard for my desktop as well.
It is so much better to have the consistency.

I can confirm this. HP rubber domes are all you will need for years. I was using my old compaq rubber keyboard and it broke after 8-9 years. I picked up a HP rubber dome and it's fucking perfect.

>>61781992
>Rubber dome keyboards break frequently
The fuck do you do with yours? I've only had my rubber dome keyboards break after a huge period of time. The least a keyboard has lasted me is 6 years.
>>
Since OP just wanted a memewar, does anyone have a recommendation for switches as good as a thinkpad?
>>
>>61782137
6 years is chump change compared to how long mechanicals last
>>
>>61781577
I use a rubber dome that I got for 2 quid at a boot sale. Nice implying implications.

>>61781632
Where was I assblasted about keybords? I stated that OP didn't have to make an entire thread when he already asked in another. Maybe you should see a doctor.
>>
>>61782481
Likewise to you, you should sort out that reading comprehension.
>>
>>61779927
Try blacks. No click, just the nice smooth feel of typing.
>>
>>61782589
>blacks

Enjoy your sandpaper feel
>>
t530 keyboard rn

press feel is the same as older style tp keyboards, the only real difference is layout and how easy it is to find the centers of keys with your fingers

probably my favorite mobile keyboards
>>
>>61782607
fuck you talking about? never used blacks before?
>>
>>61782607
Browns if anything feel like sandpaper, not blacks. Blacks are linear switches but with more force required than reds and they're amazing.
>>
Yes, absolutely. I regret spending money on this meme.
>>
>>61782646
>>61782671
Old molds the new blacks are all scratchy
>>
>>61779722
u didnt fall for a meme once but twice
stop sucking dicks op
>>
It does not provide any objective benefits, but some people do prefer the feel. It's up to you, if you like them then use them, otherwise don't.
>>
>>61782137
>6 years lol. Why bother wasting with keyboards you'll have to replace.

Get Mk and type on the same keyboard for the rest of your life if you so wish. Never having to relearn another board again and continuing to define your keystrokes
>>
>>61783188
Wrong
>>
>>61783365
I got my membrane keyboard for $15 like 8 or 9 years ago, still works like new, even though keycaps are a bit worn out in some places. Granted, I had to get a PS2->USB adapter for it, but that's not that expensive.

How much was your mechanical keyboard?
>>
>>61783538
About 90$ , and the keys are not even remotely worn out yet. I also got it 8-9 years ago.

I expect it to last my life time.
>>
Mechanical keyboards as a hobby is a meme. I'm happy with my chinkboard and aftermarket caps that I bought to replace my broken rubberdome. The keyboard was $45 leafbucks, and the caps were $40. I'll admit the caps were not really necessary, but I don't really spend money often anyways. No desire to get anything more expensive or start collecting keyboards.
>>
>>61783538
They don't put PS2 connections on PCs anymore?

Oh my lord
>>
>>61784303
Some boards have them, but most don't
>>
>>61781789
Holy shit I have literally been right here! It's in Hong Kong.

>tfw Chinese girls wanted to get their pic with me
