Are these keyboards all interchangeable?
L430 T430 T430S X230 W530 T530
Asking because I want to order one from China and I've never owned a T series so I don't know if the seller is lying or not. That's a really excellent feature if true that you can take the keyboard from a T430/T530/W530 and drop it straight into an X230.

Arw is the new thinkpads not waterproof? I poured a basket of water over my t470 and it shut off and let out some of that blue smoke... funky smell. I tried turning it on and it wont come on. How to dry it?

Well if you want maximum ThinkPad quality you're out of luck because few of the old IBM models are usable as a daily driver today.

If you can't get an X220 but you want 12" either get an X200 for muh freedom or an X230 for a more modern approach.
If you're OK with 14" get a T400 for muh freedom or a T430 if you want int modern.
The T420 is OK too but both the 1366x768 and the 1600x900 screen are dog shit even by ThinkPad standards.

I have a t430 and CSGO and dota run ok. Dota is almost always 60 but CS can drop into the 40s sometimes. This is with the integrated graphics, with the nvidia dedicated I'd expect both would be solid 60 at above minimum.

I installed W8.1 on my T420 recently. I've never used this piece of shit OS before (meaning 8.1, not Windows in general of course).

I took apart my T420 and my trackpad and the left and right click buttons no longer work. However, the upper UltraNav keys still work.

I might have just not plugged the connection cable in right, but why would the UltraNav keys still work? I'm worried that I damaged it somehow when I was cleaning it.

yeah it's a pretty narrow ribbon cable close to the underside of the touchpad...not sure where it is exactly on the T420 but that's where it is on my T430 and I'd assume it'd be similar.

The iGPU heatsink for my T520 has a pulsing sound from the fan (every few seconds the fan has a burst of higher RPM basically) and the brand new dGPU heatsink I ordered as a replacement has an incredibly disconcerting clicking or arcing sound when you hold the laptop closer to vertical (it almost sounds like the fan blades are rubbing against the copper fins, but it's too light and sporadic to be something that violently mechanically awry).

I may just try transplanting the dGPU fan into the iGPU heatsink. Why do I have the worst luck with thinkpads bros?

I fixed up my old x230t. all it needed was a new motherboard (bought one labeled as an i5 but got an i7 model instead). I have a latitude with a 1080p display which will now sit on my desk since it is bigger and heavier than this.

not sure. The tablet screens have the wacom digitizer part so I think you are stuck with the 1366x768 screen. It's not that bad on a 12.5 inch screen and the wacom digitizer is worth it imo esp if you do a lot of work dealing with numbers (great scratchpad for homework) or for quick paintings/drawings

You just have select dgpu only or something similar to that so you system bypasses Optimus and directly uses your dgpu

To expand a bit more (just in case you don't know or to help some other anon)
How Optimus works is by writing into your igpus framebuffer which is only limited to 60 hz
There is an option to disable this and just use the framebuffer of your dgpu which doesn't have the same limitations but I forgot what it was called

I got my Thinkpad T420 today. This is the first Thinkpad I have ever owned and I must say I am already impressed with the keyboard. I used to shitpost in these threads because I just couldn't believe there were any good laptops for typing and whatnot. Not only is typing comfortable but the laptop just seems well designed. I took out the T60p WLAN card, it has 2 holes at the top for 2 cables, but the X61 has 3 holes for 3 cables (a grey, white, and black one), and also the screw that holds it in place is completely stripped, no luck opening it.

I paid 35€ for mine from a company that was getting rid of their old laptops. They were nice enough to put a new SSD in it for me, probably worth more than the 35€ I paid.

The screen is broken because I closed the lid with an earbud on the keyboard, totally my fault and honestly I'm surprise it lasted this long because I didn't really take care of it.

What I like about it:

>durable (dropped it many times)
>trackpoint

What I hate about it:

Other considerations: the hinges are decent, but still not completely stiff, the screen can be moved back and forth a bit. Feels and looks plastic, not 'premium'. Maximum memory it can hold is 8Gb. No USB3.0.

For $180 I'd say look for a T430 as it has a higher screen resolution, better processor and can hold more memory, as well as more than one USB port (and USB3.0). Having used the e6320 for over 9 months I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it. It simply doesn't age well. In fact, I wouldn't buy one at all and my smashing the screen accidentally was a lucky break and a chance to finally buy a T430.

found an X200t for 65€, should I bite? It's in a really nice condition too. I already have a T430 and this could be a nice addition after installing 8GB of RAM, so I could also take notes and draw a little bit. the only thing holding me back is my autism that bothers me with the CPU clock speed (L9400 is 1.86ghz on both cores), can I get it to 2ghz somehow or is it impossible?
