What are the disadvantages of a hard drive with helium compared to air?
>>61747028
The rotational velocidensity is reduced afaik
>>61747028
less air friction = manufacturer able to squeeze more platters into there, increasing effective storage space
also this >>61747068
reducing rotational velocidensity has a nice impact on the music you store on the drive.
You're computer will be slightly easier to lift.
>>61747028
>>61747088
fuck I read "advantages"
there's no disadvantages as long as the drive is tight.
and be sure to secure it to the floor in case the wind blows because it'll fly away.
>>61747125
Isn't it a disadvantage with more platters?
hybrid cached helium drives when?
>>61747130
for a datacenter which wants to squeeze as much data into the smallest possible area? I'd say it's an advantage.
I don't think there's any substantial failure rate increase compared to normal drives.
>>61747028
it's lighter
it's funnier
no seriously. less friction means less heat, less wear, greater longevity for both the heads and the platters.
>>61747130
more platters = more data. the main concern is vibrations, which helium also reduces.
the only disadvantage I can think of is what happens when or if the helium leaks out or drops below a certain pressure/proportion.
yes, gases do leak even in sealed metal containers. it's negligible, but measurable (look up gas permeation through metals)
I guess only time will tell (just like only time told us perpendicular magnetic recording or giant magnetoresistive heads are reliable)
>>61747028
All your audio will be in higher pitch.
>>61747701
More platters = More failures
Why are you ignoring this fact?
>>61747028
If you forget to lock your window, it can dissapear up into the air
ffs didn't you have a baloon as a kid?

Kill yourself autist.
>>61747125
Really tooted my horn there buddy.
more screws to hold it in place :(
>>61747701
>it's funnier
Fucking stupid ass joke anon
Made me laugh, thanks
