Stop me of getting an Anne Pro and convice me to going with tada68.
The idea of a common layout, pbt, gateron browns and bluetooth for that price makes me hard.
>>
>>61741675
>Ann/Anne Pro
No programming.
Bluetooth connection can be dodgy.
Plastic case.
From people in my local mech board group: Supposedly worse keycaps than Poker Pro or 3? I have no idea.
>Tada68
1.0u modifiers on the bottom right.
1.75u right Shift.
Plastic case (but possible to upgrade to alu)

I love wireless shit so much I have a wireless trackball mouse and
a pair of AirPods
, and I still don't think wireless mech keyboard is there yet.

Your dye-sub PBT is shit compared to my dye-sub PBT with an actual profile.
>>
I'm currently using Chinese Topre clones, give me a good reason why I shouldn't buy a real Topre board.

It's smoother and more refined than any MX or Alps board I've tried.
>>
>>61741908
yes it is crappy through the app
>>
What would be the cheapest way to get a white PBT spacebar with cherry profile?

I got an NPKC gradient set and the spacebar is fugged.
I'm using a white OEM spacebar at the moment and like the look of it more than the gradient one

they just feel better than titties do when you press on them
>>
>>61743905
>just 4mm of travel
You must have pressed very flat titties.
>>
>TKL realforce
>HHKB

I'm undecided between the two.
On the one hand, I like the HHKB for its meme status and aesthetic.
On the other hand the real force seems heavier on the desk, have easier access to function keys. Plus its layout being more conventional, I guess it will make typing one someone else's computer less awkward. (the white and gray version is also muh early 2000s aesthetic tier tho)

Even though I like the JIS "layout" better, with the @ available without any modifiers, I'll get the US version since I hate the small space bar even more.
>>
>>61743678
Placebo effect.
Similar to audiofools.

Okey, to be fair, the fact that Topre doesn't need to bottom out cause the capacitive spring makes it a nice rubber dome keyboard.
But it's still a rubber dome. Still suffers of the degradation that rubber suffers when its stretched lots of times. And also, his obscenely high price tag probably (read it as "it does") adds to the effect of the "best keyboard in the world"
For what offers, Topre are too much costly, and they arent that tactile compared with a buckling spring or a gateron brown keyboard.
If you want the layout, I prefer the clone that KBfans builds.

Good starter board I guess. Though I'd say you could have paid a bit more to get sth with a bit more bangs for your bucks.

Both Kalih & Outemu switches are a bit ... arguable. Unlike Gateron which already earns their names, so few outside-of-China people buy those other 2 switches to gather enough opinions. Some love them, some hate them.

It's called /dev/tty, and like the other anon said, it's kinda like an SA clone, but in a profile that's actually usable called MT3 (custom profile made by the creator). I got it because it's actually made of PBT and it seems like something I'll actually use instead of take pictures of, like what the rest of Reddit does with their SA kits.

>Romer-G

You obviously haven't tried many different boards then. Romer-G switches are horrible and come with a lot of issues, including not being able to switch out the crappy ABS keycaps, and keychatter from the dual leaf contacts.

Anything is better than Logitech shit. If you really like that type of switch, you should get something with Gateron Browns. Get Cherry Browns if you can't find a good Gateron Brown board.

If you want a gayming keyboard then get a Cooler Master with PBT keycaps instead. You can also get a Ducky One since that also has double shot or dye-sub PBT. But my personal favorite so far is the Leopold 980m. Even though it has laser printed PBT keycaps I prefer the layout.

If you want a modern Model M with custom layout/parts/chassis straight outta the factory then Unicomp.

Otherwise stick with the original Model M if you really care about build quality and don't need win/menu keys.

Some keycaps may come in different dimensions, most notably the spacebar, but most keys have standard dimensions; what you want to account for the most is the switch on which the keycap will be mounted.
>>
>>61753231
To clarify what the other anon said, if it's cherry or a cherry clone then 90% of keycaps will fit (as long as the sizes are correct). If you have alps/matias or topre, you'll need completely different ones.
>>

Way less gay than that. I was thinking about buying the CM Masterkeys Pro M, and giving it a half decent set of caps, possibly PBT (I don't care about retroillumination: I'd keep it off anyway), however I'd have to print the legends on both the front and the top of the keycaps.

No. Their switches are smooth but their mfg tolerances are lower than Cherry's and this becomes a problem with the two-part stems in blues/greens. Result is they're inconsistent and even louder/higher pitched.

All the good full-sized keyboards with cherry mx switches that I'm aware of in the $100 price-range are red-backlit and you won't find any RGB keyboards in that price-range either.

There's some RGB keyboards in the $40-50 price-range with cherry MX clones on Aliexpress. The quality on these may not be the best, some are happy with these and some write in the feedback that their keyboard died within months.

I've actually ordered a Elephone $40 RGB keyboard with cherry mx blue clones from China - which was kind of an impulse buy - and it'll be fun to see exactly how a keyboard compares to a $200 keyboard.

>>61765213
You'll have to judge if Cherry MX Brown switches are totally awesome or bad yourself.

My personal first choice is Cherry MX Blue because I do like the click click click loud sound it makes. I also have a Cherry MX Brown keyboard which I use unless I'm alone in my apartment. It's not that different from Blue's, the actuation point on the switches is slightly higher and it doesn't make any sound. I have o-rings on mine so the board with browns is very quiet.

What you should do is to go to computer stores and electronics stores until you find one which has a keyboard with brown switches on display, preferably connected to a computer - but you'll get a feel for it just by typing a bit on it even if it's not. There really isn't any other way you can find out if you like brown switches or not.

The patents expired years ago. The problem with capacitive buckling springs however is the cost since almost everything has to made from metal. You could use a plastic case, but that doesn't really cut down costs by a lot, maybe 50 bucks

Every switch has metal contacts, every switch has a spring. What's the difference with capacitive?
>>

>>
>>61770234
You can say the same thing about his keyboard purchases.
>>
>>61769838
No, but I've given up anyway.

My idea was just reworking the lever shape and make it work by giving it a metal contact that would close the circuit inside the switch (in this way you don't have a membrane, and you don't need a shitload of metal for all the capacitors), and encapsulate the whole system in a convenient shell, which is easier said than done, especially if you don't have any measurement (lenght and thickness of ALL the parts, especially the spring and the lever in the BS switch) of any of the switches.

Moreover at the end of the day what matters the most is the force-travel profile, and what sets buckling springs apart from other switches is the fact that between peak force and actuation there is no further travel, and after peak the force has a vertical drop. Point is that you might just engineer a new system that behaves this way instead of re-engineering an older system.

Careful, posting a big bezel triggers people around here.
It does look cool though.

Was gonna upgrade my Cherry MX Board 3 (reds) for a Poker 3 RGB (blues). Is there any better 60% keyboard in the price range of the Poker 3 (£130) with a UK layout or am I pretty stumped for choice?

>cut down hard on usable keys to save desk space

Thoses keycaps are lit
>>

It's fucking useless and counterproductive. Hypocritical even. I mean look at this thing: >>61770909
It's practically still a floating key design with the caps above the top of the bezel and the it doesn't even serve the purpose of protecting the keys.
>>
>>61771045
The person who owns it probably thinks it looks good.
Half of this fucking hobby is about aesthetics and personal preference.
Stop being so assblasted about that.

>>
>>61771155
yes, it's pretty good
bought it on Ali, pretty cheap
>>
>>61771210
Yes. It's smoother and the Gat browns have a slightly bigger bump on the ramp than Cherries do so it's slightly more tactile.
