Which one is the best DE?
>>
i3wm
>>
The only good DE is not having one at all
>>
tmux
>>
>>61769155
I love XFCE. is lightweight, modular, easily configurable, sane defaults It's the perfect DE
>>
> not running your programs on bare metal
>>
Gnome on a desktop with good specs. Unfortunately. It's bloated I suppose but it just werkz. Xfce takes time to tweak

On a laptop, xfce , openbox, or i3 depending on specs. Dunno if i3 is the best tiling wm but it's the only one I've tried and it works great on my low res Pentium m machine. Sane defaults
>>
>>61769155
Aqua
>>
>>61769619
i only use blazing fast bare metal (no jquery) javascript
>>
I kinda like budgie
>>
>>61769642
I used Gnome on desktop for a while, it's alright, I could not get over the fucking huge title bars though. Who made that fucking decision?
>>
I use LXDE for the sole reason that it's faster than configuring openbox on my own.
>>
>>61769891

Install a theme with smaller title bars.
If you use any other DE you will have to change at least that much to make it not shit, except perhaps cinnamon.
>>
>>61769969
Eh, I'm happy with XFCE and found it more intuative when making adjustments.
>>
>>61769155
Windows 7
>>
>>61769891
It makes sense if you consider laptops with touch screens - the titlebars are just big enough so you could easily move windows with a finger.
>>
i3

KDE, XFCE

GNOME, LXDE

Windows 7 isn't a DE.

Ubuntu isn't a DE.

Literally this.
LXDE + openbox is god tier
>>
KDE for modern hardware, XFCE for older hardware or shitty computers

KDE if your computer was made in this decade, XFCE if it was made the decade before.

This is the only correct way to use XFCE
>>
>>61769155
Cinnamon is surprisingly good.
>>
>>61770774
just impressive, im jealous
>>
>>61770821
It's not hard to set up, I just grabbed a picture from Google

https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95
>>
>>61770292
In that case you use unity
>>
KDE if you have a beefy computer.
Xfce otherwise.
>>
A PC's capability and an anon's choice of DE are not related. Saying XFCE is only acceptable over KDE on toasters is as stupid as the claim that Windows 9x/2K's look is only superior to Windows 10 Metro on old PCs. It's complete bullshit. Also did KDE ever get their file tagging system working? I think it's called Baloo.

Cinnamon

who tried Deepin DE on a non deepin distro?

Not quite but its a work in progress. I can never get used to have the taskbar on the bottom. I feel like there is something unorthodox about using windows logos on linux.
>>
>>61769393
Maybe we shouldnt call our wm a de ?
>>

I like plasma when it works

wow no way
>>
>>61773069
I'm running it on Arch. Most oft the time it's pretty good. One oft the best looking DEs in my opinion with everything I need. The side panel is sometimes a bit buggy, but you barely need it. Some of the Deepin Apps are wortha try, especially the smaller one, for example ImageViewer, Screenshot and Terminal. The FileManager is garbage, avoid at all cost. Recently they somehow broke Network manager, so that I couldn't log into new networks. Took them one week for a fix. This was the second time something broke due to Deepin in the last 1,5 years (You can blame Arch, but these were the only two crashes) In that time I mostly used Cinnamon.
tl;Dr: Really good DE but unstable on Arch
>>
>>61774001
Slap i3wm on anything pretty much

XFCE is a pretty great combination of lightweight, modularity, features, customizability, and intuitive control
>>
fluxbox
>>
>>61775891
>its archs fault that a program is unstable
>>
>>61769642
Gnome works great on my dad's latop, I have a dedicated Debian partition, with minimum ricing and it's very good. I use XFCE though, can't stand how bloated Gnome gets after a while.
>>
>>61775891
Thanks for laying it out. I'll probably try it with manjaro and my desktop will be a sexy little bitch.
>>
>>61770292
Ubuntu is the OS not the DE, if you just searched the most basic Ubuntu there is, chances are you use Unity
>>
Best support? Gnome/Cinnamon tho I wouldnt use these without replacing the wm.
>>
I would say LXDE and Mate are my favourites. Cinnamon and XFCE are fine too.

KDE and GNOME just feel bloated to me. Bloated to the point where I prefered to use Unity over either.
>>
>>61776261
Unity is literally a GNOME skin.
>>
>>61776380
Neither really feel productive.
>>
>>61776437
>desktop environment needs to be productive
Wut?
>>
>>61770757
Because I'm German and herbstluftwm is the most retarded name since "i"+something.
>>
>>61769155
KDE
>>
Unironicly kde/plasma
>>
>>61776062
It's not directly Archs fault, but since on Arch you get your packages immediately you're kind of an beta tester to some developers. On Manjaro for example these problems probably wouldn't have occured, because you get updates later
>>
>>61769837
same
>>
>>61769155
what the fuck is with freetards and using transparent backgrounds that makes viewing the image harder?
>>
>>61769155
Seeing as KDE is the only one that doesn't use GTK+, KDE is the best.
>>
>>61769155
Gnome and XFCE, Mate is kinda good tho.
>>
Budgie.
