I was on OiNK, I've been on every single relevant tracker ever, and a whole lot more irrelevant ones. The trackers have plateaued in the last 4 or 5 years, they've stopped trying to innovate and move on. And yes, to an extent the closed garden nature of the top ones has contributed to this in part. Trackers need new users to keep developing and getting better.

The competition to BTN and PTP are shit but that's partly because it's impossible to develop any interest when everyone knows they will never match BTN or PTP as long as BTN or PTP exist. Although I commend TehC for recent efforts, they're not giving up and they are definitely getting better.

Furthermore, the main value in BTN and PTP is not recent releases, but their archive. I've archived everything I want to so I don't have so much use for them any more. Whenever I download a movie or TV series I always check other movie and TV trackers just out of interest and use which ever one ill benefit me most or impact my stats least. I very rarely use BTN or PTP for downloading any more. My standard practice, in fact, is to check HDB and/or SDB first for something, and then download the quality release at another tracker if possible to save on affecting my precious HDB stats.

You could do this on a Raspberry Pi if you wanted. If you forego one cheeseburger per year, you'll have paid for the electricity to power your RasPi seedbox. I don't know how much more power desktops pull, but it can't be _that_ much more.
