>arguing over response curves

From Mr. Speakers Dan Clark:

"There's not really a "target response curve" for headphones like you get for loudspeakers (which are challenging enough). There are lots of reasons for this, including that compensation curves like diffuse field, were designed for measuring speakers, not headphones, and while the "compensate" they don't make a flat-sounding headphone measure flat.
Further, if you think of the ear-cavity in an ear pad as the "room", every headphone creates its own set of near-field interactions with the measurement system, and that will not be the same as the interactions they create with each users's ears because the "room" geometry can vary. There are flat ears, "cupped" ears, big ears, small ears, etc, and if you change the "ear" on a test fixture the results change. I suspect this relates to the fact that people can have fairly different responses to a specific headphone or tuning, but there's not any real research around this I'm aware of."

I didn't say price was a factor, I said you haven't tried anything more expensive because you can't afford them. There are better sounding headphones that happen to be more expensive. They don't sound better because they are more expensive, they sound better because they actually sound better.

Oh, right, I get what you were saying now. Yeah, green is usually line-out. But yeah, you're going to want to plug it into the back, NOT the front output. Front outputs are usually noisier.
If plugging the Magni into the back green jack produces a noisy result you'll need to get that Sabre DAC and use that instead of the green line out.

Fulla2 or Magni2+Modi2? Or sell me on something else?

Never had an amp before and interested, driving a DT770 Pro and HD 650. I have no doubt the Fulla2 would be fine, but I wouldn't mind spending $200 and wondering if the stack is worth it. It would probably make me less likely to think about pointless upgrades later, if nothing else.

>>61739811
The logical decision here is to buy a Fulla 2 first and try the headphones with it. If they're both loud enough for you, great. You're done. If not, then buy a Magni 2 and use the Fulla 2 as just a DAC.

>>61739893
>not really being able to try them out beforehand the Schiit is just the gut feeling choice for me
They're both solid-state amps, what are you even expecting from it besides increasing the volume? Don't fall for audiophile magic bullshit.

The bigger impact to your music quality will be the quality of the volume pot on either one. They are really prone to channel imbalance at low volumes.
>>
Is there any USB to 1/4 adapters? To be specific USB 2/3.0 input on one side and 1/4 output on the other
>>
>>61739972

>>
>>61739974

Oh. If you're asking if there's a way to use USB headphones through a 1/4" output, no, there is not. I thought you were asking for the other way around: powering headphones with a 1/4" jack via USB.

Hey /g/ what are a good pair of isolation headphones to block out noise. I have some open back Sennheisers use for at home listening but they're not very good for flying on planes or noisy situations (obviously). I'm cool with Buds (In-Ear-Monitors) or over-the-ear cans as they won't be my primary go-to option. I'd like to keep the price under $100.

I've been looking at these. Can anyone vouch for them?

probably not. dacs and amps are extremely overshilled in /hpg/

you may benefit from an external dac if you can hear background noise. you may benefit from an amp if you can't get the volume high enough for the types of listening you do.

Last call hoping for anyone who has Rock Zircon's, Soundmagic E10's, the Newer Piston Hybrid's or the KZ KS5's

Just after some opinions on them really, leaning towards the Pistons. Price isn't an issue
>>
>>61742835
>How about the ATH-M40 X?
Good. Balanced sound, detach cable, portable, cheap. Comfort is average. pads can be replaced easily, but it's not totally necessary. Status CB-1 is also an option, but has worse build quality. SHP9500 or HD558 for open headphones

If you can wait, the zs5s are incredible for the money. V-shaped but not extremely, mids are clear. Best bass out of the 3. The sound magic e10s are mid-centric but bass is there, highs are a bit rolled off. Pistons are in the same boat, but less rolled off highs

IEMs with earmuffs on top. Basically equivalent to earplugs + earmuffs hearing protection in extremely noisy work environments.

it's what I use to listen to music while mowing the grass, and you'll be practically deaf to everything else (which may or may not be a good thing in an emergency)
>>
>>61744643
Thanks for the recommendation.
I do mind waiting, which is a shame because I've had the KZ's recommended a few times. I'm not sure I really like their over ear style either, or the way they sort of fit in the whole either rather than a standard earphone.

Are the ZS5's really much better? As in a significant difference?
I might go for the Hybrid's, and if they're underwhelming just order the KZ's. I could order both, but don't want to end up with a stupid amount of earphones I don't use. It's just a shame I can't find a place that can promptly deliver the KZ's. If they were on Amazon I'd have just ordered both

will closed back headphones drown out the sound of my room fan enough to listen to things at a quieter level? as it stands i feel like i'm doing damage to my ears having to put sounds up to compete with the sound of my fan. so the options i have right now are to buy a pair of dt770s, and possibly ath-msr7 but likely the dts, or buying a quiet room fan and semi open headphones, whats the better route?

Maybe not appropriate for the thread but I recently got a pair of Sony XB70BT Bluetooth Earphones for on-the-go after my phone's headphone jack somehow ruined from the inside. They're actually really great but they're either too quiet or too loud. Is there a preferred app to use that can change the "volume step" of the phone, even if it's root required?
>>
>>61745201
I'm in the UK, they're on Amazon here too but the delivery time ranges from 15 August to September, which is not preferred. The annoying thing is I've been sitting around for a month before getting off my arse and ordering a pair, but I sort of need them now.

The ZS5's are that much better then? I guess I can rule out the Rock Zircon's which is a good start. And if you say the Soundmagic are pretty much in the same boat as the newer Piston Hybrid's, I might as well go for the latter since they're cheaper. Bit of a shame

Hey there lads! I own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 OHMs as my main headphones (use on less mobile machines, home computers, entertainment systems, musical systems, etc.) However I'm looking for something smaller, lighter, and easier for ~50USD to use on the go and with my phone. While quality of all sorts is desired, I'm not as invested in it being really amazing.

Comfort has been a major issue with me in the past wearing any sort of earbuds, IEMs, or on-ear headphones. Large over-ears have been the major saving grace to this. My ears would otherwise get sore quickly. I remember many years ago I had some SOL Republics that were /alright/ at the time. Only actual issue I had with them was build quality, they would die every 6 months and need to be replaced.

Ideal selling points for potential purchase:

- High comfort
- Decent Quality
- Neutral/ not overly bass heavy soundstage
- Durable
- Easy to use while exercising with high mobility, quick turns, etc. (read. inline skating/ running)
- ~50 USD

Regarding price, I'm not extremely worried about going slightly above, or even below, dependent on the item in question. If it's 60, but worth it, fine. If it's 30, and fits my criteria, fine.

Anyway, suggestions appreciated. Thanks!
>>
>>61745331
It's the fact they have a detachable cable (unheard of at that price range) and that the sq hits well above the price. That being said, the sound magic and xiaomi pistons are certainly good headphones too

Why is it so hard to find headphones around $300-$500 that have
- Detachable cables
- Easily replaceable earpads, so avoid earpads that are fucking glued on (i.e. M1060) or hard to find replacements for (AKG K7xx series)
- Durable build quality so no dumb elastic that wears our or wood and plastic parts that crack

I've looked into the Shure SRH1840 and SRH1540 but they apparently suck because of distortion so fuck, is there an equivalent of those headphones in terms of build quality? Do I have to increase my budget?

I'm also interested in the zs5's, but I don't like the cable syle that goes around your ear. If I bought them I would buy the silver cable to go with it just for the looks, but that has the gay bit that wraps around your ear too. Are they comfortable to wear? are they decent for running?

Under 100. They'd be for casual listening and sometimes gaming, I'm new to this don't consider myself an audiophile as I've only had cheap stuff. Almost bought the V6 but I'm worried about the treble killing me (as I've heard some say), I'm not sure if that's something that can be addressed with the EQ on my phone or laptop. I guess I'm looking for more warm/bass oriented.

if you mean the DT1770 as maybe a competitor to the SRH1540, it also has distortion never mind the weird dips and peaks in FR. SRH1540 is cheaper (better value since it's made in china) as well so why bother with the DT1770?

I am a house waifu in training /g/, and I love wearing my headset and doing chores, listening to music or audio books from my pc. I know they make wireless headphones, but I want to have one that does it all; chat and listen. I don't need exceptional audio quality or exceptional mic. I tend to use the PX3 turtle beach, I dont know what it is about it, but i can go very far from the source and still get audio, even to around the outside of the home, garage, upstairs and downstairs, It will cover a whole small apartment with ease. But these headsets are out of print and the refurbished ones are starting to last less and less as the housing tears from wear and travel.

Does anyone else have some advice for wireless headsets that have great distance? Google fu seems worthless in this regard. People are more concerned about their audio settings and the quality of the frequency in high wifi environments.

Let me know what you've bought and if you have any advice.

My V6 pads have started to tear after years of heavy use. What's the best replacements? Is velour really worth it?

Can somebody recommend me a good portable media player? I've already taken care of my headphone needs, but am sick of using my phone for everything. I don't really want to go over ~$100-200, need FLAC support, and would strongly prefer SD/microSD support.

Velour is bretty comfy

Velour changes the sound, and not for the better. I would recommend https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/888545-REG/Auray_eps_mdr7506_Genuine_Sheepskin_Leather_Earpads.html as they won't change the sound nearly as much.

Shanling m2s. MicroSD up to 256, also functions as a Bluetooth receiver in a pinch, as well as a portable DAC/amp that has just enough power for HD600s.

I guess we'll have to use that after we've hit the bump limit

Why the fuck are there two threads?

Some retard made one like 250 posts in and eventually everyone moved over there without finishing this one first for some reason.

Neither is totally correct.
Headphones do not interact with the ear exactly as a diffuse field.
Although the sound field is not quite diffuse, the person has no ability to really "hear" the sound of their own ear.

I've seen a "at least 10:1" rule, which is at least contradictory to this 8:1 thing.

What headphones are good for fps like cs / overwatch. Or just games in general. I see a lot of people reccomend Sennheiser 598s. Thinking of pairing them with a blue yeti aswell.
>>
>>61758160
Any headphones that do not suck overall and do not color the sound too much.
I suggest HD579. They're cheap, and a significant improvement over the HD598.
