Noticed that the Custom Studios are cheaper than the Pro Plus so get that instead:
https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-Custom-Studio-Beyerdynamic-Headphones/dp/B00OAR8VUA

It's based off the DT 770 Pro, widely regarded as one of the best V-shaped closed backs you can get for under $200.

Better sound & build quality than the M50x, along with vastly superior comfort.

I break IEMs all the time. Even higher quality ones that cost US$60 or so. After 4-6 months one (or both) of the earpieces will usually stop working.
I figure this is just the case for me, and doesn't happen to others. How does everyone take care of their earphones so they don't break?
>>
>>61762365
It's usually the cable that breaks. Consider the kz zs5 which have a detachable cable you can replace.
>>
>>61762257

>>
>>61762365
I break 'em all the time so can't bring myself to spend any money. Current pair is $20 skullcandy and vry happy with bass on rkbx clip+.
>>
>>61762365
Put them in a case after you use them.
>>
>>61762098
Maybe the NVX XPT100/Brainwavz HM5.
Other options:
Audio Technica MSR7, compact and flat bass.
Beyer DT770 and Custom One, larger sets with more than a little bass boost. Custom One has a slider that offers some flexibility with the bass level.

Follow-up question:
I have a suspicion that the most damaging thing I do the my earphones is that I wrap them around my phone and store them like that in (relatively) tight jeans pockets.
Is this likely to be what breaks them? If so, how should I carry them on my person so as not to break them?
>>
>>61762529
Buy a small velvet pouch or hardshell case, wrap them lightly around the palm of your hand and store them in it.

tl;dr: Should I spend $300+ on an Ety 4?
Are these things really as good as they seem? I mean the only thing I can find that can compete is either a $300000 huge over ear headphone or speakers.
Is there some horrible flaw? Are they super uncomfortable? Fragile?
I've always prefered over ear headphones, even as a kid, but now in my mid 20s im starting to really appreciate the isolation an IEM offers.
>>
>>61762837
Probably the best for portable accuracy. Warranty and detachable cable means theyll last a few years. That being said they're uncomfortable ear dildos with stock tips. If you're buying then, make sure you invest in comply ear tips or similar for comfort.
>>
>>61762869
Is it really worth the $350 though? For that price I could buy a $100 ety, the triple driver 1more iem, and a se215.
Have you ever actually heard them?
>>
>>61762928
I own the er4xr. They're pretty good, and the model I bought has a bass bump which comes in handy for certain genres.

Here's the thing, I understand getting cheaper but decent iems but purchasing a bunch of mid-fi iems is pointless if you were willing to get the etys. If you haven't heard etymotic stuff before, go for their lower end stuff first such as the hf5 and see if you enjoy the sound signature before dropping big bucks on the er-4s or er-4xr. The lower end stuff from them sounds very similar, but a little less refined.

I can spend $499 with shipping and tax on amazon and I already have a portable and desktop source.
It's really tempting to do something like pic related(I would choose the actual IEMs much more carefuly) so I have a variety.
I was just looking at the cheaper ety's on amazon and they all have horrible reviews outside of the er4sr/xr. Mostly citing build quality.

sony mdr v55. I find these very comfy (I can wear them all day) and the sound quality is good enough for me. I'm just looking for something with equal sound but wireless. I'm tired of using an extension cable for my headphones so I can move around my room, wires always getting caught on shit and I want to be able to roam the whole house while listening. Not using outside.

pls help. currently looking at Cowin E-7 (looks like a gamble if they're shit or not), was looking at sony mdr zx330BT and XB650BT but they are both on ear and not very comfy for long periods I would guess

Basically a "better than lossless" format that's actually lossy that goes through hardware specific filters to sound louder than regular file formats and uses a drm method to prevent pirating. Its an attempt by the music industry to force people to purchase their music all over again and buy new playback hardware to use it.

>Abacus Cbox looks like it gets that bass response electronically. That can applied to any other loudspeaker. Maximum output is still given by mechanical driver limits. Since the driver and cabinet are small, this also means that total sound pressure and loudness will be limited.
Thats right, as far as I read about it they got to that bass using closed structure and compensating roll off with an amp boost at the cost of SPL. Hoverer why other manufacturers like Genelec don't do that, or I can just manually boost Genelecs to the same result? C-box not going loud is not problem for me since max I will be living in a single flat, not a house so I am going for a desktop use and it's size and them going to 30kHz, so I can skip on subwoffer in a way, is a win for me.

>The wiggles in the low end are room effects. Dips and peaks in the low frequency come down to how you place them.
>The recommendations I would give tend to revolve more around directivity control, since that is the essential part that cannot be equalized. I'll try to come up with more in the next thread.
Thanks for the explanation, looks like they do go down deep as stated but they probably won't 'pump' out bass due to limiter pressure. By directivity control you mean things like wave guides and horn speakers? C-box has a wave guide on it's tweeter, looks to be that one:

So is a lossy format.
DRM? Good luck with that.
The next MP3 is going to be AAC and it will last 20 years(like mp3 did) not some meme codec with drm.
Opus is going to be the main codec for streaming/web usage and AAC for lossy music distribution.

Monoprice 8023 - Sounded Ok I guess, comfortable enough. Never used them for gaming. Plastic snapped after about a year of use.

Hello, does anyone know if there are any noticeable differences between the ath-ad500x, 700x, and 900x? I searched google and couldn't find much besides people saying they had more soundstage the further you went up, or that they were the exact same. Any upgrade in build quality like what we see from the 900x to 1000x? Thanks.
>>
Is there any difference between Grado SR60i and SR60e models?
>>
>>61765888
I admit that the build quality is weak, especially the plastic. However, anyone who owns expensive headphones should know how to handle them without breaking them like a fucking retard. They're open headphones designed for home use. Put them on a fucking headphone stand and nothing will happen to them. Besides that, they sound amazing and the treble doesn't sound recessed at all. Nearly every other 'good' headphone has harsh highs when it comes to female vocals, and sometimes they actually hurt. The 600 sounds amazing in comparison. They also have a narrow sound stage compared to akgs for example but it literally doesn't matter when the music sounds more accurate and enjoyable than practically everything else.

To what extent do confirmation bias and the placebo effect have on the perceived sound quality of a headphone? Like if you took the drivers from Superlux 681s and put them in an AKG K702 frame, would the average person be able to tell the difference? Is the human ear even sensitive enough to pick up the differences?

Would be interesting to have blind listening tests with headphones desu, like blind taste tests with wine.

THD measurements are not a reliable indicator of audibility:
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_I.pdf
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_II.pdf
> In our next paper we will show that .01% THD of one type of nonlinear system can be perceived as unacceptable while 10% THD in another example is perceived as inaudible. Even one of these simple examples is sufficient to invalidate THD as a viable metric for discussion of the perception of distortion. Furthermore, 1% THD is not at all the same as 1% IM, but we will show that neither correlates with subjective perception.
>These results supported the skepticism that THD and IMD metrics were poor predictor of subjective perception of sound quality ratings.

>low frequency EQ
Genelec does use electronics to improve bass extension on some models, particularly the coaxial ones. Neumann does it with at least 310 and 420, JBL does it with the DSP models.
I noticed a bit late the C-box is closed. With a ported system, it's generally not a great idea to make large boosts far below the bass driver's primary resonance. Tends to promote excess driver displacement. Most of the pro-audio monitors tend to go with ported systems, and they are generally not as aggressive with using low frequency electronic adjustments.
>XT25SC
This is an old model, but I guess it works. The tweeter has more of what might be called a phase plug instead of a waveguide.
Practically speaking, waveguides are just horns with a particular shape. A waveguide is the most obvious method to control the sound radiation pattern. There are other arrangements to get a smooth directivity, D'appolito style arrangements and arrays for instance. Not that they would go into something compact.

Not really fair to just put the drivers of a Superlux in an AKG though, as the drivers aren't the only thing affecting the sound. Hard to do blind testing if you can tell right away what the earpads are, never mind the earpads themselves changing the sound.

I compared my MDR7506 to my SRH1540, and the sound signature and soundstage difference is very obvious. Later on I'll probably place the 1540 earpads on the 7506 and see how the comparison changes.

From the looks of the manual, EQ adjustments should be fine down to the mid-30's. Given the rolloff slope, that probably means upper-30's extension without *too much* output loss.

>>61773749
If you have no external DAC or amp at the present time, the Fulla 2 is a much better purchase. It'll ensure you're not being screwed by either your internal DAC or amp.
Magni2, uber or not, you can get later if you really want to, and chain to fulla2 fixed dac output.
>>
>>61775315
PortaPros are super light in terms of weight and clamp, pretty cheap and decent sound.
