Just gonna repost from previous thread.
X230 user here.
I experience a lot of screen tearing on Linux even with Compton enabled. Does anyone know how to get rid of that? I'm using i3wm and MATE
is there an after market 360 hinge for the x220t?
>Blurry dark pic
>No original charger (replacement)
>Clearly the "Unregistered Windows 7" text in the bottom right
My alarm bells are ringing.
but for some reason 4chan was too retarded to post photo
anyways, have any of you found your E N D G A M E ?
Well a higher resolution wouldn't give me more screen real estate at 12" because I'd have to upscale to match the size of 768p anyways and scaling renders Linux unusable currently.
At 12" there's no way how you could get more real estate without making text terribly small. The only thing a higher res would do for you is make the image sharper but with that you're sacrificing Linux compatibility.
It's the same PPI and I'm seriously considering getting one as a second laptop. btw I also own a desktop with 2x1080p screens connected. The X230 is just infinitely more comfy which is why it is my endgame.
The edge of the palmrrest is uncomfortable, as are the keys and touchpad buttons
The 3 function buttons are a joke, I don't get why they removes the volume buttons
The metal case gets dented quite easily
Otherwise pretty good, I like the rubber protector around the screen and the door at the bottom
Are you even trying?
>no multiple hot swap batteries
>no middle button for trackpoint
>HUGE bezel, bigger than a 10 year old t60
>has retarded bumps on palmrest for some idiot reason
On a 12" screen it's practically retina resolution.
Tell me son, what is the ideal viewing distance for such a screen and what is the smallest angle your vision subtend at that distance?
Go back to China, you chink shill.
This brightness notification thing won't go away, Is the only way to make it disappear restarting?
what's teh dankest thinkpod? need more keks in my lyfe
pic relatated, is me in all muh dankness
same here. brightness bar always shows after starting from standby. my fix is to trigger any overlay that appears in the same place. for example when my brightness bar is stuck I press mute so the volume bar appears and makes the brightness bar disappear
possibly picking up an x220 later on, 500gb hdd, 8gb ram. gonna clean it up a bit than throw arch linux and xfce on overnight. send post later when its all said and done.
can anyone rec me a specific cheap battery for my x201 that will get it at least 2 hours battery life? Rn the battery is completely dead, I can only use it plugged in, I just need something that gives me enough time to get through a lecture.
I got a new old stock 9 cell for 70 euros, not that cheap but it gets me through a day of uni. I guess for 2 hours a new old stock 6 cell would be enough.
I wouldn't bother with chink replica's, the one I got arrived completely drained but after using it for a year now it still has 96% of its original capacity.
Should I bother trying to run Path of Exile on my t420 or nah? What settings are recommended, or will my shit just fry itself dead after a while?
By the way.. Can someone tell me what this is? Artifacting, or something? I can't tell what type of graphical conflict this is with Jewtel HD 3000
So I'm finally buying into this meme and getting an x200 because I'm autistic and muh freedoms or whatever, is there anything I should look out for in particular before pulling the trigger and ordering one?
alright guys I found this. It says it is for ibm x201s, but will it work with my lenovo x201?
I've tried replacing the splash screen on my T420, but the utility didn't let me reflash the same (newest) version of the BIOS. Is there any way to replace the splash screen when I'm already on the newest version of the BIOS?
Requesting a bit of help here getting a "new" laptop (used/old would be fine), preferable a thinkpad. Having a hard time browsing and getting a grip on all the thinkpads I can choose from.
Budget: Not more than $400, $350 would be nice though.
Location: USA, New Mexico?
Size: Somewhere around the T series size
Performance: 2.5 GHz dual core processor minimum, 4 GB ram minimum 8 GB preferred (DDR3), and 200 GB HDD storage minimum.
Other requirements: Relatively good battery life, probably 3-5 hours on load if possible. Upgradeable ram and storage. Good wireless card or upgradeable one. Durable. Running "current" indie games like NT and BOI would be nice. Running games like CS:GO would be great. It needs to be able to browse the internet and watch youtube well along with running matlab nicely. An eternet port would be amazing.
just get the cheapest one that doesn't look like shit, ignore cpu/display/ram/drives because they're all replaceable and upgradeable and it has a IPS FHD display option as well
Hi. I wanna buy a t530 and I have some questions.
1 - What the maximum support memory?
I read it was 16gb but in the lenovo site is 32gb.
Is this right?
2 - If I wanna upgrade the screen to 1920x1080 I just have to change the screen or something else?
Is there IPS to t530?
3 - I think this is very stupid question but I'll ask anyway.
Can I change the intel graphics 4000 to something better or only with egpu?
4 - Can I put a i7 7th generation or in a near future the 8th?
RAM depends on the CPU, some of the CPU's support 32GB and some 16GB. Also the T-series only have 2 memory slots, W-series has 4.
3. if you want to swap the motherboard, sure, but the Nvidia graphics weren't that great
4. depends on the CPU socket and chipset (no)
I don't have a T530 so no idea about the first two but no you can change the hd4000 because it's part of the processor, however you can upgrade the processor but only with processors that share the same type of socket.

Thank you for your cooperation,
I got a new job and they want to know what hardware they should order for me. The rest of the office uses either MBPs or Dell Xps 13s for the most part but I am not limited to these. They don't care if I install Linux so I was thinking an x270 with all the options, a dock, and a couple monitors.
Thoughts? Are the new thinkpads awful?
>have to choose between freefag t400 and powerful t430
Fucking shit, if I can't use libreboot there's fucking proprietary blobs in Coreboot. I don't care if it's less than 10kb I might as well just sell all my info and build a gaymen PC with Windows 10 because who the fuck knows what backdoors are in those blobs
Dont talk to me or my wife's son ever again
>the keys cannot impede it.
Im pretty sure my B key does, if I move the cursor upwards or laterally it moves at the same speed in all 3 directions and the nub barely touches the keys, but when I move it down it's clearly touching the B key and it impedes it of going at the same speed. I have a T520 so im using the old non chiclet keyboard.
How is the NVS 5400M on T530/430? Does it overheat badly? Will the solder become brittle over time?
How many mAH are supposed to be in the 9-cell 70++ batteries?
I found this:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/6600mAh-New-Battery-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-w530-L530-T430-T530-70-0A36302-9-cell-/112174413211?hash=item1a1e1db59b:g:L~MAAOSwEupZheR0 and it looks like it's genuine and legit, but it's only 6600mAH.
I've read around online and apparently it's supposed to be 7740mAH like this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-Genuine-Lenovo-ThinkPad-9C-Laptop-Battery-L410-L520-T420-T430-T530-W520-W530-/282011867458?hash=item41a9379942:g:o3MAAOSwKfVXF8S2
If you want to put things to express something on your laptop put a vinyl. A single one. Only one.
Stickerbombing looks like shit without exception, even more if you use the redbubble stickers with white borders.
I believe there is two manufacturers for the batteries, Samsung and Panasonic (or LG, or maybe there's three, I don't know). I think they rate their batteries at different voltages which can affect the mAh rating. But Lenovo holds them to a Wh standard, that being 94 Wh for the 9-cell batteries. Typically a brand new battery should have over 100% of the 94 Wh capacity.
Either way you can get it on Amazon for the same price and it's a lot easier to return items via Amazon.
Is the X220 with 6GB RAM a justified upgrade from my T400 with 3GB RAM? I'll just be using it to code, watch films, listen to music and watch porn at home and essentially the same at work when I'm not busy but without the porn.
only thing you will have with the fake ones is for the 30 or 40 series is it and newer the battery wont work unless its 100% genuine. but for the older models youll just find the battery decays quicker.
example I had genuine 9cell for x220 and after 50 cycles it had lost 3% capacity. i had a chinko 9cell that had lost 11% capacity after 23 cycles.
yepp, get a 9cell battery for it for maximum comfy mode.
>tfw you sit outside with your x220 and 9cell battery for 6 hours straight writing/watching videos without needing to charge it
>newer the battery wont work unless its 100% genuine
well shit time to buy a 9-cell from amazon to a freight forwarding service and then pay them another $100 to receive my battery
What is the best thinkpad that is useable for rendering?
It's for school, basically it needs to meet the following criteria: needs to have a graphics card, needs to be light (<6lbs), needs to be able to use 16 gbs of ram, battery life better than 5 hours, needs to have best keyboard.
I need to use windows 7 so libreboot or gentoo (lol) aren't options and I'm not gonna mess around with virtual machines because I need it to be guaranteed to work.
I was already thinking about getting a t420s with i7 2620m and Nvidia NVS 4200M because I understand there is no upgrading the processors on slim models. And before anyone says anything, I don't care that it has a shitty panel, I'll probably upgrade that later.
I'm quite happy with with my trusty T420, but my sister is shopping for a somewhat rugged new laptop before moving to Lebanon for a year. She sent me urls for some cheapo $200ish netbooks with rubberized case accents she was considering and I figured an X-Series would fit her needs and not be utter shit.
Location: USA, but relocating to Lebanon in a few weeks
Size: Portable/Travel-friendly, probably X-Series
Performance: Usual web browsing, work-related doc editing, and wants to watch "HD movies" (no fucking clue if she downloads BD rips or just streams stuff)
Other requirements: Have to receive it and be fairly certain the battery and charger are reliable within two weeks.
This is more a request for favorable ebay vendors and such that have a good track record. I told her to just get an X220 and order an additional battery and charger at the same time, just in case. Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. And no, I don't have any imouto nudes.
x220 is good anon, I upgraded from an x200, which is somewhat close to T400 in specs. Try to get one with an IPS screen if you can, I upgraded mine and now I have no complains about the x220.
Still, you can always put an SSD, up your RAM to 8GB and stick to the T400. The hardware is good enough for what you are doing today, and you can save some money this way.
Get a W520. You will never get >5 hours on a T420s, especially not with an i7 and NVS. The battery in the slim model is only a 6cell and the individual cells are lower capacity flat cells compared to the round ones used in normal Thinkpads.
It's not really viable to lug around a desktop with me to school but I do use one currently that does just fine. Also, I already have a t510 that I use but it's a little to heavy for me currently and I think I can get a better graphics card and processor in a smaller package which is why I was wondering what your opinion on the t420s was.
So here is my situation. After class I go to the library to work, in class we already have thinkstations that we use so I have that taken care of. When I go to the library there are macs available to use but since they don't have inventor installed and they are shitty old shit that doesn't run anything I need my own to use.
what do you think of the slice? I heard it gives it quite a few more hours and while it's not ideal to have a slim laptop with a massive tumor of a battery at least it isn't permanent.
is there some way to install a FHD panel in a HD+ T520? I'm getting one for ~175€ (which is fucking amazing) in great condition. also, if I coreboot it would I still be able to use the Nvidia NVS4200M under windows 7 if I had to? I pretty much know already that nvidia sucks under linux
found a w541 with a i7, 16gb, ssd, k2100m, 9cell and warranty on ebay last year. dad was selling it for his daughter who 'needed' a mbp. only $800.
i use it daily for autocad and some rendering while at the office. gets a solid 6 hours on battery while doing light tasks.
I probably would go with that but it has the newer keyboard which I don't like. It's fairly petty but having the feel of an original ibm styled keyboard makes feels like it makes working easier.
Fuck with hdd and wiped it but now trying to install mint.iso and it wont read dvd or I cant remember what I did. pls help t420
I've been interested in getting an older PC (could be a laptop), one that runs windows XP, for the sake of having a place to play old vidya, especially for when my nieces and nephews visit. Where would I go about looking for one? It wouldn't be hooked up to any sort of network.
My t61 is arriving in the next few days. It's gonna be my comfy PC for posting when I'm in bed (dw I have a laptop coolerpad + stand which will suit the setup well)
any stuff I should get for it too? Any particular accessories?
It's running windows 7 32 bit which I think I'll keep
does windows xp still work for lots of shit? I've been out of the loop for ages - I really don't seem to like windows 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 or whatever teh fuck.
A thinkpad with xp sounds comfy as fuck to me
I just found out that some of these green trackpoint caps existed but the guy who made them doesn't sell them anymore.
If anyone has one that is in good shape that they would like to part with I will buy one if it is reasonable. Name your price.
If you could link me to a video on how to do that I would love that.
I've thought about it but it sounded out of my league. Is it simple enough? I'm willing to put effort into it.
I don't think about it at all. Anything besides T400-430 is irrelevant.
Okay now you're just baiting
>Home/end where capsloc should be
>That touch row of things that could have dedicated or fn buttons, bad idea before Apple had it
>Backspace and delete sharing a row
>Shift having an indicator light, presumably because it doubles as capsloc somehow
What the fuck am I looking at?
I've jacked off my x60s last night. How bad am I into autism?
Alright, since Raven Ridge Thinkpads are coming out either end of this year or beginning of next I need a temporary laptop while I wait.
I'm deciding between T430, T440 or T450s. I'd like a 1080p screen or 1600x900 at the very least. Don't play video games and don't run demanding tasks (watching videos, listening to music, word processing and ebook reading).
I also don't want it to look like an old piece of shit because there are some qt3.14 in my class and I don't want to look like a poorfag loser in front of them.
I didn't say I want to impress them, I said I didn't want to look like a poorfag, there's a difference. I don't want a thick laptop with the battery sticking out the back and a shit screen.
>I also don't want it to look like an old piece of shit because there are some qt3.14 in my class and I don't want to look like a poorfag loser in front of them.
>having to rely on your laptop to pick up girls
Anon you're gonna die alone anyway with that attitude
dutch is a well constructed logical language actually
not really a majority speaks english and if they dont they are considered to be retarded. you learn english at the age of 10/11 or I did atleast
girls are sluts man they dont care if youre english or dutch if they want sex theyd go for it
actually why do you say the people are retarded?
Hi /tpg/ , i am in need of some help.
I currently have a acer e3-111, very nice laptop, light a reasonably powerfull for it size and can run almost any linux distro that i throw in it. But, i dont like taking it to college with me, as i live in a 3th world hellhole and fear getting robbed in the way to college, and it will be almost impossible replacing it, because there is none in the new or used market. So, i am thinking getting a t42(i am a poorfag with other priorities for my money) for light use, mostly getting word like jobs done and occasionally a slide presentation. I would put the max 2gb of ram and a 60gb ssd, ditch the w7 that it comes with and put a light linux distro, just so i dont push the pentium M to the limit too often.
The offers in my country, for a used one with mediocre hdd and ram, or none of those at all, rovers around 80$ to 120$, and getting a t410( that is the next, 40$ more expensive thinkpad model available) is out of question either for cash or size.
Ps:i didnt search for it, but, is there a dockstation for it or that exist only for newer models?
Hi /tpg/, I'm planning to upgrade my current T500 to a T520.
Will my T500's RAM be usable in a T520? After some search I found out T500's RAM runs at 1.5V but I'm not sure whether T520's RAM runs at 1.5v or 1.35v.
If a thinkpad has a BIOS password and you know the BIOS password, can you remove the password somewhere in the settings?
If not, do you need the password every time you want to install a new OS?
What does the password even stop you doing?
Alright you convinced me to pull the trigger on an eBay refurb.
Now, do I go T420 or T430? They're almost the same price.
I don't like the look of the shitty chiclet keyboard with the T430 but reviewers say its not so bad? The layout looks shit too though...
>if temps are shit replace thermal paste
>consider upgrading ram and/or HDD to SSD if applicable
idk that's the usual, pretty easy stuff to do immediately after getting a Thinkpad. Enjoy anon.
These are the requirements for the most recent game...a T43 could fucking play it
I have a 7-$800 budget for a laptop to go to college.
I occasionally play games (nothing too hardware demanding) but I also have a console so I don't need modern gaming-tier specs.
Obviously I need something to do regular college work on, as well as something that can let me torrent and hoard tons of animu/tokusatsu/whatever.
Will a T550 work fine?
Ok so I left my T420 on and plugged in on my desk before I went to work so I could download some shit while I was at work, and I won't be home for several hours
I'm really worried that my laptop is going to overheat and catch fire while I'm not at home, should I be concerned or am I worrying too much? Has anyone had experiences with their laptops catching fire?
Does anyone know if its damaging the battery, if i power an external keyboard and a mouse from my laptop, because it sucks more current than normal.
Its a lithium-polymer battery.
Should I just plug the power cable in, even if its fully charged?
Not a thinkpad, but what's /g/'s opinion in the Lenovo 510?
I've heard there's some problems with the display involving dead pixels / light bleeding, on top of it sort of being a nu-Lenovo laptop (not comfy keyboard) but it looks pretty good for the price
anyone have a WWAN card and use it? My X230 has one and I can't seem to get the GPS to work, only tested with Windows 10 and Windows Maps thing
the wireless settings just says "insert SIM", some sources say you need a SIM card (don't need to activate it) for the GPS to work and others say you don't need a SIM card
and what other software can I use a GPS for?
I wanted to get one but seemed somewhat redundant in the current year where every phone can do tethering.
Of course, you should be idling at around 45c and 50~55c if you have the fan turned off.
>Of course, you should be idling at around 45c and 50~55c if you have the fan turned off.
Thanks. Wonder if my fan is even working.
Ill order some paste. Hopefully I havent damaged the CPU too much
The fan turned off is merely an autism thing to achieve a silent memepad with an ssd and no fan, i do it with my t420 when temps are below 60c.
Also aside from repasting remember to remove and disassemble the cpu fan to clean it, the fan might be cluttered with shit inside.
X200 tablet and T430 owner reporting in.
>what do you do with the x200t?
I just use it as a normal laptop most of the time, for productivity and very light gaming (webm related). The tablet function got a lot of use in university, and I still occasionally use it as a tablet. I also take it with me if I'm travelling. The T430 is a relatively new addition, but I intend to keep it as a desktop replacement, so it stays put.
I put my dick on the keyboard and then slam the lid down full force repeatedly. Of course I do this to test if the blood will flow out the bottom properly without damaging any components. To be absolutely sure I repeat that every other day.
Now what about the lady behind him with the soul crushing gaze? Also, you wouldn't happen to know anything about X series RAM slots, would you?
I just took delivery of an L460 yesterday.
Had a T420 in the past and an X240 that crapped out on me. Apparently something to do with a weakness in the chassis that caused the motherboard to bend if you picked it up the wrong way. Couldn't do much about it because I bought it from a random man on the internet.
I was surviving on a diet of desktop, iPad and phone for about two months before I got around to ordering this one.
>that warm happy feeling once my fingers touched the keyboard
>decent screen, IPS and finally no more 1366 for me
>little bit bulky
>plastic isn't great, very obvious downgrade from T/X, but I'll probably survive
Guys, where can I get a x270 with american keyboard in Europe?
How is this for a T430 upgrade?
What's the best place to get a replacement battery for a T400?
Mine no longer holds a charge. I only use it to shitpost from bed so it wouldn't be a huge deal but the battery icon flashes orange all the time and it is making me sperg out.
wrong size dude. this is the right one https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-HX316LS9IBK2-16/dp/B00KQCOV5C/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502079398&sr=1-5&keywords=sodimm+ddr3
>get ready to go to sleep
>put my X260 (bought it 2 weeks ago) on my desk and plug it in to charge
>trip on the wire
>it flies halfway across the room
>check it, only the plastic around the screen is a bit fucked
>Pop it back in
>As good as new
Should I worry about anything not working? It has an SSD. Also it fell flat on the bottom.
